  • Jeff Copper (digcoaching.com) is an ADHD coach and host of Attention Talk Video which is part of the Attention Talk Network, attentiontalknetwork.com.
Got ADHD? Do you think you pay attention to facts or to your belief about what something is supposed to be? In this video, ADHD and attention coach Jeff Copper (digcoaching.com) shares a lived experience about observation. Take any experience and relate it to the world of ADHD. You would be amazed at how often we judge facts as the way we believe them to be, not how they actually are. Understanding this is key to managing ADHD.

A tool that helps me when I’m struggling to “turn off” my beliefs about what I am avoiding is challenging myself to describe the situation as an epic fantasy adventure. It sounds silly, but it really helps lower the alarm bells of negative and judgmental thoughts that start ringing in my head when I try to take action. Somewhat paradoxically, imagining a real life situation as a fantasy situation allows me to see the TRUE reality of the situation far more clearly.

That isn't silly at all. In coaching we have various things we do that are similiar to help people step out fo themselves to see things differently... BOOYA!

@@kristenb5177 Thank you for making a video suggestion. I appreiate it more than you know.
I've actually done a video on this (like 10 years ago with ADHD Career Coach Wilma Fellman... who is retired). Search you tube... attention talk video Where Can I Get ADHD Career Help? How Do I Know They Get It?... about 2 minutes in we answer your question. Basically if anyone give you or reccomends and generic ADHD friendly job list... RUN! There is really now shuch thing (not have the time to go into detail). The key is this! You need to understand yourself and the characterics needed in an enviroment to thrive. If you don't you are really just guessing.
After thinking about it... i'll make a new video up circle back on my old one.
      thanks

Thank you for explaining this. I always go over too many what ifs in my mind when I am trying to solve a problem or am waiting for a reply to a text for example. I make myself more anxious thinking too much about why the person has not responded In a timely manner and the worst case scenarios
Take up too much of my energy. Im learning to redirect that energy to a task that I can be productive in rather than worry about my unanswered text.

I remember that our teacher did something similar, but instead I drew the board, the teacher table, the teacher, the class clock. Lol, I drew literally everything that I saw in front of me.

This was very good! So important to hear that our feelings are not always valid. I'd say they are not valid most of the time except in practical problem-Solving ways.

Don! Agreed. Very well articulated. This is why self-awareness is so important.
