    After watching Shawn, Kyle and Hayden do their thing for the past few years now, I signed up for welding school and am just about to complete my second week. Friday we test!!!! So stoked.
    We did acetylene welding, Tig, stick and MIG. I'm thinking about going into intermediate TIG or Stick.
    WWYD, Shawn??!
    Edit a few days later: Guys, so tomorrow is my last day of welding school and there's a local help wanted board so I applied yesterday for a place nearby. Within 10 mins of emailing him, he called me and asked for an interview and to take a weld test on thin stainless. had an interview today and GOT THE JOB. FIRST TIME welding on stainless or anything that small!!!!!! My new boss is starting me out at 19 an hour full time as a tig welder, making industrial animal vivariums!!! SO STOKED. Benefits and pay raise after 3mo.

    Hey shawn, just for future reference and something that may help down the road when using the dial indicator, each time the needle goes around is .100" so that's one hundred thousandths of an inch. So that first move that you did to the bell housing, if you had gone half of that for an offset, .050" you would have been right there bud. I'm not bashing on you, I'm a big fan of all you guys at pfi, boosted boys, rehab garage, I watch every single video the day you guys put them out. Just wanted to try to clarify that so maybe it's easier to dial in in the future and less work chasing the numbers around. I am a millwright and I use dial indicators nearly every day so just wanted to pass that experience along. I know how frustrating it can get. Good job, and keep up the good work on the build! :)

    • @MsOkitsme
      @MsOkitsme Před 3 lety

      Good catch there, I didn’t want to say nothing cuz he does amazing work. Glad someone caught it besides me. Dial indicators and micrometers get confusing at times, especially when you deal with metric and standard ✌️

    • @dannyb5023
      @dannyb5023 Před 3 lety

      Yeah I caught that as well. But he did say the range on his readings were .01"' and used the closest available offset to .005. I imagine he could've been saying thousandths, for his measurements and dowel offset, when he was actually dealing with hundredths. Not a jab at him either, super easy thing to do if you aren't doing it like every single day. I'd also bet that if it weren't for plate issue then it'd either be damn near center(if he was calling hundredths thousandths), or he'd realize he mistook his dial reading. Either the plate messed him up or he was simply off by a decimal place

    Good work Shawn, now is the time to make that kind of fitment perfect.
    Key Inserts may be a better product for that application- they are like a thick wall threaded bush, threaded inside & outside, with 4 radial square section keys that you drive in after you have the insert exactly where you want it which stop it from turning. Very robust thread when you're done. Be nice to have a couple of big dowels that went through everything from the block to the bellhousing just to keep it easy to work on without losing alignment hey..
    Very crucial piece of mechanical fitting, but you got it covered I'm sure.
    So thats the axial alignment, Are you gonna check the radial alignment when you're finished that?
    If a radial correction is required, be sure its done to the gearbox face of the bell housing, you probably got that covered too huh. Cheers from Australia mate.

    Would it be more easy to split the runout deviation into a 2 axis system to find its true position? In this case up/down and left/right. (Xy) find the max deviations in each axis and then you know you need to move Half the distance because you are looking at TIR total indicator reading. Last reading was .025 or .030 right? Then half would be a .0125 or .015 move.
    Can you spin the dowels once they are in? Might help with walking it to the right area.
