  • Preah Vihear is a 9th century temple complex atop a 500 meter high mountain on the border between Cambodia and Thailand. Following the temple's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, Thailand claimed that part of the access route to the temple complex lay within its borders, making the temple inaccessible from Cambodia. A dispute - briefly violent - ensued between the two countries. In 2013, the International Court of Justice ruled in favor of Cambodia's claim, and the site was reopened to visitors.

    Oops! Thanks to David P for the correction; I had previously stated erroneously in the first sentence of the description above that the Preah Vihear temple complex is on the border between Cambodia and Vietnam. It isn't, of course; it's on the border with Thailand, as the video itself clearly shows.

    I haven't been to Preah Vihear but, I hear that the heat and humidity is absolutely brutal. None the less, I will give this a go

      It depends on what time of the year you go there. From November to February it's not too hot, and the rainy season is over.

    obviously, the architecture element of that temple is khmer-champa, not tai

    • @abmong
      @abmong Před 4 lety

      It's not so clear. Tai peoples were part of the Ancient Khmer Empire before becoming independent. Early Tai/Siamese architecture copied heavily from Khmer style. Later the Siamese developed their own style and Cambodia copied those, you can see it in the later Wats and Palaces in the two counties.
      The same way the Romans copied and developed on earlier Greek architecture. Early Roman, Etruscan and other southern mediterranean styles were practical indistinguishable from Greek styles.

    It's pretty far out there, is it worth visiting?

    • @DonaldRallis
      @DonaldRallis  Před 9 lety

      dan8 I thought it was definitely worth visiting. It's a 2-3 hour trip each way from Siem Reap, but the temple is interesting, its location is beautiful and, as you see in the video, when I was there there weren't too many other people around (unlike Angkor.)

      I'll pay a visit the next time I visit Cambodia. There were so many ruins in Siem Reap that there was no time to visit such distant ones.

It is recorded as Sanskrit language in Yasovarman I reign by indigenous people philosopher ( Kuy people ) lived surrounding the Preah vihear temple 1,000 year ago and Takeo inscription in Siemreap province from Cambodia in content same about Jayavarman II events.The Sivasakti inscription started that has city ruler was surrounding before built preah vihear temple. She is Pinsvankramvati mother of the queen consort of Jayavarman II. The Sivasakti recorded that conquer of Jayavarman II over indigenous people or Kuy people. He has married to a lady Kuy people .The original of named her Ms.Pavitra or Teng Pavitra in Kuy language afterward was changed for new culture as Kampuchalaksmi.She got son Dhammawatthana named after she has passed away were recorded in Preah Ko inscription as Sri Dharanindradevi.
