Update ! 2003 Chevy Tahoe 4.8L 4wd 331K miles. Here what has happen, I went to drain the tranny fluid and the drain plug bolt head stripped so I drilled a small hole in the pan and drained the fluid, I purchased a used refurb pan then took down the pan I changed the both solenoids A-B 2-3 3-2 then buttoned the pan up fill with fluid and it works ! Shifts nicely and its fast ! Thank you !
And thanks for the helpful tips for us guys whose disabled and on a fixed income.
Now I can ask about the parts like Im a transmission wiz at the auto parts store. Thanks. 😎👍

That’s one of the best comments.
@@dallynsr do both solinods have spring in them
Allein durch das video kann ich 3 fehlermeldungen beheben. hatte die teile gekauft wusste aber nicht wo die hin gehören.
Danke für das video
I started my envoy today and put it in reverse and it just revved. I was shocked. Yesterday had no issues whatsoever in reverse. I’m hoping it’s simply the shift solenoid that controls reverse
Haha 4l60e go **PNNNN**
I have this issue with reverse only. Did you replace the solenoid?
Thank you Scott for the way you explain this it helps a lot 9 _6-2023
I have a new problem. This video is excellent, hubby a mechanic, but really retired. My GMC Yukon XL Denali 2011 has had a slight problem for about 6 months, occasionally at a light, I press the accelerator and it jerks into gear as I take off. Then while driving home from a long trip a few days ago, at the start of the trip, driving 75-80 mph at times for the first hour. Stopped at rest stop, then when I got on the road the shifting wasn't working correctly. Sometimes when accelerating, the rpm's shot up but the car didn't seem to want to accelerate. We ended up driving home with the TOW button pushed and babied it going home. Hooked it up to a scan and it isn't giving any codes. We want to start with replacing both solenoids and checking the harness ends. But according to the friend mechanic that hooked it up, said it wasn't looking like it even has a solenoid in the transmission (like that particular transmission doesn't have one). He said all of this was confusing, not making any sense. So he will speak to some other guru's on it. Has anyone had something similar?
Scotty you are by far the best at explanation of what to actually freakin do man.you make the other dudes like they are sitting still son now if i can do it on my back all good thanks for your time and knowledge sir.
Thanks for the kind words and view. Glad to help.
@@ScottiesHobbieshi there I have a question my 1991 Chevy S10 pickup 4*3 it's automatic when get in to drive it then it takes a minute for it shift so would that be shift solenoid a or b
Hey Scott, hope all is well for you and thank you in advance.
I have just purchased a 2002 GMC ENVOY SLE, i was told the transmission was out . It had been sitting , at this point approximately 4-5 weeks. I arrived and started the engine and just for kicks pulled it in reverse and it took! I then pulled it 8n drive and it took. So i pulled it back into reverse and backed , up hill, out if the drive and proceeded ti go forward about 25 yrds , when i went to back up to turn around it would not take gear acted as if it was in neutral. So i psid the lady and loaded it on a roll back and brought it home to start researching . So the next day i went to fuse #47 in the rear block and sure enough the fuse was blown !!! - BUT-. i boosted it back off again ( battery is shot) and took off to town to try it out ans get some fuel. I got on it pretty good when i left and laid pretty good rubber and thoyght i had stole this envoy for no other than a fuse!!! NOPE.... LOL! made it about a mile and it started to be sluggish trying to shift and then juzt as if it was in neutral again ...not pulling at all.
ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thanks for this informative video budd. Ive never done any transmission work in my life but after watching this video and great angle by the way... My 97 chevy is driving like a badd mamma jamma and the gears are shifting smoothly. If i didn't pound some beers while i was doing this... I'd take the fam out for a test drive but i guess tomorrow's drive will be thanks to you budd keep them videos coming..👍
I also have a 97 k1500.. what did you all do to fix your shifting issues? Mine shifts hard and does not shift into 4th gear anymore. I haven't done anything for transmission work either other than a filter replacement, trying to do all my research before I drop the pan again.
😂😂😂
Thank you great vid no ads awesome stuff
This is the best video I've came across so far on this subject. My 03 just started acting up. It's stuck in second gear.i thought well it's gone. But when i hooked up my scan tool it said sylnoid b. So guess that's better than a busted tranny. I've never done this before but you explained it well enough I'm about to jump on it. I've swapped tranny's dozens of times but never a sylinoid. Hope that's all it is
Did it work? I just got a solenoid b stuck code also . Let me know plz
@@roamsolo yes it worked pretty easy fix. You will have to loosen yourexzaust manifold bolts to get your pan off. You dont have to take them off. Just loosen so you can pull the exhaust down a few inches. Make sure you replace both A & B sencor. That way you make sure it's not going to fail. I got A.C delco off amazon for $35. And it fixed it. I changed the filter while i was in their as well. Shifts great now. Good luck.
@@jason6325 awesome thanks man
I did replaced the solenoids on my 98 blazer and after i assembled all together i started on but did not engaged either forward or reverse. I problably need to go back and check the solenoid pistons and continuity on wires. Thank you so much for this video.
You need to keep up the good work I learned a lot about the solenoid keep these transmission videos coming I will watch them all 👍👍👍
Thanks! I plan it. I have a couple more fyi vids like this one coming up soon. I also have another 4l60e laying around that I might rebuild with every upgrade i can find that will work with one another.

Thank you Scott for the informative video I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe 4.8L 4wd
331K miles the codes are P0758 Shift Solenoid 2-3
I bought transmission filter kit with the A-B Solenoids and a 3-2 shift I figure Ill change it any way. Ill do this in a few days I feel very confidant to do this task while the Tranny is still mounted performing it upside down. I'm sure this is the problem and I will check the grounding and valves THANK YOU !!
Was roasting tires like a goofball doing some weight transfer in the rain in my 2013 silverado. Went home went to bed woke up and now my 1-2 shift revs really high and finally drops in after it hangs at 4.5k. If I let off the throttle at 2.5k where it used to shift it shifts into 2nd no problem at all. Checked fluid And level was really low so put a few quarts in and that helped a little so now under light throttle at a stop sign it will shift basically fine again but anytime I put a little bit more than a little throttle it pulls the rpms up real high and holds them until it hard shifts
Im So glad i came across ur video, Thanking God i did... I was just replacing my shift solenoids and well into the night when i finally made to them..lol had to remove my drop bar to even to the last three screws... anywho when i removed the first Solenoid it popped out And i didnt see anything else fall , well long story short i noticed the long grooved like pen u pulled out.. So now i know what to do with it.. thank u ..
Glad to help! Good job getting the job done!

I need your opinion on this one because I’m not sure so whenever I got the car I was told the trans was “rebuilt” it goes all the way to 3rd gear an will not go to 4th I manually put it in 2nd an it’s fine does feel sluggish going threw gears but it will not go into 4th well at least this is what I’m thinking because the car starts raving alittle to high I think it’s perfect till I get at about 60 or 65 an then you start to realize it’s not shifting oh an also if you kick it down it doesn’t down shift from what I can remember I’m gonna go for another drive an test it again do you think this could potentially be my problem because the trans doesn’t feel bad whenever I manually put it in second it pulls great even 3rd pulls great just no 4th
Just subscribed, thank you for the info. Doing my first replacement, 1993 Firebird Formula 4l60 lt1
Good luck! These 4l60s can be a little tricky. 🤞💪👍
I did a 94 chevy Silverado. I was replacing solenoids and I heard something pop and fly and hit the rear end. Found everything I cleaned everything up put new solenoids in. 3 years later still shifted good. My second experience was a code on a 2001. I found out a 16 year old changed transmission fluid and knocked a clip loose with the pan , while inspecting it. Just snapped it back in. The simplest solutions are usually the right solution.
That is the biggest mistake with new techs. I did it too. A lot of repairs are small and noticeable if you take the time to look at the whole picture before you start.
Great tip!! 💪👍 keep us posted on your repair process and let us know if you have more awsome tips.
Why would transmission shops charge big money just to change the solenoid. When u just made it so simple. Because i have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 hd 4 wheel drive longbed ls. And I'm dropping the whole thing for nothing. I've just learned that it's not that hard by u thanks bro. And I'm buying a whole transmission for 1200. I'm going to keep my old one and fix it that would give me a backup. Thanks again.
I have ground only on 1 wire for each shift solenoid. No power to pin e but there is on pin d. Had p0756. Tested solenoids and they were good cleaned vb bore and nothing. Shifts good sometimes but then goes into third.

Bro thank you for the video I really appreciate this I wish someone could teach a live course on this stuff, I went to a school to vê a Mechanic some time ago and I was asking question about tearing a engine down and rebuilding it anyway long story short aparently this is a hobby now a days 😳 I said what with a confused look on my face and said thank you and left, to me if you know nothing about how a engine works then what's the point of taking out a engine and replacing it with a new one if you don't know how the engine functions 🤦♂️🤷♂️ I must have missed that part growing up. I have a 2012 Chevy Avalanche LT and I can't find no one working on this transmission.
This just saved me from duecing my POS
Thanks for the video bro!!
My brother thank you for your time and help. My situation is. I’ve replaced the transmission, both shift

Great video thanks.
Seeking your advice;
98 chevy c1500 4.3 4l60e.
Sat for 5 years. Was a gift. Changed filter/fluid. Nothing major at the magnet. Just small dust. When cold trans shifts in all gears. Once slightly warmed, it shits the first hard(brutal). After that it doesn't shift. What's your opinion?
The great white hope!! 👍🏽😘
Interesting, came up with a P0748 code on a safari van. Hard shift into drive from park, and hard shift when going from 1st to 2nd.
Mine has a harsh shift from park to drive but if I go park to reverse for few seconds and then drive it’s fine. 2.2 s10 auto.
Good video 👌🇺🇸
your videos definitely helped me a lot. However I'm not great with electrical so heres where Im at. P0756 code. but was having very low power long before the code came. did everything you said. Solenoids test perfect and valves didnt seem to be gunked up. there was a small wear spot on them in the finish but suspect thats normal. My issue is with the wiring. have a cheap probe from harbor freight but it works. Only one of the harness wires for each of the 5 or 6, 2-wire connectors inside the trans will show ground with the key off. (I haven't tried it with the key on). it seems in one of your videos you said they both need to show ground. Does this mean my harness internal harness is bad?
I have a2007 trailblazer shifts first and second gear no problem then it want shift to third and fourth gears mechanic says it needs rebuilding but it doesn't slip when it shifts to second I need help
@@jamesbonner7202 is look into those shift solenoids. My issue was power not shifting. But ended up selling it before I resolved it.

In this video which is the A and which is the B shift solenoid? - which shift valve body / solenoid is the one that has the spring behind the valve? Which solenoid is the one that goes to that valve with the spring behind it? Thanks.
I know its been 3 years now Im at your point now I think it doesnt matter
My Sierra has 230k and I'm in the middle of my second full rebuild and I should have bought a 2500hd with an Allison auto trans or preferably the 5spd manual. I have personally grown to hate the 4l60e.
1996 chevy silverado k1500. 4l60e got rebuild 30k miles ago and it acts fine when i’m driving after about 20 minutes of driving and i come to a complete stop, go to take off and it wants to go 5 mph. feels like it’s stuck in 2nd. i put it in 1st, then 2nd. nothing. i have 3rd and then no 4th. this happened out of the blue. i let the truck cool down and its fine again until 20 minutes of driving.
I have a question!
I have 2002 Tahoe
At sometimes I can get it to go reverse n it can almost go forward
Could that be the solenoids or the transmission
I have the exact same issue did you ever find out ?
Any update?
One thing ive notice is alot of videos don't mention the mistakes you can make doing the job. Be careful
#facts.
Doing these repairs at home usually end up costing you more in the long run to be honest.I always recommend if you are going to open the case up and take a look at a solenoid or a sensor, you might as well buy a kit that includes the harness and all the sensors at once. The fluid in this transmission is not cheap. And many times. You have to open the case again because the 1st repair was not the right one. 7 times out of 10 with these transmissions if. You have over a 120000 miles and you are getting any transmission Drivability symptoms you might as well save for a rebuild. If not a new transmission.
czcams.com/video/lg8cCPQHpu0/video.html That is a pretty Old video I made with a few recommendations when messing with your transmission. I fly past the Mention of how easy it is to make a mistake as well but I do my best to give you my honest opinion.

Is there a spring in both and and b I'm missing one . By the driver side . My truck only has 2nd and 3rd
I wish I would of known all this before replacing my silinoids AB. Now after doing it on my 2006 GMC Sierra truck. Where it was the worst year of ttruck for GMC where the exhaust goes right under the transmission pan and it's almost impossible to even get the pan off with ten times the work. I did it after a week of work for n the rain and snow, in the driveway at 30°. Now the truck is back to extremely bad. No power high Reve to get anywhere. Except for putting the truck into 2nd and 3rd gear to get anywhere. The same code is popping up still. I absolutely don't have the money to get it done being a two time kidney transplant patient with two strokes and 12 years on a dialisys machine. It's extremely hard to get anything done let alone doing this all over again. God please help me!!!!!
I'm doing mine right now and the damn exhaust is in the way 🤣 first time any type of transmission work for me aswell. Did you just take the exhaust off?
Nice. However when you took out the 2nd one, you should have wiped it off as you mentioned while you had it out for visual representation. Regardless of the fact it may have been a 'junk' transmission. 👍🏻
That is a great tip. 👍🏻💪🏻
Sir scott my problem is when the transmission get hot it race & have no power .i just rebuilt it
Hi. I have a problem with my GMC ENVOY XUV My GMC Envoy has been working fine and I drove it earlier today to run some errands and parked it at home. 4hrs later my wife gets in to use it, starts it up fine, tries to go in reverse and the car doesn't move. The engine revs up but wont move forward or reverse. Its almost as if it its in park. One thing I did notice is that when I shifted the gear its was a lot smoother when transitioning from Park to the other shifts than any other time. when I shift the gears and also when I shift it isn't allowing me to push my vehicle, its almost as if it is stuck in park even after shifting. My car has 143000 miles. My car has a automatic transmission and Automatic Transmission Control Solenoid I changed and new trans oil and filter still not moving.

Scottie hobbies, bro u might have just saved me thousands of dollars but I still have a very serious question......... with the 4L60e if it's hotter than hell like it's been in the south these past weeks would the heat make it not shift or only give me one gear .... going to work I had only high gear and only able to creep off a stop sign (no power like the motor is running hot but it's not) then 6 hrs later when I leave work to limp it home at night it shifts an runs smoothe as silk .... guess my question is do I need to flush the system an freshen it up with new fluid or would it be the tranny intercooler which I've been told is an issue in these c/k obs 1500?
Nice video but where do I locate the shift solenid in Honda CR-V, 2016/17 edition.

How about when you have ground on one side not the other then turn key on and get ground on other but not the first one
In your video you say both wires of the shift solenoid plugs should show continuity. That being the red and green of solenoid A and red and orange on solenoid B in a 2004. I'd did that and only the red Gaver me continuity. My question is if it's a DC current why would they both have negative continuity?
I believe it was key on engine off all wired had continuity.

I have a 2001 tahoe with a remanu trans installed about 5 years ago. Now when i accelerate from a stop, I get a slight slip going from 2nd to 3rd at about 28mph. If I accelerate slowly you almost don't feel it. Other than that it works perfectly. I baby it for the 2-3shift so can hopefully get many more miles out of it. I watch the tach and I can see it go up like 300-400 rpm then drop when 3rd kicks in. Do you think its a solenoid problem or something else?
I drive 2001 chevy silverado...i clipped a deer ..spun out and went off the road...normally it shifts at about 1100 rpms to go into second gear now it has to get up to 3000 to 3500 rpm before it shifts and no overdrive??? Any help on problem???

On A and B shifts Solenoid putting it back into place on my 2004 Transmission!! my Transmission doesn’t have a spacer! does it vary in the years of making the 4l60e to have a spacer
Not all of the models have the spacer. So if you removed yours and a spacer did not come out. Leave it alone and reinstall it as you removed it.

My 04 yukon denali will shift from first to second but wont shift from second to third etc... any ideas?
Hi Scotty. I was coming home from work today driving my 03 HummerH2 & while going to down the road felt a hard jerk & transmission down shifted. I pulled over & put in park. Got out & looked under vehicle for fluid or anything outta the ordinary. All looked good. Started vehicle back up, put in reverse went into reverse fine, shifted to D nothing, then 3rd nothing, so I shifted to 1st moved just fine, 2nd just fine, but no 3rd or drive. Luckily I wasn't far from home so drove home in 2nd. Does that sound like the shift solenoids?
I have same problem on my 02 Tahoe did you found out what it was
Dang this was 4 years ago. Hopefully I can get an answer. Is there any programming after installing the new solenoids?
I got a 1995 dodge ram 1500 that wont go into gear but the shift works
Great video! Very understanding
you mentioned using power probe to check for ground in solenoid wire harness (said should have ground on both sides or plug) which it would have been great seeing you actually have the probe activated on a battery to see you do it... I get ground only one one side of each solenoid harness, so was it true the probe should light up or beep on both sides? and or should the car key be turned? or everything off to do test?
I have a 2004 Envoy LT and I just had the transmission rebuilt about 7 to 8 years ago went to Florida last week car ran fine went to go visit our son in Daytona and the transmission was going at the first second and third with no problem and then when it went to Overdrive it would just slip it wouldn't even grab so I had to put the car back into third to drive it what would be causing that problem thank you
Which is shift solenoid "B"? And what does the meter read when you say it shows "ground"?
Cool video I like that you made mention of the linkage and that some people bend them I didn't want to but it was easier than trying remove it. My question is how how likely is it that replacing these two solenoids will correct my no shift problem. My tahoe drives perfectly accept the part where it fails to shift out of 1st accept when it's cold
Shift solenoid could be a issue, stuck shift valves in the valve body is common. Another common issue would be your one to accumulator not moving properly.
But check out this video I uploaded a wile ago: czcams.com/video/lg8cCPQHpu0/video.html
