Scott Stewart's supernatural thriller Legion, scripted by Peter Schink, concerns a group of strangers in an out-of-the-way eatery who become the first line of defense when God, believing the human race is no longer worthy of Him, decides to end their existence. Even powered down, Michael was still a challenge for Gabriel due to his fighting skills. It shows that when he was at full strength before loosing his wings, Michael was the superior warrior angel.

The tear when Gabriel said "now you'll die like one of them" had me shook because I had forgotten until then that Michael is Gabriel's brother and the Gabriel never wanted to kill Michael, and was forced to kill his own brother.

Gabriel was wrong from the very beginning! he was so unbelievably intent on carrying out anything god asked of them that he couldn’t see the orders for what they were, a *TEST*…. Michael understood wholeheartedly from the beginning that the orders were wrong. In the movie there’s a scene when michael and gabriel are in heaven in which michael can be seen questioning the orders and deeply conflicted about carrying them out! gabriel in the same scene literally says
-Gabriel: “This is not your test, michael. How dare you presume to know his heart?”.
Michael replies: “Because he made this one. And it tells me he shouldn’t lose faith now.”
This dialogue exchange is the most important part because it shows how blind gabriel is by his misplaced obedience! moreover how conflicted michael felt knowing such orders go against everything he knows. In the end the look on gabriel’s face as michael spares his life is the face of a son who knows he f@$ked up royally.
It get sadder as you have to remember that both Michael and Gabriel are archangels and have been around since the war in heaven, and both were probably traumatised as a result (Michael becoming rather morose and thoughtful and Gabriel becoming more rule-abiding and determined not to fail).
Gives a layer of depth to both characters at this point in their journeys, especially in this scene. In fact whos to say that the movie was to heal his hurting sons with a test that asked them to step into dofferent roles (Michael being in Lucifers shoes as a rebel and fallen angel, and Gabriel's in Michael's).

I love their depiction of Angel's. Their brotherhood and comradeship it's beautiful. Gabriel didn't want to fight let alone kill Michael and visa versa. Then when he had to kill Michael you can tell it deeply broke his heart but he had to follow his father's will. It's a great scene but a sad one too. The acting here in this scene was fantastic.

He was not sent there to kill Michael but to kill the baby, so Gabriel was also doing what he wanted to do exactly like Michael so god sent Michael back down to earth. And that’s exactly why god was disappointed with Gabriel. He didn’t show his brother any mercy he didn’t have to kill him he could’ve just wounded him. His mission was never to kill Michael in the movie..

I always felt it made far more sense if Paul Bettany was Gabriel, and the dark angel was Michael. Gabriel is the one more sympathetic to humans, and Michael is the war-like one.
celestialchik which is why it's such a good twist. God, in this movie, took advantage of that and made Michael try to be the asshole but he didn't want to so he sent his other angel to do what he couldn't

This is how angels should fight in Supernatural. No human can stand against them. The only reason why Michael was able to stand a chance was because of his years of experience training and incredible reflexes. Sam and Dean would be destroyed if they fought against angels like Gabriel.

Constant cuts though
This was ten years ago, ffs, what's stopping the movie companies to making more movies like this? Gods and Demons fighting it out, perhaps a Greek lore movie. Or a live action God Of War.
Right before Gabriel cries, you can see him observing Michael from head to toe. He must of never seen Michael wounded so badly before. You could tell he really didn't want to kill his brother. Michael felt in his heart from heaven, that they were both being tested and he told Gabriel this. He warned him but Gabriel's ignorance got the best of him. All he ever wanted was for Gabriel to be the best which Gabriel turned out to be but for the wrong reason in the end. Imagine how many battles these two have been through together, and the entire time Michael pushing Gabriel to be the best from the inside out meanwhile. I think when Gabriel did become a badass because of his brother Michael that's when he let it get to his head, and that's when God finally tested him against Michael. Gabriel forgetting that Michael taught him pretty much everything he knows. Gabriel's a badass but I think God just didn't want him forgetting that he was sinning too by getting too far ahead of himself in this.
From my perspective, the reason why Michael defied God was that he (Michael) believed that every person should be given a chance to live life before being judged, and maybe even thought that by doing what he did, the child might not be the vessel for the Antichrist after all. Maybe not ignorance, but compassion and love for humanity.
For the year that this movie was made, it's actually pretty good. One of my favorites. (Just because of this scene)
It's biggest weaknesses are the decisions the characters make and the angels basically being a supernatural version of the crazies, they could have done some more interesting stuff with the concept.

After Gabriel stabbed Michael, I honestly can’t believe that Gabriel cared so deeply about Michael. It made me cry as well.
That scene with him tearing up is burned into my brain, he's such an incredible actor that I'm drawn to him. He's in a movie? It must be good, why would he want to be apart of it, if it wasn't good?
Kevin Durand, one of the most under appreciated Actors out there. Doesn't seem to get a lot of Movie rolls compared to brief TV appearances but even the crappy B movies he ends up in no matter the character he plays them all but perfectly.

The fact that even without his full Angelic powers and might, he stood toe to toe with Gabriel and trounced him in terms of hand to hand combat. That’s why Michael is THE Archangel.
"You wanted to live like one of them; now you'll die like one of them." You can tell he's not angry at his brother; just disappointed. Even the tears would be nothing if not accentuated by the somber tone he tells him this. Such great acting, and it really does resonate with me... But still, though! That god damn stab! Seeing Gabe stab himself to defeat Michael really sums up why I love this movie.
I do like the atmosphere after Gabe impales Michael. You can just see the conflict, anger, and utter sadness in his eyes. Gabriel just cut down his little brother who in his eyes betrayed him and the other archangels and GOD, but he still loved him. Despite that love, he still had a duty to fulfill and it was probably killing him to do what he had to do.
Reality : their husbands. Not brothers. Angels aren't related from the different structures of their DNA & light that they're made of. So think more like husbands being pivoted against one another over different ways of living mortally despite Gabriel's immortality

Christian theology and beliefs were preserved by Church tradition for 3 centuries before the Bible even existed.
