United Cutlery Tomahawk M48 (handle broke a few weeks after video)

  • During the video test it performed well! Nice design also!
Unfortunately the handle broke only a few weeks later by throwing towards a wooden target made of firwood! Strong aluminum handles would be a good alternative. The head`s still fine!

Good demo. You spoke a few minutes, showed off it's sharpness, toughness, and chopping in several tests and you move flawlessly from English to German. Great video and makes me want to buy an M48 tonight.

This tomahawk is not meant for utility, it's meant to be light and fast for fighting. If you want something for chopping you need something like the Smith and Wesson E&E Tomahawk, It's full tang and almost an half inch thick! It's more for utility purposes. But good video and awesome mustache!

2cr13 is a stainless steel which is often used for blades manufactured in asia (china) ... it´s a durable steel which is easy to sharpen , but it doesn´t hold his edge very long ....
aus 6 is a high carbon steel , which is mostly used as a blade steel , because it is very durable , holds his edge very long and is with a little effort relatively easy to sharpen ...

Yeah, he is right about that hooking point at the bottom. It might look cool, but its dangerous for a combat hawk. When you fight at close range with one, you want to be able to slam hour hand forward down the shaft of the handle without having to worry about skewering yourself.

Spike is intended for punching through armor. Kevlar is not easily cut, but a well placed swing should punch through a kevlar helmet. The spike simply has less surface area and thus will not "bite" as much into the kevlar creating drag which lessens impact. Simple brute force penetration in a concentrated area.

It's not an RMJ, but for the price not bad. Sure beats 400 bucks for a kestrel. A lot of these are marketed as self defense weapons or breaching tools for military. Which is why they tend to come knife sharp. Seems like they are getting more popular outside the US as well.

The ones that our military typically choose (since they are not issued) have them, its in the case you over strike you still do damage, they are trained in the use of the whole edge by outside specialists. If you don't feel its necessary why not get a nice GB hatchet? little more expensive, but its forged steel instead of soft 420 stainless.
