This reminds me of my own dad who did the same thing a few times but it was five years instead. It very sad and I tried explaining this to him for years. I gave up telling him this.

Well, my dad was emotionally abusive to me and my brother. He believed that women in the US are pretty much money driven and women outside America are more family valued. Not to mention his narcissistic tendency to build a relationship in his head that will make others jealous. This wasn't just those 5 years he pretty much isolated himself not really building any relationship or friendship with anyone. Pretty much all of my teen years and most of adult life he has only sat behind a computer chatting with women and sending money to them.

I don't know if it's a Slavic thing or a European thing, but we buy an even number of flowers only when mourning. For a funeral, for people who lost someone, etc. If you love someone, or you're giving someone flowers for their birthday etc., you always buy an odd number of flowers. Giving someone an even number of flowers for a happy occasion might be taken as an insult.
