    I definetely like these instructional videos. I'm only playing in this amateur league where tackles and slap shots aren't allowed (because people would propably die) so wrist shot, snap shot AND especially the back hand shot technique (which I didn't have at all) are definetly broken really nice into pieces and easy-to-remember steps. Slow motion also helped alot. Only played a couple of years as a junior, but they didn't cover the shooting technique anywhere near this good. Great job!

    Your shoulder is pointed at the net (just one), so chest facing the boards. This sets you up to draw the puck across your body and get a lot more power. You can use your entire body to generate power, your legs, arms, torso, and get more weight transfer. With your chest facing the net (shown in another video) you will use mostly arms and focus mostly on a quick release. I describe that shot in my snapshot video.

  • @howtohockeytraining
    @howtohockeytraining  Před 11 lety +1

    For the slapshot I have it half way down, snapshot a few inches higher than that, and wrist shot a little higher. It all depends on how well you can load the stick, and like you said everyone develops their own style.

    how do you like the Gx8? I found one on the discount rack at my local store about a year ago and loved it, but couldn't find them without purchasing them online after that (I need to see and feel my stick before I pay for it, online shopping is not for me). Since then I've been using mostly prostocks, usually RS or Vapor x60, but I've never forgotten the Winnwell. One of the best weight/durability combos for a relatively cheap price

    I was watching another video earlier and they were saying to not move the top hand very much (as opposed to pulling back on it in your video). I have noticed amateur players make good looking shots without moving the top hand much. What are the pros and cons of both approaches, quickness verses power or something?

  • @howtohockeytraining
    @howtohockeytraining  Před 11 lety +1

    That's a good way to start learning and get a feel for the puck, but don't be afraid to start with the puck in the middle. Once you get better start and finish from the toe, a good number of pro's shoot with all toe, but you need to learn how to use the stick and blade first.

  • @1lucasvan1

    What's weird, I've watched so many videos and still couldn't shoot. So, started to think why is my stick going under the puck and just fluttering the puck weakly through the air? So, I started realizing you have to do everything in a continuous motion, not a sporadic wrist flicking motion. Your stick has to maintain contact with the puck while shooting it. I know this sounds stupid, but I started to think of it as throwing the puck with my stick and following through, keeping the puck on my stick until releasing it the last split second, after you've generated enough momentum with the puck on your stick. So throwing the puck with your stick, not shooting it is how I see it now.

    You explain very well,,,You dissect properly which is useful for beginners...what is funny is that "Wrist shot" translates by "slide shot" in French (from France not Canada...) and "Snapshot" translates by "wrist shot" in French...Oddly enough I always used more my wrist on a snapshot than on a wrist shot so I do not understand why English use this term..that is a mystery
