@@haiphengar627 It's a middle school level book in America, it was required reading for my middle school's 7th or 8th grade. The movie adaptation was a Disney movie in the 2000s, so it's not like a super well-known movie in that sea of kid movies around that time.

Fun fact: Jojo’s Part 6 makes a Holes reference, a character has a near identical backstory to the protagonist of Holes- he catches shoes after walking underneath a bridge and then gets arrested, prosecuted and sent to jail/juvie because those shoes were supposed to be a donation by a rich person to an orphanage and they think he stole it.

Dude, Holes is great! Maybe it's cause they didn't grow up in America (or maybe it was just my area) but Holes was a movie just about everyone in my school watched and talked about. It felt like it was still enjoyed years after release. Still love watching till this day

I watched the HOLES too many to count, I have a DVD of it and always watched it as a kid and understood more things as I grew up. I really love the 00s audio and its effects the shovel noise the sound of touches and close up of different things in the movie. For me it is a timeless classic.
I would always watch it with the cast commentary :)

I really like Horimiya. Its easily one of my favourite romance animes and has a really solid set of characters, interesting stories and developments between the characters and a solid premise.
i really liked it too! It was just a warm comforting show to watch. I get it if it's not some peoples thing cause they like high-paced action or a lot of drama or something, but shows like Horimiya definitely have their audience
I think Joey was mostly talking about the manga for it, in the manga there were like 60 to 70 side characters chapters which got kinda boring after a while plus nothing much really happened in them. Imo the anime made it so that it didn't drag on too long but still kept most, if not all, of the good parts in it.

While I certainly do understand where you’re coming from, personally I absolutely adored Horimiya. I can see how it can feel boring to some people, but that pure, wholesome slice of life was just amazing for me. I do like shonen anime, but that kind of just slice of life and romance just works for me and it’s my favorite genre of anime. I really liked how they made hori and miyamura actually feel like normal teenagers and how they were able to get together without having to go through a season’s worth of chase fluff. I liked how they integrated their relationship as a part of their characters and their interactions without out feeling unnatural and it focused on a part of the relationship beyond just the chase that so few anime represent. It’s probably also why some of my favorite animanga series are Horimiya, Wotakoi, and even Love is War to an extent, because they are more than just the chase and also they are just a wholesome fun time. I can appreciate and enjoy high stakes and fast paced action as well as heart wrenching dramas and everything in between, but this kind of just slice of life is definitely my favorite.

I did not expect to like this episode as much as I did. One of the best. Emirichu chemistry with the boys and her laughing when they are roasting her are so funny.
I've watched more films this year than I had in any other year of my life by far. I wasn't a movie buff, but now I think that's the path I'm going down.
Holes was one of the first books I read when I was studying English, so it holds a special place in my heart.
If you want classic, Emily needs to watch the animated Hobbit.
The M4 Hobbit fan edit of the trilogy is pretty great! The guy condensed the trilogy into a superbly edited single film. I highly recommend it!

3:43 Lol, that's totally me. When I was a teen I watched horror movies and they didn't scare me or gross me out but now as an adult I get more easily scared, I'm more sensitive XD.
I ran across too many cannibal horror movies as a teen so now i can't stand that particular type of horror movie. (Tokyo ghoul,claymore, and kurozakuro, are ok though)

Fun fact: I remember when Holes came out in 2003 I heard that alot of people said the movie was just okay and said the book was way better now everyone in the comments is saying that the movie is a classic
19 years later, so it just shows you how overtime things that people thought was just okay when it came out becomes amazing many years later for whatever reason, and just to say I'm not being a hater I'm just saying for anyone who is interested in knowing about this movie.

it's official, none of the 3 boys have any cultured taste in romance anime. I'd even say that Emirichu is a self proclaimed romance fan who thinks she knows the difference between good & bad anime, but she doesn't really. it's perfectly fine though, this is why you don't come to Trash Taste for romance anime recommendations in the first place. it's not a strength of theirs so it's unsurprising that they don't have the knowledge of the topic.

Ngl for Toradora I forgot the character names, however I do remember I did not like those two love interest and thought that the blue haired one was honestly the better character out of the five in my case due to the that nothing she says or does seems fake, unlike the red haired one.

I think Horimiya differs from the rest by its storytelling nature; most romance stuff has only 1 lead but interestingly horimiya has 4; each is a representation of a different type of 'love' this includes the familiar bonds as well.
in this way horimiya has a different flavor.

@@OnyayTheOneCurryGoat it's ok, most of the seasonal anime has a particular pattern and when an anime doesn't follow that that alone causes people to get bored. When you binge the anime this is not a problem but in weekly schedule you can fail to see the real premise of the show.
