Same here, I always found him pretty adorable. He was a memorable mascot and his shape shifting animations were pretty cute

The best thing about Clippy was he charmed my coworkers and they started asking him the basic Office questions they would otherwise ask me over and over.
I will admit that I did spend a couple of hours once trying to find all the shapes. Then I turned spent a couple of minutes looking at the others, then turned them off.
I never saw the big deal, I found the 'off' switch easily enough.

Clippy always reminded me of myself. Always had a smile on his face but was he really happy? Always trying to help others, just to be shoved to the side and hated while trying to fill the void

Clippy and his band of assistants were the face of 98 and was part of our childhoods.
I loved Clippy. :( He wasn't irritating to me. I missed him when they got rid of him. I also loved that dog that you could ask to search and find stuff for you. He would sniff around like he was following a scent trail. Cute and functional!

I loved Clippy when I was a child. I never used him, I never asked anything, but seeing him there move and do stuff here and there make everything feel less lonely.
Only 90’s kids remember needing to type out their assignments but they end up spending their entire study time right clicking clippy and then clicking “Transform”

I think they sacked Clippy only because it’s dumb to have glass sound on tft displays.
I would always turn Clippy on first thing back in those days. I liked it, MP3 music was just coming around with Napster and videos were still very primitive and short, and dial-up made streaming stuff practically impossible. So he provided a fun distraction from the monotony of staring at a computer screen for hours with just an AM/FM radio blaring, I'd click on Clippy when I was bored and it still made it appear I was working.

I love Clippy. He appeared at the time when I started gaming - but without the money to buy games, or even a computer powerful enough to play the then current games. Seeing an interactive animated character on the screen scratched the gaming itch a little bit.

Thanks to Clippy I actually learned to use office as a kid. It was fun. All of these animations and suggestions it was really fun to write something in word.
I remember Clippy, he was in every install of Office on our schools computers. Fun fact, computer hard drives back then were severely limited in capacity, so it was common practice, to not install the full office suit. While there were other Office assistant variations, they were on the software CD, and you needed that to install them.
I remembered that character. I didn't like Him much. But, then again I found myself asking it for help from time to time. LOL

Yeah!... I fadely remember a jumping dog and a clown popping on whenever I tried to do something.

Clippy actually started a fun program trend in this era. which is the animated desktop characters (dont know what the actual name is) which i used to download and install many at once to watch them go around on my desktop. its actually pretty entertaining even for today.
Clippy was pretty cool. Why the hate? You could disable it anyway.

Aside from Clippy that I used to click the animate button thing. Windows dancer, pops in the corner and dance while you play your music through windows media player. It even tries to dance by system sounds like errors and beeps.
The saddest thing is that I was born in 2004 and I somehow still remember clippy from school.
