- This is an unboxing and test of my new M48 Tactical Tomahawk by United Cutlery. I was Impressed with the amount of steel in the head of the hawk, but a little letdown with the sheath and handle.
This is in no way a video for or against the M48 Tactical Tomahawk, just my personal experience with it. - Sport
You made my eyes burn when you were smacking the metal sheet.
Really great video. Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow and you pretty much answered all the questions I had.
As soon as I realize it was your video, Mer, I watched it, I really enjoy your video, and I do have a United older hawk, we use it for throwing practice in camp, over coffee, it's still in one piece.
I'd take Molle over leather anyday, Kydex is obviously a stronger option. It's also gonna add another $40-$60 onto the price tag. The sheath this product came with is superb in my opinion. Fits into the belt well, protects the wearer, and for weighing next to nothing is also very weather resistant. For $40 you can't beat this damn thing.
Great Video! Thanks for uploading
I'm impressed the spike held up so good when hitting metal
I'm honestly a little divided on the inside. I really want to buy one of these (big fan of the edge/spike combo; already been thinking about what I can do with that), but every comment section on it is literally split 50/50 between "it sucks" and "it's awesome," with just a few saying "it's average."
As a straightforward, unbiased response, would anyone (not) recommend this for me?
As someone with a range of weaponry and experience in owning multiple tomahawks aswell i would definitely grant this to be a good item to get your hands on. So if you do go ahead and get this fine piece of work, Enjoy!
Really like that you where not afraid to use this on a dense metal to prove axe can hold up. Just was wondering though how well it imbedded in a target when thrown? And how well does it stack up in sharpening or edge retention?
why would you completely dull your spike by hiting a metal sheet like 1/4 inch thick
to demo it...
understandable....but still I'm sure it wasn't meant for metal
Notice Thee
United Cutlery advertising shows the spike penetrating metal, thin sheet metal, so it is meant for metal just not quarter inch thick, but I found the test useful because it showed the strength of the spike tip when hitting solid metal...
I'm sure they were just showing its strength not telling you hey this is meant for metal. like a knife commercial will cut through a soda can but its not meant for that.
I might get this but ill get the neon model because I don't want to loose it
Great review.. very cool
I just bought one, but i have to say that i'm not fan of the handle at all, i will replace it, but the head is just bad ass, nice video, great job
thanks
I got one I like the handle its met for throwing not chopping wood
Perhaps you need to take a look at my tactical axe modifications... For increased throwing accuracy and all around performance ;)
Nice review the M48 does seem like a good deal for the price. Would be interesting to see how the M48 does at basic camp work, like splitting wood, making feather sticks and stakes, etc. It kind of looks like a miniature Trench Hawk...
They the same size
Why beat the spike into .25" steel.
Wow that's cool
very good video and commentary
you do better review than the people that sell these
thanks
I have this, dang srsly its super sharp outta the box, too sharp almost. I take mine boar hunting as a woods back up to my Bowie knife. Love the M48. Youve gotta try one to understand how good they feel.

I’m thinking of getting one.
How sharp would you say it is? I’m hoping it to be sharp but would it cut the flesh of a human? It’d be a bit badass if it’s super sharp lol.
I bought one with the karambit both cool but I was thinking of making my own handle too out of stainless, and the sheath sux mine blew out already, overall good. Sharpen the spike tho
I got mine at academy for $30 something. The sheath came with 5 buttons. the chopping edge is not sharp at all, but still, if I needed to I get could get in and out of places that I need to.
should you recomend the m48 hawk or the cold steel pipe hawk
Say Heah Mer, great video on products Bro, Thanx.
I like my cold steel trench hawk. I normally throw at pine post, or cedar wood.
you could always buy more handles on the united cutlery website.
I purchased 3 of these Tomohawks and two have broken on me. The head is great, but two handles have clean snapped from throwing them say a couple of hundred times each at a tree. It just takes one miss throw and that can be the end of it. Just need to make my own handles out of a tougher material and this will be a great weapon.
TheRustyMusket
Is the axe part sharp?
Are you from Texas? Because of the Cactuses and i can hear a slight accent i think.
Sorry if i'm wrong but i'm just curious.
My tactical axe designs are revolutionary ;)
Nice vid, you got the shit out of this thing. I was not sure between the SOG and the M48.
You convince me. Thanks
What's your fetish with full tang? It's a damn axe..
Gabreshaa full tang is better. You're fucking stupid....
Gabreshaa Full tang usually means that its a hell of a lot more reliable.
good for the money... not like you paid $400+ for an RMJ Tactical... looking fwd to gettin mine.. and yea... i'll do the paracord wrap on the handle for sure!
nice video
Did you change the handle?
SOG makes pretty good tomahawk ive used it for alot of stuff around the woods and when i go throwing and the handle is pretty sturdy
Ide opt for the SOG Voodoo hawk before the UC M48...better design, better balance, better steel....same price point.
Don't buy sog I have their fast hawk and its junk the handle is thin kryton and the edge is extremely hard to sharpen the point of it is dull and too thick to sharpen without a grinder and its the same steel cr123 stainless steel less of an edge width as well. This m48 is nicer that it has a sharp point and it has a wide beard to help hit the target and the voodoo hawk is $65us even on amazon unless you buy it used. The m48 also uses a common wrench tool to tighten the sog hawks use a star wrench harder to find and their more costly had to buy on for furnace work and to repair the sog hawk that loosened after three target hits
You bought from the wrong person then cause my fast hawk is top notch it bent a little after at least we'll over 300 very rigorous throws. Have to be careful with amazon sometimes the products can be fake learned that after buying my SEAL PUP
JOHANNA'S AXE! O_O
Thanks
como consigo una de esas
what steel is used on this axe?
5 dollar conceal carry for self defense seems like a nice deal
ofc it is called King Sea Tactical Axe Tomahawk in china stores
Did you ever make the new handle haha
The cheap knockoffs are made in the same factory just as good, just no stamps.
The handle makes for less vibration
its a pretty good head but my handle broke off second day throwing. I didnt even hit anything that was hard.
I bought this and the warhammer awhile ago and upon hitting a tree with the warhammer at moderate speed it snapped just below the 3 bolts, the handles suck.
thats where mine broke. it seem that since they are injection molded they end up with bubbles of air at that spot
just a hello ,, nice video
.
its op i buyd it i love it so op
DIY Hatchets don't look as nice, but they're a lot less suspicious for self defense. In case you have to use it, it's easier to claim that is was just a legitimate tool lying there...
1/4" steel.....right out of the gate! you proved it is worth buying in the first 10 seconds.....off screen! lol
Allot of things wong with this test. Not meant for metal. Doesnt matter what handle you have it will vibrate hitting metal. Doesnt matter what hatchet you have hard weatherd wood it wont go through well. Not a real blade person in my mind. Probly the type that would hit the edge of a knife on a rock and be surprised when it broke
I had one and it slit in half after 1 month do not get it
this one or pipe hawk
Bom dia !!!
I got myne for 32 on Amazon
The funny thing is that befor watch this video ther was an add for a hatchet

czcams.com/video/QIFoHN62Xmk/video.html
that is a axe
Sorry, its just that I dont speak a lot of english
En español sólo sería un hacha y eso no más :v
Why does every body chop with it buy a fuckin axe I wanna a throwing test
My chiping hammer for my arc welds can put a bigger dint into a piece of metal than that thing.
Its not meant to puncture 1/4 inch steel fkn LOL but look at the point, still sharp as! Yeah your chipping hammer couldnt take a limb off with one swing and doesnt look nearly as cool as this haha, get back to work, I should too =(
Haha true
put a cord rap
hey i got one of those
its horrible to watch that when you hit to that metal thing whit it.
32 bucks at my local academy
It did throwing this us a bad because it for throwing
Umm it's amazing for throwing for me maybe your just bad
+unicorn-killa-53 *you're
This is the worst tomahawk you can get, the handle breaks easily. The sheath is about as good as a cardboard and I would never recommend anyone to buy this because it is prone to breakage leading to safety issues. I say save your 40 dollars and get your a full tanged hawk. As for breaching, a tomahawk is for disabling a vehicle not breaching into one. A simple glass punch to smash through the glass is all you need to get into a car.
鉄板は無理ですね。特記すべきは切っ先が丈夫だということ。
one does not simply make a tomahawk "testing" video and not throw the damn thing...cmon dude...
This looks more like factory new ...
Dark knight
I can make something 100% stronger by hand.
Full tang on a tomahawk is what you expect? I'm out.
What only 1.647 subcribers haha
wow you and your 3 told me...
You are weak my friend, a power strike can penetrate such thick iron plate.
No, first off, you need a better understanding of physics, the 30 foot sheet gave a springing effect, that takes out some of the penetration power. Second I chose it with the springiness to place more stress on the handle to see if it would take it, as well to see the penetration. Third, any harder would have probably broke the handle...
Thanks for stopping by though
