  • Game Room O Scale Display Layout Part 1 - Design and Beginning Construction
Lionel O scale trains have been around for decades. Dan's grandfather had a large Lionel collection, and Dan's dad had a train as well.
When it came time to design a display layout for Dan & Nichole's game room, they decided it would be fun to use 3 rail O scale.
The entire room has been a project, and Dan & Nichole did a lot of the work themselves. This room is eventually going to house a pool table, gaming consoles, TVs, and even a vintage pinball machine!
The train is going to be up on a shelf near the ceiling. The track plan is a simple squared-off oval around the walls. There are no turnouts or anything fancy.
Dan is using Lionel Fastrack to build this layout. This is a high-quality prefabricated track system that should make the track installation easy once the shelves are built.
But before the shelves go in, Dan shows how he figured out how and where to mount the shelves using two different types of brackets.
This program covers some of the work done on the game room, planning the layout, mounting the shelf brackets, and beginning construction of the shelves.
Though this is an O scale layout, the techniques used could be used for an around-the-ceiling display layout in just about any scale.
Join us for some O scale model railroading fun!

"A man can't own too many clamps !!!" You can use again on use them on the backdrops and layout front pieces. Nice work. Glad to see the ladies getting involved.👍👍

I'm sure I'll use those clamps over and over, which is why I didn't mind going out and getting a few more. It's great to have so much support from Nichole and her mom. Thanks for watching!

This is a great project Dan. You are right about the fact that you can never have too many clamps. Course the same is true for rolling stock and locomotives 🙂

Yes, for sure. I'm anxious to run the train and see how it works. The layout is basically finished now but we still haven't run it. Nichole wants to do some kind of on camera celebration. It should be fun. Thanks for watching!

Awesome. I love that you're taking us along for the ride in the construction of the game room. Would also love to see more the O scale stuff you have in future. :)

I'm glad you're enjoying the process. I actually only have about one train's worth of O scale equipment, so you will very likely see all of it once the layout is running. Thanks for watching!

Have fun cleaning the track up there! Haha. You do awesome work. Looks great so far. And did you say.. TV’s? As in more than one? If you install a pool table I’ll be there opening night. Can’t wait to see more progress!

I have a nice step ladder, which should help with the track cleaning... LOL. We're planning to put in three TVs (relocating a couple from elsewhere in the house) in there along with our Xboxes. Both Nichole and her mom are gamers so that way we all should be able to play in there at the same time. And yes, there is a pool table. Nichole's mom has one that used to be in a billiard hall. We want to put it back together once we have the floor in. She's got an old pinball machine, too. I'll probably do a video on the room itself once we get it all put together. Thanks for watching!

Well, I have never had any TT (and am not planning on getting into that). The O thing started because I have one old Lionel train that was my dad's, and then I started getting a couple cars... Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Thanks for watching!

Dagnabbit Dan that was some Great Content This is what Dudes like to watch when setting in the little Dudes Room we Guys we like to Think.! Think of our next Adventure & doing it watching a Great Video is a Great starting point.. And Now it's time to finish up some Business.. O by the way Sir our kitty Cats 🐈 love Hi places to walk & be above there pray if your little Guys see 👀 that up there & they're Very Curious, possibly very jealous & can sometimes out smart there Owners they'll use the Railroad as there Cat Walk, hopefully you don't leave to come back home & see them up there staring you down & meowing hey Humon why did you not tell me about this cool contraption..
My cat turd he got himself into wii bit a trouble I thought it was wise to put him into our backporch bedroom it was just right for a cat he had his water, food & litter box but he paid me back in full up on my Tool cart was my toolbox full of Snap-On sockets and Ratches just a small set, The tool box was open & my new $1.40 at that time in 86 was my Nike shoes for school they wasn't even broken in yet they had that New shoe fragrance but it didn't last long turd did a tinkled on my shoes and in my tool box as a pay back for putting him in that Room he got me Verry Good..

We're glad you're enjoying the videos. Maybe fortunately for us, the game room is in a detached structure not accessible to our cats, so I think the O scale shelf should be safe enough. Our cats haven't ruined any of our clothes, fortunately, though one has taken out a few dog beds (we have one older dog too). I had a couple of cats years ago that made it about as long as yours did. It was so hard to let them go, and I think about them often, too. Thanks for watching and for sharing your story!

The curved piece looks great Dan! What kind of clamps did you end up buying?

    • @DanielCortopassi
      @DanielCortopassi  Před 2 lety +1

I got some Jorgensen 12 inch bar clamps from Lowes. They are perfect for my 8 inch shelves. I had a couple larger bar clamps already, but they're super long and a little cumbersome to use in tight quarters. Thanks for watching!

that fastrack is SO loud. I would plan on a sound barrier under the track.

    • @DanielCortopassi

I've heard that from a couple people now. I am definitely planning to put something down under the track. Thanks for the suggestion!
