    Dang Sean, timing is everything. I’ve had my shelves for a while and they are laid out in my train room. Why? I’ve been stressing about installing them. Thanks to you, every problem I was stressing over was addressed and resolved. Mainly the install for level, middle screw was genius, the joiner pins were sort of stressing me, too big a stretch, not enough etc. and drilling into them. Thanks for doing this. It really helped.

      HA, so glad it helped. I was afraid this video was going to be a bust, but I like to do videos to help people rather than always show just what was the next thing I bought, lol.

      @@seanstraindepot I understand what you’re saying. It really helped me since I got the info from you on buying them from Glen Snyder I figured you would know and the fact you did the video just hit me at he right moment. Thanks. I wish other CZcams folks would do more like you do. One of my other favorites is Thunder Mesa because of his videos on scratch building. The way you do these is pretty awesome so keep it up. Please!

    Sean: Thanks SO much for this video, and especially thanks for a good searchable title on the video. I saw an opportunity to buy some used Snyder HO/S shelving from Trainz so I jumped on it before someone else did. At last, I have been able to get my Gilbert S Gauge American Flyer collection OUT of the boxes and onto some shelves! Now I can see my railroad empire! When it came time to start the installation I remembered seeing that someone had made a great CZcams video on installing the shelves but couldn't remember who had done it. I found your video quickly because of your good title. I can't thank you enough for your thorough explanation and installation tips for the shelves. I sat at the computer for about 3 hours mapping out my installation...it was pretty complicated to get everything the way I wanted it on the wall. When it came time to actually start the installation, I discovered that my "flat" sheetrock wall was FAR from being flat! The right side and center screws are flush, but the left screws needed 4-5 washers to keep the shelf from flexing! I had no idea the wall was so warped. But I knew exactly what to do thanks to your video. The only other problem...after I got all 10 shelves installed I discovered I've got more trains than shelf space! I ordered the next batch of used HO/S shelves from Trainz and will finish the shelf project in the next few weeks. I love these shelves and my husband even gave me the coveted spousal approval for the installation! Win-Win!

      Thats great, so glad it helped. GS shelves are the best but on back order until next summer. I actually bought those same shelves from Trainz first because they had them labeled as O Gauge by mistake. and had to return them, lol.

    I'm in the process of adding these shelves to a wall that is sheet rock and is wavy to say the least, your video was extremely helpful. I really liked the idea about using the flat washers, really good idea. I was considering wood cabinet shims but I really like your idea better. Your shelves look really great, I will probably end up ordering more of them in the near future. Thanks for a really great video.

    Believe it or not, you can use the shelf at the bottom of a chalkboard that you find in schools. They were remodeling a school by me and I was able to get some. It's a good alternative if you're on a budget.

    Thanks for the instructional video. I plan on putting shelves up on my poured concrete wall. So drilling in the wall should be pretty much the same. I plan on making mine out of wood.

    Nice looking shelving. A bit pricey, though. I use shiplap. The back of shiplap has grooves that are the same width as O gauge track. You can buy it in different lengths already painted or paint it whatever color you want. Just put up an adjustable bracket system and you can move the shelves to whatever level that you need The Glenn Snyder shelving is real nice and goes well with a nice, finished area, but maybe over budget for many in our hobby. Nice video, as always.

    Enjoyed you’re video, very informative… You mentioned you have concrete block walls, looks like you covered the block walls with FRP panels, how thick and size are the panels. need to do that to dress up my block walls, I assume you glued it to the block wall , what adhesive did you use?
    Thanks

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před 8 měsíci

      It was the special adhesive specifically for FRP panels. That was like 15 years ago, so I don't remember the brand.

    Did you ever have water seeping in cinder block celler walls after you drill holes. I wish to build sheves, some for my engines and rolling stock and also to mount bookshelve speakers on their own shelves. Dont know if the blocks are solid or hollowed. I bought the house in 1984, painted the walls with white cement based paint (has cement in it). Right now, the shelves are 1 by 3 artached to boards attached to and dropped from the ceiling. I know water is alway possible, but seems you've had no water problems seeping thro holes. I have a sump pump and french drain. Also, I liked the way you covered the sump pit, never liked my collection being exposed to that moisture source. The pit always has water but set 4 inches from the top and rarely runs, 2x per month

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před 2 lety +1

      No, but it is impossible in my house. I had a sub slab system put in. So, my walls are hollow block. So, any water coming in drains down to the bottom of the wall down to the footer. They drill tons of weep holes on the bottom of the first row of the block that rests on the footer. The water then drains into a channel on the footer and goes to the enclosed sump system. Also, and water coming up from ground under slab goes right into channel too. I have triple sumps for backup and a whole house generator even if power goes out. The basement has been bone dry since I had the system put in over a decade ago (its in my first O gauge Layout video).
