- Walkthrough of the recently concluded HP2 PC Extended Mod, showcasing most of the changes introduced. The majority of these changes are custom and they probably don't represent the original developers' vision.
NOTE: Some things in the current mod version may differ from what is shown in the video.
Part 01b: "Flying Car Adventure" Add-On (3_HP2Extended_AddOn_Adv0FlyingCar)
Note: Add-Ons are not part of the "official" Extended Mod experience and need to applied separately right after installing the M212Engine and the Extended Mod "General" package.
This mod requires the latest version of the "Metallicafan212's Harry Potter 2 Engine & Editor" to run. Gameplay was recorded at 1920x1080 resolution, borderless fullscreen, DX11 Renderer, and VSync enabled (60 fps).
The M212 HP2 Engine/Editor not only ships with a fully-fledged editor for the game, but provides support for DirectX 11 rendering, 64-bit, (ultra) widescreen resolutions, borderless window, horizontal+ FOV, uncapped framerate, X360 controller, and more. The New Engine/Editor will keep your game's language.
The Extended Mod is fully localized in the following languages: English UK (INT) and USA, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Portugal), and Spanish. Text translations available in Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Twelve months ago, if someone had told me the Flying Car minigame would become playable, I'd have laughed at their face. And yet, here we are: the restored "Flying Car Adventure" is finally here as an optional add-on for the HP2 Extended Mod.
I took the time to get a little more experience with UnrealScript (the programming language HP2 PC uses) to tackle my hardest modding challenge ever. I don't believe I passed the test with full marks, as there's some roughness around the edges here and there, but I can safely say this is still better than what came "out of the box" (check out Blizmed's video in the description). I'd like to thank fellow HP modders (in alphabetical order) AdamJD, MaxG, Metallicafan212, and Omega for their valuable support during my work on this add-on.
All the mechanics involving the minigame (which were broken or missing to begin with) had to be recoded from scratch due to my decision to update the original car's control scheme with the well-known broomstick controls. As such, I tried my best to replicate as closely and functionally as possible the devs' intentions on what was supposed to do what. I knew they had planned wind, lightning, and airplane mechanics, as well as a town system that would have alerted the muggles of the car (that's what the Muggle Meter was for). But that's pretty much all there is to know.
Wind, lightnings, and airplane have been implemented to the best of my abilities using the available assets. The town system (of which I've never been a fan, sorry) has been replaced with swinging searchlights as they're the closest thing to an alert system and, most importantly, they're visible and avoidable obstacles for the player. This means, just as for the entire mod, this add-on is not to be considered a faithful representation of the devs' original intentions, especially since it would be nearly impossible to tell what their exact plan was. Keep in mind that all of this must have been cut halfway through development.
I honestly don't think this minigame (restored or not) would have been a good introduction to the game, as its mechanics aren't representative of the core gameplay. In hindsight, it was a good call to cut this. But I must admit, as a child playing the game for the first time, I would have absolutely loved controlling the Flying Car in the game. I don't know if the children back then would have loved this restoration, but I feel glad I can give everyone the chance to fly Mr. Weasley's car for the first time in the PC game (in a playable form, at least).
I know the devs (KnowWonder) really wanted to release this level but they had to turn it into a cutscene due to time constraints. Though the work portrayed in the video may not be representative of their original ideas, I would still like to dedicate this add-on to the former KnowWonder team for their passion and hard work put into making this game. Thank you, KnowWonder.

Some ideas:
If to speak about add-ons, have you ever thought about making other levels from the early list (I mean Adv2FollowTheVoice, Adv5HagridHut(something), Adv8InsideDiary...)
Created by your own, your vision. But, in difference with, for example, Hermione Quest, completely new. New location, new map.
But all in all it's your decision what to do with the extended mod 😉

This was super cool, and for what you were able to pull off with the limited resources and lack of documentation. It's just really cool.
It does feel a bit rough, yeah, with the lack of voice lines, but I understand you did the best you could.
I'm probably not gonna add it to my instalation of the mod, as, like you say, it'd be weird for this to be the first playable segment. But this was cool.
This is absolutely outstanding! When I saw someone restoring the original cut ford mini-game, it was barely playable. Now it looks like it always was in the game.

Nope. It didn't make it far enough in development to get any real recording done

All the text on screen is custom, HUD included, as there was absolutely nothing in the files. But I had to include some sort of tutorial for the new mechanics

do u guys remember that hidden challenge near the gryffindor common room? i don't think it is playable unless you clip into the room so if possible i'd love to see it added as part of the gameplay!

I have a big problem: the muggle lights are invisible in my game!
I can only guess where are they, so the level is almost impossible to pass. I have Win11. It was earlier, it is now, after the update.

Please tell me, will this mini-game be built into the overall plot, or does it need to be downloaded separately (as a separate custom map)?
The procedure is the same as for Adv4GreenhouseOld and Adv10Hermione. Open the zip, drag and drop all of the content into the game's directory.

@annaprovidencetwitch that's nice! I think you were missing the sound package, that's why the first airplane didn't play the sound effect. Also, you probably pressed the Delete key during the cutscene skip, that's why the cutscene seemed to softlock.
Edit 26/01/24: Turns out the plane fly-by sound was entirely missing for some reason. It has just been restored.
@@divingdeep39 I don’t know about the sound (I think I added all the folders from the archive). The cutscene bug did not appear for the second time (at the end of the stream we went through this map again)

you should add a custom cutscene If you fail to avoid the spotlights, where Ron and harry are in snapes office. like reuse the line of diologe when being cought by a slytherin And tells them I believe a expulsion is in order. ether that or harry and ron behind bars in Azkaban.
add-on idea: how about a custom burrow level that serves as a tutorial. its in both PS1 and PS2 Versions of the game after all. enabling that means certain tutorial cutscenes (i can open this chest with the alohomora spell - this is a bronze wizard card) at the whomping willow level will not activate. as they were already used at the burrow and wouldnt make sense to be played twice.
Thr Burrow - that is beyond DivingDeep's vision of this mod. Would especially be harder with the game not having models for Arthur and Molly.
However, I myself wish I could learn modding, then I would make more stories from the book, and certainly implement a tutorial at the Burrow.
@wariolandgoldpiramid Voice lines for them exist because of ps1 and ps2 harry Potter, What he could do is position the camera so they are off screen but talking to them. Or you can have harry and the Weasley siblings stare at a door or window as they are talking to molly or arthur behind the door
Hello my friend. I hope to fix the bug: When you hit a Lumos spell on a wall, it doesn't give a reflection to the other side. This bug occurred when I updated the editor.✨
it's not supposed to do that for any spell. The hit lighting effect occurs only when the spell hits a proper target. The editor has nothing to do with it.

It's in the AddOn folder in the download drive. The "0_Instructions_FAQs.pdf" has every step for the installation.

I can agree with this statement and, if I didn't work on it, I'd probably think the same thing. Considering this section was scrapped very early on and there were no ad hoc assets, I feel like I did the best I could. Happy holidays :)
