- Walkthrough of the recently concluded HP2 PC Extended Mod, showcasing most of the changes introduced. The majority of these changes are custom and they probably don't represent the original developers' vision.
NOTE: Some things in the current mod version may differ from what is shown in the video.

This mod requires the latest version of the "Metallicafan212's Harry Potter 2 Engine & Editor" to run. Gameplay was recorded at 1920x1080 resolution, borderless fullscreen, DX9 Renderer, and VSync enabled (60 fps).
The M212 HP2 Engine/Editor not only ships with a fully-fledged editor for the game, but provides support for DirectX 11 rendering, 64-bit, (ultra) widescreen resolutions, borderless window, horizontal+ FOV, uncapped framerate, X360 controller, and more. The New Engine/Editor will keep your game's language.
The Extended Mod is fully localized in the following languages: English UK (INT) and USA, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Portugal), and Spanish. Text translations available in Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Intro
0:02 - Hedwig is no longer seen idling on 16:9 resolutions; added "Extended" in the title
0:51 - Hagrid is no longer seen peeping over the fence
1:11 - Ginny's robe no longer displays the Gryffindor colours, as she hasn't been sorted yet
1:21 - Lucius Malfoy is no longer visible in the right corner
2:08 - Replaced the "book"'s texture as foreshadowing (let's face it, even the novel does a poor job at this)
Whomping Willow
4:07 - Camera no longer clips through the Whomping Willow (where possible)
4:25 - Spells emit glow of matching particle colour
4:30 - Beans spin all the time
4:41 - Centred the wall torch
5:36 - Torches no longer get pushed away by the moving wall
7:15 - Thunder flash now works as intended
7:25 - Ron no longer slides during the cutscene; removed the Lumos particle edges
7:46 - Reduced the torches' excessive collision box
Grounds Night
8:57 - Added the Moon
9:21 - Path to Hagrid is opened from the first night
9:33 - Added smoke coming out of the chimney
10:20 - Hagrid's hut is accessible (Note: visiting Hagrid's hut during the first night disables his intro cutscene in the next day 22:47)
11:18 - New cutscene with Snape
13:21 - Second secret unlocked. Pay attention to the secret counter in the day-time grounds (22:53)
14:05 - New fake background displays a night-time Entry Hall
Entry Hall Hub
14:37 - Glimpse at the night-time lighting
14:40 - The door to the Great Hall is opened, though it may not make sense. You'll see why shortly.
14:54 - Night-time Great Hall featuring floating candles. Also, the doors open properly and graphic details have been added
16:05 - New cutscene with Nearly-Headless Nick (just to flash him out a bit more)
16:53 - Fixed glitch concerning spawners (such as knights, boxes, etc.)
17:02 - Touring around the night-time lit map
18:18 - Silver Wizard Card "Andros The Invincible" has been moved to another level
Transition
20:17 - Addressed a misaligned texture on the gray-brick tower in the background
Entry Hall Hub
21:18 - Day-time Common Room
21:43 - Gryffindor Challenge unavailable until Spongify is learnt
22:16 - Day-time Great Hall features a different skybox texture and clouds (should be more lore accurate)
22:44 - New fake background of the grounds
Grounds Hub
22:47 - Hagrid's intro cutscene won't play if Harry visited his hut the previous night (10:20)
22:53 - Secrets, chests, beans and vines in both night-time and day-time grounds are synchronised
23:27 - Some torches have been added in this area, as they were originally missing
23:52 - New fake background displays a day-time Entry Hall without the vendor

Nice idea to include the dialogues from the PS2 game
Wow to be honest, I never saw Hagrid creeping in the first scene under Dursleys home. Second Lucius, never noticed also! Great eye to spot things like that, but the most impresing thing for me is Hagrid's Hut. That was my wish to enter his hut to pretend I will get a hot cup o tea, you made my dream come true.
New scene with Snape and Nick, what an amazing addition! Thank you for your work!

Thank you so much for this amazing mod. I can experience my favorite game from my childhood while still finding new scenes and dialogue in it. Including dialogue from other game versions was a genius idea. I notice the drop in audio quality from time to time, but that's worth it.

I've watched the whole playlist. I can say it now without any doubt - you did a better job than EA Games. For real. I was playing this game my whole life, since childhood, and I've thought that was perfect as it is - but you just proved how undeveloped it was. I am astonished, for real. Most of the levels that you've added were like they always have been there, I had to keep reminding myself that it is just a mod. You pay a great attention to detail, it really shows. In the castle there were areas that were closed for no reason, I've never questioned that as a kid but now I see that it is a shame that those were just empty textures and nothing else.
You also made this game more clear on the storytelling level, you added more victims of the Hier of Slytherin, you were trying to make sure that if a character X says that they are in the location Y then they are really there. Also you've added alternative endings, some small cutscenes, NPC dialouges in the backgrounds that were indeed building up some mistery and crime as it supposed to. And above all - you've made Ginny and Nearly Headless Nick more meaningful, they were not just a checkpoints in the story like in the original game. Wow, wow and once again wow, you really made my day with this mod.
Wow congratulations for completing the extended mod!! You guys really made my dream of an HP2 PC remake come true! Also, some of the new levels gave me lots of inspiration for custom maps! :D
Thank you! It's not a remake, more of an attempt at buliding on top the original game by providing a more complete and coherent experience (which doesn't necessarily represent the developers' vision)

I feel like the devs really missed an opportunity to use the Quidditch mechanics to have a full on mini-game when flying the car to Hogwarts.
It was in the works, but due to time constraints they couldn't finish it and resorted to a cutscene. You can somewhat play it in one of the discarded maps in the prototype, though it's broken and pretty boring. I honestly think it wouldn't have been as fun as the PS1 minigame.
@@divingdeep39 Probably, but stuff like that makes me wish someone actually picked all those games from the beginning and remade them from scratch, adding all the stuff that there could have been. Not to mention all the fun plot related mazes and puzzles we could have had in the early game. Like some early game play in muggle world, maybe even a mini-game where we try to stop Dobby. A classic library puzzle in the Flourish and Blotts to catch up with other Weasley and Gilderoy - trying to maze through groups of people and collabsed books.
Love the extended mod, but it only makes me hungry for even more stuff in those games. Maybe because of all that nostalgia, but also because I love that genre of the game.
Hopefully with Hogwarts Legacy's success and the unnecessary TV show adaptation being made - maybe some day Avalanche also decides to revisit original books and adapt them again.
@@mjm3091 You can always pick up the editor and realize your vision ;) I didn't have any prior skills when I started this project, but I decided to dedicate my free time on it because I initially thought "why hasn't anyone done this already?" I had to come to terms with the engine's, the game's and my own skills' limitations, but I feel proud of what I could achieve as it is very close to what I've always intended to make.

Does this game with the new engine supports the use of a playstation/xbox controller? Or maybe the ROG Ally thumb sticks controls?
Yes, if I remember correctly it supports XInput controllers (like the Xbox controller). If you have a Playstation controller, you may need a third-party app to get it to work but do give it a try.
This was added mainly for Steam Deck support.

I would love to work on that, but at this time there's no good editor for the first game and there won't be for the foreseeable future.

Yes. You don't need any other third-party software and similar. Just the game and the new engine.

No, all the new cutscenes (or the additions to those) in the mod are completely fan-made

So the Chinese language family doesn't support this extended version?
No, but the M212 Engine can run game localizations with special characters (Chinese, Japanese, Russian, etc.) much better and in a more performing way

Yes, it's compatible from Windows 7 SP1 to Windows 11.
@@divingdeep39 Thx, tried it yesterday and works almost perfectly. However I encountered a bug: the Andros the Invincible card doesn't spawn from the chest (behind the statue next to the Skurge challange). Could this be the result of the mod or sth random?
@@jansniezynski7348 it's not a bug ;) I even mention it in this video. Some cards have been moved around or placed in different levels.
