In every argument, I pride myself in being able to understand the stances of both sides even if I don't agree with one of them. I can't fucking do that for this one. Do the blind taste test on the next episode and you'll see Garnt's right.
dark meat is absolutely better tasting than breast. He's also completely wrong about boneless wings. They're most of the time basically just nuggets and made out of breast. Breast is much drier and less tasty. I'm saying this as someone who eats boneless just because i hate the mess.

I am 10000% agreeing with Garnt - the breast being good is SO dependent on how you cook it/who’s cooking it and literally there is a difference in the muscles of white vs dark meat. Also hearing “all the parts of the chicken taste the same” made me so irrationally/viscerally mad

I eat chicken almost on a Monthly basis for 20 years and garnt is objectively right, chicken thighs and wings are objectively the juicier amd more tender part. But he cannot properly formulate his argument to save his life lmao

No cooking expert but not once have they mentioned that breast is thicker, meaning it takes longer to cook losing a lot of juice. Unless chicken breast is pounded then it has more juice. While thighs and wings can be cooked evenly containing more juice. They got so immersed in the debate that they forgot cooking techniques are a huge deciding factor

The flavor differences between white bread, rye bread, sourdough bread, pumpernickel bread, potato bread, cornbread, and bagels are massive and that's only a small section of breads in the world.

This fucking hilarious. I agree completely with Garnt, I mean, we pretty much (I’m Indian) all use thighs in our curry because of the flavor. So at the beginning, I was just as indignant as him. But over the course of the argument I just felt myself sink down to Joey’s energy level and just sit back and marvel and these grown men arguing about chicken.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’m gonna have to agree with Garnt on this one. I cook, and with poultry brining make a world of difference. A well brined chicken won’t need to be covered in sauce to taste good. Matter in fact I consider food covered in sauce lazy. Garnt was also right about white meat and dark meat. Dark meat is more forgiving due to the higher fat content. Fat = flavor and moisture . Lack of fat = lack of flavor/easier to dry… unless you brine it. Lastly, “boneless wings” are bullshit. They are sauce nugs. If I want wings, I’ll take them brined, no batter and sauce on the side. Air fried chicken wings are amazing. If I wanted fried white meat I’ll get chicken tender or chicken strip.

@@sailor7537 You are not wrong, however I just looked up nutrition fact on white and dark meat and I wasn’t wrong either. Dark meat contains almost three times the fat compared to white meat.
That's why Garnt knows the difference because he hate condiments. Connor and Joey say all part of the chicken taste the same because the taste the sauce, not the meat itself.
The bones make blood, which is the only real flavor added, but it's just adding a slightly salty flavor, which you can accomplish by adding salt, therefore you can eat boneless wings and have the same taste by adding something that you have in every household and food establishment. Also the calcium in the bone's effect on the taste is negligible. The fat content does make the meat taste different, however if you like that better then that is your OPINION. I know, it's crazy people have opinions.

I was watching this alongside my usually quiet and composed friend on Discord and they were just screaming telling me they were losing braincells because the boys don't know anything about meat. Probably my favorite moment yet.
Is the bone-in debate the same as dark vs. white? If so, Garnt is 100% objectively right. The cellular and fat composition between white and dark meat is different thus giving dark meat more flavour and juiciness. The texture is also different.
This is why I like my local Korean Fried Chicken place. Their boneless is still dark meat so you have the cleanliness of not having bones but the better taste from the dark meat.

Everyone starts out as a boneless person because it’s so much more convenient, but only when you taste the two side by side can you truly understand how shafted you’ve been buying boneless wings. @@amalkrishnanajay5907 Grant probably doesn’t like sauce mainly cause of the Asian dishes he might have been served with at a young age, usually Asian dishes already have the sauces and seasonings into the dish itself so you wouldn’t need ketchup or something on the side. In some cases however, soy sauce and/or vinegar will be a side option but the dish itself is good enough without it

the only explanation i can find to someone eating the bones and not axfixiating is that the chicken was overcooked to the point the bones were tearing apart by themselves.

Have to agree with Garnt there, both personally and scientifically. Just prep the chicken and cook it with the same technique and you will get different flavour as chicken breast is much leaner and tends to dry out much faster than chicken legs~

I'm going to give this one to Garnt. I didn't notice it before and used to love chicken legs, but when I attended culinary school years ago, the chefs made us taste thighs, wings, breasts and legs and in various ways of cooking them...there is definitely a difference in taste depending on which part of the chicken it is.
I much prefer breasts, wings or thighs to legs. The difference is subtle but most noticeable with the legs vs breasts. 😅

As a cook, bones in the chicken does provide more flavor but not under fast food level cooking times.
The reason why you make stocks (soup bases) with bones and scrap meat, is because it is scrap and using it is better than throwing it out. You can make a more flavorful stock if you use whole meat, however that would be super expensive and wasteful.

At least in the US it is. Nuggets are sometimes super processed "pink goo" (don't google this) while boneless wings are usually breaded breast meat.

Garnt is actually not wrong with some of his arguments. Chicken breast is less moist then chicken legs/wings. The breast is the driest part. It is possible to counteract that, but that doesn't change that it has less moisture generally.
In addition, depending on where you eat boneless chicken, it was either shredded and then pressed, or they use chemicals to remove the bone. Both affect the natural flavour (for some, not for everyone).
And joeys "all chicken tasts the same" and connors "all parts of the chicken taste the same" are just wrong as general statements. It might be true for them, but that says more about their taste buds than the meat at this point
