    • @CrimsonCharan
      @CrimsonCharan Před rokem +85

      Unfortunately for her, she can't. Their favorites are either too obscure/niche for her to have watched, too popular and well-acclaimed for her to roast without getting roasted herself, or way too degenerative to effectively do so. For example,
      Joey likes Serial Experiments Lain, Bakemonogatari, and Mononoke. Fat chance of her having actually watched any of them. They also aren't her shows of choice, so who knows if she will ever watch them.
      Garnt likes Domestic Girlfriend, Oreimo, and Eromanga Sensei. Trashy shows, yes. But he is aware of that, and likes them anyway despite it, or because of it. So, roasting him won't do much good.
      Connor likes Hunter x Hunter, Jojo, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, etc. You roast those shows, you're basically getting a death sentence.
      So yeah, anyway you look at it, Emily is shit outta luck.

It's got worse and worse when every new season was just boss fights. Now season 4 is out and I just couldn't care less. It's boring and all the fun is gone because literally the entire season, bar about 2 episodes, is pure boss battle. Of course you "can" do character work in fight scenes, but only certain kinds of character work can be done there. They demonstrated this by how much of the fourth season was stupid flashbacks lol. I think the main issue with them trying to get Emily into anime is that they're recommending shows based on their taste instead of her taste. Even though she was talking about how much she didn't care for fight scenes or gore, they keep trying to recommend shows that are 80-90% fighting with a few exceptions here and there, but most of them are centred around things that appeal to shonen fans more than shojo fans (which seems to be Emily's case), so it's not wonder they were having such a hard time with it. Maybe it's due to the fact that the boys rarely watch shows that are in her wheelhouse, so it was quite difficult to relate to her taste and give recommendations based on those tastes.
    What I would've recommended Emily: Gintama, Tonikaku Kawaii, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Non Non Biyori etc.

      I kinda get what emily is trying to say I mean after seeing action animes for so many times you just get tired of all the actions because it can be quite stressing to watch from all the dangerous situations and possibility of the characters not making out alive since you are invested in it so it was a breath of fresh air when you watch slice of life animes because of just the everyday life interactions and stories you can relate.
      Anyways, Emily might also like the disastrous life of saiki. It’s a goofy anime and all of saiki’s interactions with the other characters are funny. There is also the amazing world of gumball, it’s a cartoon but it’s a funny series.

    • @jm8837

      I'm like her from time to time. I got riled up a lot when I'm watching shonen, they hype me to the point of tears, makes me sad and depressed, and just overall exhaust me especially if it's a really long arc and I still need to go through a lot of stress just to reach a conclusion just like how every major arcs in One Piece are (still love one piece tho and would probably rewatch it again). But sometimes I get break from shonen from watching slice of life anime or just rom com. I don't like drama too much because it gives me stress too. I totally get her and how she just wants just random shenanigans and not focusing too much on the show and still being able to enjoy it because sometimes some show just info dump you in the face. I really love AOT but in every episode I really have to use my brain just to understand what's going on so it exhaust me too and it gives me too much adrenaline that I'm shaking with my body sometimes so I hope no one judges Emily so harshly because damn I've been there everytime a shonen anime tires me out, it's a comfort zone. Also would like to mention Daily Life of a highschool boys and baka to test, not really sure if they are shounen but those are good shows that I think she can enjoy.

    I totally agree with her, the slower paced scenes are what build the characters and make you care about them, and without those I don’t care at all about a fight. Like, I’m gonna be bored watching an epic battle if I don’t know and relate to the character first, and understand what the point of the battle is for them.

  • @chi5209
    @chi5209 Před rokem +51

    Okay, so basically Emi prefers character driven stories where the stakes are centered around the characters and their relationships with each other instead of some great external threat. Fruits Basket is deceptive in it's initial cutesiness but while it's dramatic, it's grounded. There's no grand battles against otherworldly beings, it's a story about making growing up and how you actually need to make healthy connections with others to gain the independence to break from cycles of abuse. In Madoka Magica sure, the world might end, and there's battles against witches but the story isn't centered on the end of the world. It's centered on Madoka, her internal conflict between becoming a magical girl, and not wanting her idyllic life with her friends and family to change, and how the people around her (mostly Homura and Sayaka) influence that internal conflict. Spy x Family has the constantly underlying political tension and threat of war, but the reason we care about this is because amidst the tension an unlikely family that begins to genuinely care for each other starts to form. I understand where she's coming from...why should I care about the end of a fictional world if I don't care about the people who live in it?

    I know it's "trash taste" and the boys' taste are "officially not better" But.. I dunno. This segment got me really frustrated and pissed off... It was the same feeling what I felt back at Meilyn's 3x3 ... Let girl fans love their shojo/josei/reverseharem/whatelse shows without being judged. Let them have trash tase similarly to others without them feeling bad about it. Let them enjoy characters that they can relate to. (Shit, don't tell me the guys' favourite shows and characters are not their power fantasies of themselves -.-)
    And I know they are good friends and this is just for fun and a good crack, but... I really tried to defend the boys but I just couldn't. Sorry, it was borderline bullying for me. Same with Meilyn and I listened to that part multiple times as well, just to find something that I could use to justify their behaviors.
    I still love these "degenerates", their videos and their podcast. This issue is just something I wanted to voice out.
    I also know, it could come from the whole notion of "teenage girls' interest is always something to laugh at and to mock of", moreover they mention series that are universally declared god tier, but I didn't like or get into them as well, and I know I wouldn't get into them ever (even if it's on paper has elements that i like in a show)
    Heck, Emily's whole childhood crushes series are much better than this discussion. Erold and Daidus were mocking her but it was in much more gentle way. And it was back and forth. I love that video and the extended one as well. It radiates so much more joy and fun. That was a nice banter, this is not.
    Again, I love the boys, but when you have this big audience (which is niceee) and this many followers... Then even if you say and hide behind that "yeah but I like trash, and I have trash taste" the meaning will change... It will become "good" trash, something that you might being goodheartedly mocked off. But when it comes to other shows and other people mocking and stating their trash taste is much harsher. The stigma did not disappeare, only the context changes it. In tash taste community it loses its original meaning. Yet, I say it only applies to the boys and guests who has similar taste.

      I have a lot of criticisms towards MHA but one of my biggest ones is the fact that, despite the series almost bring over, and we’ve literally barely spent any actual time with Class 1-A just hanging out
      They’re LITERALLY the main class???
      Unless you’re the main cast, you’re pretty much gonna get sidelined. and even then, We don’t really see much of the main 3 hanging out in their leisure too.
      Its honestly an issue i have with golden wind too tbh.
      Part 3 isn’t that good either and most of the main cast is underdeveloped and goes on for way too long. But the giant plus-side of that length is that we get to spend WAY more time with them and actually GET to see them in their downtime a bit more. Even if they’re not written great, you still build a connection with them by just being around them.
      Something I honestly can’t say for part 5 characters that aren’t mista or narancia (or the majority of mha characters tbh)
      And this is coming from someone who might genuinely like mha AND part 5 over part 3. 💀
      I’m with emily
      Its like a lot of the folks behind modern shonen anime saw the huge negatives that came with the filler of the older shonen (bleach, dragonball, naruto etc) and instead of finding a middle ground, they just dramatically went in the other direction and often cut content from the manga to the point where the anime has almost 0 downtime 😭😭😭😭

      My fiance and I loved my dress up darling. He likes romance series but refuses to watch the new fruits basket because his sister used to rewatch random episodes of the original anime around him too often. It's a real shame honestly.

      my dress up darling is also nothing new. its just a "will they wont they" trope of romance that is just unbearable to watch. Also, JJK is peak shounen, especially after the Shibuya arc. Of course, JJK will be related to other shounens because of intertextuality. No work in literature is truly original, bozo. JJK is just straight up one of the best shounen.

    • @shadowstar2194
      @shadowstar2194 Před 10 měsíci +3

      @@espada8077 Honestly, I think you missed the entire point of My Dress up Darling. Sure it's a romance but ultimately, it's more of a coming of age story with Gojo. He's thrown in there and you would expect him to be just like every other generic romcom protagonist where they're supposed to be blank slates that you self insert into. But Gojo is an actual character, he has goals and aspirations, he develops, etc... Marin is there to be the catalyst to make that happen rather than be just a one dimensional love interest that follows MC around like a dog like most shows do with the main female lead.
      As for JJK, I wrote that comment before I had seen the movie. I still stand by season 1 of JJK being meh at best. I get that of course EVERY story will take parts from others, that's unavoidable but JJK in season 1 wore it's influences on it's sleeves and refused to deviate. It was enjoyable but an extremely predictable experience when it tried to portray itself as something deeper with complex issues like what makes the right death, how should you truly live life, etc... That being said, I have since watched JJK 0. I'm much more impressed with the series now. JJK 0 was really good. I haven't started season 2 yet, gonna let it go a bit further before I binge it rather than watch weekly. But to say it's one of the best shounens out there? It still has some work to do before I'd give it that accolade. If everything after JJK 0 stays as good as 0 was, then it definitely will have it's place as one of the best shounens but for now, no, I disagree.

I really really love action that involves real weapons or more hand-to-hand combat, or anything that explores characters and interesting themes.
