Thank you Jose! I’ve been watching your channel for a long time. I bought a couple of “higher end “ printers in the past and didn’t listen to you and clogged em up from non use. I work a lot, and love to shoot when I can. Printing enough to keep the printer in shape has always been my downfall. People love me to share my images, but I’ve been too picky about editing and printing using the best paper, and end up not doing it. I just bought this printer and I think I can approach it differently. JUST PRINT DAMMIT! Will be my motto with this printer, as inks are affordable, I’m not looking to get 700 years out of a print any more (hell, I’m 65, my grandkids aren’t even little kids anymore. I’m not making history. Sorry for the ramble, just want you to know you’re an inspiration. Thanks

Excellent vid. I usually cut the underside of the box. Then fold the sidesupwards and just lift the box off the top. Works for me with my bad back.

This thing is a no brainer! Looking at high end p900 or p700. When I saw the ink replacement costs at $66.00 per cartridge, I feel of the chair! Vs. 8550 complete 6 bottle set at under $90.00, this is the obvious choice! I think unless you are looking for complete perfection, it's just not worth investing in anything other than this model! Can't wait to order mine! Thanks for the video!
I got my ET-8550 almost a year ago when they were super hard to get ahold of; mine's a refurb direct from Epson. I was a little hesitant because of potential negatives such as, "it has fewer colors" or "it uses dyes", but honestly, with a little care and setup, it can produce prints that are quite a bit better than back in the day when I made wet RA4 prints in a lab.
I'm absolutely thrilled with it. I gave up trying to get good results from online print houses, including very well known ones and just went for the printer. Those dye inks are fantastic on the right paper. The results I can get out of it are better than any lab I've tried. And it's cheap to run! But yes, it drinks the grey faster than any other color.
The only negative is it can be slow, especially on best quality, large prints, but I'm not trying to churn out pictures, so it doesn't matter to me.
Ok, you should know by now, that all the ink bottles are keyed differently for each color. I found this out by trying to put the wrong color in an ET-2760, it would not go in the slot, so then I checked and found out I tried a wrong one. Once you put the correct one in, it flows like water into the tank. My printer works fine, and it's close to 3 years old now, and we moved one time. No issues, provided you keep the printer UP, do not turn on side, nor tilt it when moving. Great Video Review.

I was debating sending it back and getting the ET-8500 but after seeing your review and some others I will stick to the ET-8550 because I may use it for big prints in the future..Keep up the great work and videos...very easy to understand!!! Just have to make a little more room on my computer desk...

This is solid advice about this CD being out of date, most software is out of date so its best to download from a manufacturer website. Looking foward to usinv the epson E8550 printer. For artwork.
You can't make a mistake filling the ink. Epson took care of that. Each bottle has a different nozzle, it can only be inserted in the correct tank
I just got Epson 8550 and your vidos on this printer are awsome. Really good information!!!
The output on this printer is raelly good. Especially the B&W prints once the driver is set for B&W and no profiles are used. Oh by the way the latest IMac os (Ventra I belive) is terrible. The Epson driver on this version just doesn't work. Since I am already heavily invested Apple computer, I bought a cheaper Windows laptop so I can run Qimage Ulimate. I am running the trial version but will buy this awsome software. Qimage One for Apple computers is a problem since Epson driver is the issue.
Great video thanks, i bought my 8550 couple of months ago to replace my very old canon pro 9500, i did look at canons but ink prices were too expensive so opted for the 8550, what a Great printer soooo happy with it.
Jose, Great Video. I move at your speed at 82. I have not bought my unit as yet but I am absorbing CZcams material and learning that my printer choice is on target. Do show the whole unit in future videos. My Epson ET-4800 is very satisfying.

Thank you for a very interesting and instructive installation guide for the Epson 8550. When I search for a dealer here in Scandinavia, the 'closest' model is called 'EcoTank ET-8550' which just seems to be the same 'Eco Tank' named twice, but with no 'Multi' in the end (?)
The above is the prelude to my question just before I make myself an Epson owner: Is this printer model still pr. early December 2023 the foremost printer regarding all the features you show, or has a smarter version of the same concept occurred, since you published this video?
Why would I ever want to fill it with non-OEM ink? Well, I think I would like to try a couple of cone inks. Super super duper blacks actually. And see if that has any influence or improvement in depth, contrast and intensity or whatever. Definitely want to try the HD photogloss black, tend to be honest, I don't even use this printer for text so I don't care what the blacks are like. I'd be happy to try his HD matte pigment based Black one as well; buy in bulk and share among a few printers if necessary.

Love your videos, and your thoroughness. And you found quite the niche that is very much yours. I actually have a question. I just got an 8550 to replace my 7500 which is still in mint condition and works perfectly. It's photos are great, and I don't know even if I noticed that much of a difference with the addition of the gray ink. And then I guess some maybe the technology has improved or something I don't know. Do you have any thoughts on this?
I kind of wish I had bought the 7550 for the wider format. And so I kind of was always jonesing for a larger form factor one. Well now it turns out I'm probably going to have another printer anyways, if I can get this Canon Pro 1000 working. In which case how important is it to me? Have a large super super cheap printer that prints decent photos?
And perhaps at a thousand bucks, and that I haven't gotten $500 for my previous ET printer perhaps I should consider just staying with my previous 7500. You don't happen to have any thoughts on this dude? I don't know if you've compared them or not, probably not though.
Hey if you do a print head nozzle check and all colors have perfect lines except only magenta has one or two little gaps would you do a cleaning? 😮
José, great video…I just got a ET-8550! I’m going through the learning process with Lightroom CC…I totally forgot about QImage…I used it in the early 80’ ! I will go back and start using their “ultimate” I believe. BTW, I found you not long ago and watching your videos…Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Be safe, Cheers..

Sent the code to them requesting if possible a full upgrade…if they honor the old license - upgrade price, I will compare to your 10% and decide then. Kodak doesn't provide icc profile for this printer.... actually I didn't find icc profile at all for this printer

Jose you loaded some letter size paper in tray one then it said to NOT load any paper before the printer is initialized? Did you have to take out that paper you loaded ?

I bought the Epson ET 8550 & I have it installed on my laptop now. However, when I opened my pdf file that I created in Procreate, in Adobe Reader, while the printer dialogue box is larger than it is in Procreate on my iPad bc no drivers are installed for that, there still is no place to select borderless. I clicked on Advanced Settings & More Options and still zilch!
Do you know what program I need to use to open these in to get the borderless option? I asked Epson when I spoke with them earlier, but they were useless.

Tremendous video Jose, you always do a great job on them. I need to upgrade my old Epson 1400 and I was already to buy the XP 15000 which I have learned so much from you about. But this ECOTank is a game changer especially for the ink costs. In comparing the photo print quality which would you say is better the XP 15000 or the ET 8550 or are they equal. should I convert to eco solvent water based ink? If so what are the pros and cons? I have a small side hustle making stickers, could you please help me out, my paper has some wet ink on it at the end when its completing the final print out. Yes as long as you do the FIRST TIME fill with sublimation ink. Precision Colors has a link on their site which is NOT YET ACTIVE, but when it is active, it is expected to be sublimation inks.

I just purchased this computer. I've listened to a number of You Tube videos on unboxing it & setting it up, including this long one, but they've said not to download drivers for Air Print & for right now, that is what I need.
Down the road, I'd like to be able to connect it to a very old desktop that isn't hooked up right now because of a flood. However, the OS isn't up to date & I'm not going to upgrade it because I'd have to wipe everything out & start from scratch. It's at a point where I can't just upgrade over it. I don't need it for the internet at all, just some programs on there that I can't install any longer. Do you think I'd be able to do that?
Also, while I was watching the videos online, I saw that it does come in black, but it certainly isn't easy to find & the two places that have it are charging $250 more for it. :( Any idea why it's difficult to find in black?
While I was looking for it in black though, some places list a ET & a Super ET with the latter being $100 more & I don't know what the difference is? I was hoping I might be able to find that out also.
I sure miss the time when stores had all of these set up & you could try them in the stores & the sales people actually had knowledge of them.

Jose just bought that printer and I'm realizing that the gray color is not printing, the tank of that color is still intact after many prints, unlike the others that have lowered their level, and when performing the nozzle test I only get It prints 5 colors, the gray color is missing, I have already done cleaning and I cannot solve the problem, do you have any suggestions for me?
Did you figure out the issue with the gray not printing?
@@markmuller3086 Yes friend, I disarmed it myself and discovered that the gray hose was strangled.

Is there a way to convert the dye inks to pigment ? Or anyone selling comparable pigment colors to replace the dye ?
No. You can not convert a dye ink to pigment. You would need a LAB.
You can however switch from Dye inks to pigment inks but only on EPSON Printers that allow you to use refillable cartridges.

Hey Jose, I totally worded that wrong, but you answered my question anyways. I want to use all pigment inks in this printer, and wasn't sure if that was possible. I understood some and missed most when you were mentioning it in the video. Could you point me in the right direction to find info and ink on how to ?

I just got the epson echo tank ET 8550 I finally got it to print the 13 x 19 page from the back paper tray. now I want to print 8.5 x 11 and can't get it to print it says its out of paper. I loaded paper in the back tray and cartridge 2 and it still says it's out of paper. How do I get it to recognize where the paper is and print from that port
That's strange. There are sensors that can "Feel" there is paper installed. Restart the printer and see if it clears that error.
Does this printer have a fax on it??? To bad this printer is so expensive, what is the next 2 printers below it please. What do you do with all the printers, do you sell them after you inspect them?

JOSE I have had my ET8550 for about a month. I can not agree with you on this machine. Thinking about sending it back. It constantly clogs!!!! The Ole EPSON CLOGS are back. YES I use it everyday. Yesterday I had 3 clogs during a print run. And it has some sort of looks like there's a cat tail up underneath the print head! There are ink smears on about every 5th print most are off twards the border but some are on the image areas. I have 145 complete in the print history. It seems to be no better than an Old HP office printer.
At 57:12 the outfeed paper tray slides out.
Are those two (2) blue things on the sides of the tray packing tapes?

@@cheo1949 really? What are they? I think I removed mine if it had them thinking it was just more blue tape.
Also while I have you, I have the ET-8500. I've been having jamming problems I've trying to print on double sided thin gloss paper. First I tried 32 which was 140lbz. No chance. I'm using 38 now which is 160lb. Every few times it jams. I just started trying tray #2 over the tray on top and it's worked the first 2 times but I'm still wary. Any advice. I have the settings on just glossy paper since apparently premium etc are all thicker. Do I need to actually choose the thin paper setting which doesn't mention photo or gloss at all on it. I'm also wondering if the paper isn't lined up perfectly since sometimes it seems almost like it's off the the right just a little to much. I've don't all the maintenance things in settings besides the highest super power cleaning option. Idk if I need to go that far or if that even matters since quality isn't a problem. I know I should of bought the 8550 I wish I did even if it doesn't apply to this problem. Also paper size is normal 8.5×11

You just can't put a bottle in the wrong place, they all have different slot configuranttions
