Hey thanks, buddy! And thanks for the field report, I'm glad to know that both of these hawks have been working well for you!
Great review man! Thanks a lot for the info! Keep it up! You are doing great work!
Thanks, my friend!
The handle is FRN, so it is basically the same material used in all the hawks around this price range, aside from the wooden ones. They'll never be cro bars.
I have both the SOG and the M48 hawks.I like both. The M48 is a great chopper, took it camping last week end and it work great.Nice to throw to,threw at a big old dead tree.
the SOG hawk worked well to. I paid $ 45.00 bucks for the M48 from Cheaper than dirt
and $20.00 bucks for the SOG at WAL-MART. Like the video!!
I wouldn't want to be a block of wood around your house. Trees tremble at the mention of your name. Love your videos, especially the demonstrations. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I'm a lumberjack
Thanks, what do you think of the Trench Hawk? I have an Estwing Carpentry Hatchet you might like, it is very solid and heavy.
I'm probably the only person that would prefer a hammer pole rather than a spike. Thanks for the video!
That Ranger Hawk M48 they have now with the paracord handle and green or desert color looks pretty good for the price. They are both stainless steel, I think I'd get the longer hawk first just in general
Cool, glad it is working for ya.
That is the great thing about hawks and machetes, can get all three of these hawks for less than my Spyderco Millie cost me, oh yeah!
Thanks, and thanks for the info, its always good to hear people's experiences with different gear
I just got one of there machetes recently, 22 inch blade, orange D-Guard handle, I will review it eventually, going to have the edge reprofiled first though.
Yeah the new colors are cool.
What a coincidence! I was just about to order one when i saw this in my sub box!
I want this for Christmas! DAMN that is AWESOME!
LOL my friends dad actually got him one
So I was wondering if this tomahawk would be nice to have when camping and using it in particular for chopping up firewood. This answered my question, thanks for the video.
Excellent
Thanks, welcome!
Just found your channel! Defiantly subbing!
Very good review.. I think i'll pick up one or two of these next week.. Are their any others you would recommend other than these 3?
no problem man keep up the good work
ive seen the sog tomahawk break on zombie go boom..... i have the m48 and i love it! Also for the purpose of smashing skulls and tearing flesh this would work perfectly. i wouldnt use it to cut wood though... if u want to cut wood go get a good axe from home depot.
thank you, buddy!
Cool, I don't have the Trail Hawk but I do have their Spike Hawk which is kind of similar.
i have owned both for throwing and camping and my m48s broke but the sog fast hawks are still here simply because of the safety sleeve around the neck. good vid
Usually the SOG, because the pointy spike on the Ranger is often (though not always!) more a hindrance to the user. The SOG's spike is rounded, it will crush cinder block or bone just as well, but won't slice you open if it brushes your arm or leg. But I admit the M48 does look better.
Amazon and Knifeworks have them available! Enjoy!
Cool, I want to try out the spear.
Not too differently, it just doesn't have the beard tip for the cool strike down onto the top of the skull move.
I would usually prefer this one because it is longer, so it will hit harder. The steels are both cheaper stainless, so they are equal in that regard. The backspike on this is a little more dangerous to the user than the one on the Voodoo. I like that this has a lanyard hole, whereas the SOG doesn't.
I use tomahawks for camping, but I always considered the type of hawks you show here as a combat, type of hawk. I have a few hawks, but all but one are a poll axe type of hawks. I do have one Vietnam era combat hawk, and I never thought about taking it camping w/ me. I will take it with me next time though. Thanks Israel
I do have a Fasthawk too, it is a lot smaller, so probably not the best thing as a weapon. But if you need a short light handy camp tool the Fasthawk is nice.
Yeah totally, I mean a $35 item with not be indestructible, but as a handy camp tool it is a good value.
I've seen pictures of it, yes
It will chip if used against steel. The black finish has lasted pretty well on mine.
the m48 looks mean, but i like the way the voodoo took apart those blocks. awesome
Awesome tool
I would love to see you review a coldsteel viking axe! Don't get me wrong, the M48 kicks butt!
Thanks Herb. Yes, it shouldn't be as sharp as a knife, unless you only want to use it as a weapon. The angle of the edge should be wider than on a folding knife, but overall I'm not an expert on 'hawk re-sharpening, just search around on youtube a bit, there's a tutorial on everything.
I love this thing. Want a sog fasthawk next.
ooo man the head on that thing looks sick
oh snap!
Cool yeah sometimes Walmart has those SOGs for way less than amazon
Strange. The handle is just FRN, same material as the other hawks in the same price range. About the spike, maybe strong sideways force could hurt it, but I slammed it into the wood harder than a throw would have, so I wouldn't worry too much
Rarely have I wanted something SOOO much!
There must be, but I'm not sure which ones do.
have you ever considered climbing using the back spikes? you have two of these now and it would be interesting to see how well those hold up
The handle or the head?
I like the steel on the Estwing better than this one. People have mentioned RMJ hawks a lot, but I think the price would put them out for reach for most regular guys watching.
NIce video and this is my outdoor test SOG AXE
Тест тактического томагавка SOG
Hey thanks, bro.
How would you rank this against the SOG F18-N Voodoo Hawk?
Like: the rounded blade on the M48 vs. the straight blade on the SOG, the different spike designs and different handle lengths and blade to handle fittings, witch would you prefer? I know there are a few reviews out there on bough of these hawks, but no one has put one up one too the other.
A fasthawk costs about the same as the M48. if you had to decide one or the other for 1 purpose as a tool and 2 purpose as a weapon. which one would you take in either category?
I'm looked for halberds but all the ones I've found were un-sharpened, more for reenactment shows. I think the Vatican Guards still use halberds lol
Are you going to add all the new additional M48 spear, axe, and war hammer to your collection as well?
would you ever test an rmj talon hawk? Also I know you already reviewed the estwing hawk, but in comparison to your others how do you like it?
M48 is the best budget knives you can get in my opinion.
Have you done a review on the S&W Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk? I've been looking into those for a while now, but there aren't really any good reviews of it on CZcams that I have seen.
No. It looks like a strong hawk but I just have not gotten around to acquiring one of those yet.
have you done a reviews on the Ontario military machete before, and could you do a review on their heavy duty machete as well, I have Out and freaking love it, got it for forty dollars at an army surplus store, worth every penny
I have the SOG hawk and ive given it hell and its stood up to everything. Cant say anything about the M48 though
It is kind of like a double edge on a knife, has some advantages but can bite ya.
Nice work for a leftie. I like that thing. Been thinking of getting one. I might carry it under the seat of my car just in case I have to chop up a tree limb. LOL
How heavy is it?
I lke the hooked end in the hatchet, that would work really well where youi need to hook something and pull it outof the way.
What is the welight difference with the SOG?
Looks like a reall useful tool for Zombie elimination.
I have purchased the Destroyer model for a backup weapon. I have my Fiskers X7 for woodcraft.
The Destroyer looks pretty interesting, might try one.
really helpful man but ill go with the M48 apocalypse tomahawk for the paracord and maybe paint it black.
Probably the longest one, you don't want to get too close to zombies!
Did u have to sharpen it or did it come sharp from the manufacturer
I chopped an 8" cured oak log in half in 3 minutes with my M48 ranger hawk yesterday.
The only problem I have seen with these is sometimes that has catastrophic failures. Being cast I have seen spikes completely snap off. I have seen on two occasions where the blade side has had a chunk cracked out of it.
I have owned one of these myself for a long time and have used it a lot. Mine has been good and has never failed me. But I would be wrong if I didn't state that those failures are always in the back of my mind.
Most of the M48 line is cast now. That should not mean it is bad. Ruger uses investment cast as well and their firearms are some of the strongest in the industry.
I hope none of my M48 stuff ever fails. I love some of their designs.
And if I am ever attacked by a tree stump or 2X4 I know my M48 tomahawk will help me win the day.
Yeah definitely, I've seen some picture of broken cast blades. It's a budget compromise, I just make sure to never be in the line of fire so to speak, I stand off to the side when chopping with it.
Iz!! Im trying to sharpen my M48 (I FINALLY got one!!!!:)
I understand that it should be blade/knife sharp. Is that right? Im using my LANSKY 25 degree carbon rods and it isnt working very well. I lost my 'touch' with a shapening stone so I am limited as to what I can use. You have any suggestions on angle, how sharp and method? Thanks Amigo, Scouts OUT!!
(Turned my son Brandon on to your channel, he will be here shortly :)
I have this tomahawk and you can not beat it for the price. I also have the spear which is very easy to weild and would be deadly in combat.
Thank you forma video
I suggest the M48 ranger hawk instead. Has the paracord and a compass. Plus it isn't a highly noticeable bright color.
Got one on amazone for like 20ish bucks dont need it but it looks cool
Would you suggest the SOG Fast Hawk or the M48 Ranger Hawk?
There is the same tomahawk on aliexpress for 10 dollar is it any good??
The Cold Steel OSS or Blackhawk UK-SFK
do you like this or the cold steel trench hawk better
I blunted the back spike on mine but that's ok because know I don't have to worry about that any more I hit what I with it, within reason of course
Thank you.
Field-Tested? Do you have Factory New?
its like Excalibur!
have you used budk? if you have do you recommend using it?
I really like the m48 but it broke after the first week as I have had the sog for almost a year and is amazing and the big difference is the sog has a lifetime warranty.... plus I do a lot a throwing with my tomahawks and i think the sog is much better for that and breaching
I shall
What's about lateral stress, how much good the handle is it?
Not sure what the weight differences are, but it's pretty light. I think this would be excellent for sending those "tree limbs" to hell LOL
Hey, Israel; have you seen the M48's new bigger brother yet?
YOLO!
Lock breaking is a huge component to breaching. This hawk is great for cqb but that sharp spike is not necessarily the best for entry. Simple, semi sharp or even dull spikes like the one on the SOG work better over and over. Trench Hawk is better. Fire Axe in a can we used to call it.
Is the M48 Kommando hawk better? or SOG voodoo hawk better?
Did you sharpen it prior to testing?
how good is it in a torture test ( like big time)
Neighbor has one. The haft split vertically along where the screws go through the tang.
+Jesse W he was unlucky then ive had mine for 3 years and beat the shit out of it,and its still going strong
want it now
dam that does some damage !
I prefer the M48 slightly.
m48 or sog voodoo? which and why? (aside from price)
I was thinking about the soldiers in those trenches in WWI, man they went toe to toe and hand To Hand Combat with the Germans. Those old knuckle buster trench knives were ok I guess but they sure could have used some of THESE HaWKS to dispatch an enemy, even with a helmet on.I WONDER why no one ever thought of these? Take care,This old SCOUTS OUT!
Wow thanks!
Welcome!
