Maybe one day people will realize that wholesome and lewd do not share an axis. There are a lot of people who are wholesome AND lewd, and there are people who are deranged AND prude. There are also people who are none of those things.

The fact that it is so noticeable with Sykkuno that he has way more personality than the 2D prop people make him out to be (which I assumed the reply was pointing out when mentioning Sykkuno) proves that it isn't considered the rule for male streamers.
Hence, Sykkuno by being mentioned as an exception, proves the rule that it is rare for men to be boxed in like that. Because with Sykkuno he is considered special for being put in one. While with Emily, she is considered special for breaking hers.
Lastly, calm down man, I am neither attacking Emily or Sykkuno, your targets of adoration, whichever they may be here, are safe from my accusations.

Yeah I have the same thing irl. It makes me surprised when people say that because it's not like I'm hiding it or anything but I keep doing it non-chalently they catch on and then realize I'm just like that (wow I'm a normal human being. How surprising). It does get me out of situations though and staff and teacher always thinks that I'm not doing anything wrong so I can get away with some stuff cuz stereotyping 👍:)
Yes! Gosh, I get this all the time. People see me as somewhat innocent and shy at work because of my looks and my introverted self but when they add me in any of my social media, they get shocked because of my lewd memes and dark humor.
Someone even REPORTED me and got me in trouble at the HR because of the shock as if I had a "change of personality" in my social media. I didn't even post anything against my former work. It was the shock because I looked quiet and professional and baby-faced, then wild in my own safe space. It's terrifying.
Additionally, these same people always think I will feel awkward or will cringe if they make innuendos. Like come on, I know more sex jokes and innuendos than y'all do.
That happened to me in school as well, there was this guy in class who was annoying and I swore and he literally gasped and said, “You’re not allowed to swear”, although I think he not because I was shy but because of my weight and felt like he had to be condescending towards me

I think people gravitate toward specific archetypes because it's easier for them to maintain that particular fantasy/para-social relationship. Anytime they have a "break" in character so to speak, the viewer could very well interpret that as being misled, lied to, or even a downright betrayal. That's obviously a wildly over the top and borderline unhealthy conclusion to have about a person you never really knew in the first place.

@@mono8476 I think that mostly comes from biology, and not having ways to see if a male was unfaithful in the past. Really easy to see when a woman is heaving sex out of wedlock when birth control isn't a thing. Responsibility for sex also ultimately fell on the woman, been as they were the one to get pregnant, so females having sex outside marriage came with a lot of social stigma, resulting in these words.

I experience something similar. So, I don’t curse, and I refrain from saying anything slightly “dirty” or inappropriate that pops into my head, such as a joke or something, and my friend has friends who curse so anytime they’re around and cursing she’s like, “Hey, *name, Alana (me) is here!” And I’ve had to tell her that I’m not a seven year old and don’t need people to filter themselves around me, especially with something as trivial as cursing. When she does that it just makes me look like a baby who can’t handle a few words being said.

It genuinely sucks that the internet has a terrible habit of labeling content creators based on gender. Content creators should be able to express themselves however they want. It's THEIR channel after all, not the audience's. Also humans are complex creatures with many different interests/values. If a youtuber wants to be wholesome AND lewd, that shouldn't be problem. No one should ever feel obligated to fall under a stereotype for the sake of others.
Sonder: The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it.

It's almost like they choose to play those characters because they are either too insecure to be themselves on camera, or know their personality just isn't really entertainer material (which is fine, very few people are), so they rely on archtypes to try to be likeable.
There is loads of people out there, male and female, who don't play archtypes are perfectly successful on youtube.
The problem is that if you started as either seiso or horny to get easy attention, the audience you baited with those archtype behaviors WILL feel betrayed and complain when it turns out that isn't the truth. Idubz is a good recent male example, he betrayed the character he created for his audience, and the audience didn't like that.
TL;DR This isn't about women perse, but about how the influencer chooses to present themselves innittially, and if their real personality is even likable to begin with.

The one thing I love when watching Emily's video is how relatable she is. People have this idea of you and if you deviate from it, they are so surprised and don't realize that a human is not that one-dimensional.

When I listen to Emily's stories, I actually feel like the way she describes her life is so realistic and relateable that I couldn't put her in either of the boxes. She really does well to express herself as another human being and not being categorised into one of two extremes.
I'm pretty sure you can have in between if the subject matter is just neutral-like niche stuff (ex.Overly Sarcastic Productions)... I think what stems to Emily's problem is she's aware of her younger audience so she needs to adjust while her not-so younger audience didn't noticed it that they misinterpret it and made up their own version of what her persona is....
With the OSP example, isn't OSP Red literally asexual? I mean, she's not a virginal seiso maiden with regards to rude language, but she's definitely sexless. And IIRC so are multiple other people on that channel, including the guys.

This also applies to male content creators to a degree, but it's really noticeable with female creators. It's like their viewers see them as a characters rather than a living person. They want to see female youtubers as either pure angels or lewd succubuses to fit with their ideal perception of them. It's asinine, but it's part of the reason why people get so up-in-arms about Vtubers.
Between watching both Emily's channel and her collabs with Connor, I would still call her a cinnamon bun, but that doesn't lock her into an archetype. She's not above cursing or teasing her friends, but she's generally courteous, supportive, and awkward while having the humor to laugh at herself for it.
The first video of Emerichu’s I watched was her AMV of “It’s Not Like I Like You”. I watched that in like the fall of 2018. Then I watched a bunch of her other stuff.

This is why I do what I can to get to know people (in general) before I make judgments. That's the problem with only knowing someone online is that the viscerality of that person's presence isn't there so there's no emotional contagion (when you're talking to someone and you do gestures or start talking like the person you're talking to) and therefore you don't know exactly how they're feeling if that makes sense. I should know because I've made that mistake but I don't want to bring that drama here.

This comment section is disgusting. Emily discusses how the average internet audience has strange expectations of women, how male viewers criticize content creator women for not being stereotypically seiso or stereotypically horny. The comments go on to criticize vtubers for "being fake" because this or that vtuber didn't match their expectations. The point Emily is making is that such categorizations are inaccurate and bad, while the people in these comments make a third box to put women into and act like they are superior to everyone else. Gross.
Remember when Connor first showed up in Joey's videos and people were like "Why is he so quiet, does he HATE Joey?" not comprehending the simple fact that while Connor can be more loud and energetic on his own videos and streams to be interesting for the viewer, he does not want to seem like a conceited ass. People act differently in different situations, which includes streaming. This is normal. All the male content creators are just as "fake" while being watched but if you ignore all that and call female content creators "fake", "cringe", "annoying" what you are doing is displaying blatant misogyny.
vtubers actively delude their audience into thinking their some hot anime charachter when in reality their not. their decieving their audience intentionally and in a sense very weeaboo based.

She says the viewers put female content creators in two categories, but she also says that female content creators put themselves in those categories.
This means a significant portion of female content creators are indeed faking to be in those two categories, it's not just projection.
This in turn makes the male viewers correct to assume such dichotomic personalities.
And as the comment section points out, this phenomenon is especially prevalent with vtubers who often specifically create personalities that fit within those categories.
That latter part of her argument literally makes the comment section correct: there is ground to critique the fakeness of vtubing based on this phenomenon because they are especially faking to be within those two categories.
This is not a symetric phenomenon either, it's just like e-girls. Notice how you never hear the term ''e-boy'' ? It's not misoginy, it's simply an asymetric phenomenon that almost exclusively applies to women. Plus, in no way is the categorization bad since it's relatively true: if 80% of female content creator fall into two categories and 20% are various outliers, it is viable to use this categorization because it works most of the time even if you hit an outlier every so often. It's called discrimination (not to be confused with the negative meaning of the word) and it's a normal cognitive process to recognize patterns and categorize accordingly.

This entire comment section is a fascinating specimen of the exact thing she talked about, how so many people managed to hear one thing and interpreted to be another, convincingly taking out the part where they're are the one that's partly responsible for that "fakeness", is frankly astounding.
As for the e-boy thing? E-girl is usually used to describe those that are on Twitch, a place where the vast majority of audiences are straight males. E-boy don't exist on Twitch because that hive of scum and villain use Gay as an insult, no shit there wouldn't be any e-boy, there's no money to be made there.

I feel like the 2 female boxes comes from the simple decision men tend to make, either this woman is a potential mate or she is not. If yes, adult stuff is cool and desired. If no, adult stuff should be kept away. When you don't know someone that well, like in a parasocial relationship, you generally don't think beyond that because there is no need to do so or possible even desire.
Sadly it's worse than that. It has a lot to do with purity culture which in many ways is more predatory than viewing women as walking fleshlights.

I don't think that all female content creators are put into those boxes, I think that it's just that anyone on the internet close to either side of that spectrum put into the end boxes. There are plenty of female content creators who I know aren't put into those boxes, but I also know plenty who are but when they are it's usually because there's a certain type of content they make. It's sad that she was put into a box but based on her main channels very safe/innocent content I'm not surprised that's the idea people got. If you want male example I believe OddOnesOut had a similar rep for a while because he does similar content. Obviously it's more exacerbated for female creators and an issue, but thankfully I don't think it's currently a super massive issue.

I think with Emily the thing that kind of exasperates that image of her being innocent is that she comes off as a sort of plain Jane in her videos. Like aside from being girly and airheaded (and maybe kinda dorky as a result of said air head) I can’t exactly recall anything from her older storytime videos that I would say is something really standout of her personality. (Also the fact that those videos were more for a general audience- younger peeps included- probably doesn’t help.)
I wanna say the only person I’ve watched (that I can remember at the moment) that sorta caught a bit of the “girls are either pure or completely degen” was JaidenAnimations when she started using some swears on-stream and in her videos. (Granted her image is more dorky introvert but the effect is still the same.)
