  • The Jake Origin Story: I grew up with glasses, 5.00 diopter high myopia, and yet today have 20/20 natural eyesight. No surgery, no glasses, I figured out how myopia actually works and how to reverse it (and no, not eye exercises!) The mainstream tells you it's impossible - but the whole concept that myopia is an illness, is complete unscientific nonsense (a 100 billion dollar a year profitable nonsense, though).

    Blue light myth, ignore.
    Little screen no no. Bigger screens better.
    Closer the screen more 👎
    Spend less time on screen irrespective of quality and screen size.

    I agree in most cases, however once I had such a bad monitor that it actually worsen by vision permanently. It was a low end 22" one thought. In comparison my very old Eizo 19" (PVA screen type) is easier on my eyes than a newer middle class monitors I am using in the office, so I suppose there are better and wors monitors.

    Before I've asked you if I can improve eyesight by active focusing on the screen instead of IRL stuff and you said something in the lines of "you wish". However, I'm doing that now and seems to be working. Can't give you measurements, because I've stopped logging really long time ago, before I've started doing this. However, I'm usually wearing -2.5 (both eyes) contacts when I'm at uni/work, but now because of the corona virus I don't wear them at all.
    At home I wear my old glasses (-1.5L / -1.75R) only when I'm on the PC(my monitor is 25" 1440p60 IPS, it's Dell monitor and I keep it at 0-15% brightness, if someone cares) and completely naked eyes when I'm not using it. I started to taking off the glasses even on the PC, trying to active focus and I can already see the improvement.

    Thank you so much Jake for sharing these important tips! So the bigger the screen and the father away we are from the screen, the better. But then I won’t be able to use my differentials, and have to use normalized. My question is: are the ciliary muscles more locked up when we wear differentials to watch a screen at 60 cm at the edge of door, or when we wear normalized to look at a screen 3 m away (not at the edge of blur)?

    Thanks Jake, that's an interesting and informative video, but i do have a dilemma.
    Say am holding a phone and a tablet at the same hand held distance, tablet is bigger so it reduces strain but wouldn't the large tablet screen cause more discomfort due to large areas of exposure of blue-rays ?

    Is it possible to get ciliary spasm with closeup even if you are the edge of blur or beyond?
    For example, say that I can see clearly until 50cm, and I am looking at a screen at 55+cm with some slight blur.
    Since I'm looking at the screen beyond my edge of blur, doesn't that mean my ciliary muscle is fully relaxed and I won't get spasm? Or would I will get strain from eye convergence etc.?

    This is also something i personally experienced irl that when i started watching TV a lot (thanks to the introduction of anime here) my eyesight was like -1 and i couldn't even see what was written on the blackboard in my classes, then i started using my PC which is much closer and eyesight went to -2 range and then i got a smartphone and now it's -3, i thought of using the same technique but i knew that focusing at one thing is gonna stress the ciliary muscle so I'll be making sure that doesn't happen in my journey and it's easy to tell if i did stress it out coz then i can't see the farway lights twinkling at night clearly like the night before.
    I just wanted to say thanks for sharing such valuable content with us 😊

    I guess I do have one question for you Jake. Let's say someone has a -3.00 perscription and they order a one point lower perscription of -2.99 and wear that the next day and say that same person orders a -2.98 and then -2.97 lense and they have orders for 1 point less perscriptions for each pair of lenses say all the way down to -2.0. Could a person subjugate their eyes to the smallest amount of change possible to their prescriptions wearing a one point less prescription than the day before all the way down to -2.0 and have their eyes adjusted to that prescription after like 99 days of wearing new prescriptions for each of those days?

    From my experience using amoled display on my tab s7plus. I found that i got less eyestrain almost no eyestrain (except if i get too close to the screen, to draw with my tab, in a v.long period of time) but even then, my eye strain recovery is a lot less than non amoled display that can give me eye strain for days.

    • @TheFaceZone
      @TheFaceZone Před 2 lety +1

      interesting comment. i'm curious, could you describe what is it about your amoled that feels easier on your eyes--for example the screen feels more "paper-like" or the color contrast is richer, allowing you to turn down the lighting more, or the light feels less blue...thanks so much if you're able to answer that:)

    I just saw this video and I want to mention one big issue I am having now. I used a ton of tvs and pc monitors and never had eyestrain and headaches before until one week ago I bought a Samsung 55QN90A mini led tv which is a VA panel set. The tv is reviewed by tons of sites and reviewers and generally took very good comments and ratings even they are saying it is very close to an oled screen. Anyway I tried a tons of settings about backlight, brightness, motion handling features, try it with complete daylight in the room etc.. but I cannot handle this set after maximum of 15 minutes in every scenario. With game mode with PS5 on hdr it is even worse. I am now trying to return the set but it is hard to explain this to the seller and also the manufacturer. I am waiting their desicions now about this case but actually more like I am concerning for myself. I am asking mysel is what is wrong with me. I search the internet and some people is sensitive about this new technology tv’s mostly have pulse-width modulation (pwm) and start to thinking maybe that is the reason but then I realised I bought a tv set for my mom’s house is an LG Nano 916 PA model IPS panel tv which has the pwm frequency (960hz) same with my new samsung qn55a and I used this LG about a month period with long periods of watching 4k content and PS5 games with default hdr gaming mod heavily and never had any issue about eyestrain or headaches. I am so confused that what is causing this and start to reserch internet to make something is meaningfull but until now I have no answers. I am writing this on an apple ipad air 4 which has an amoled screen I have nerver an issue, using an iphone have oled screen I have no issue, using an hp omen 165 hz 27 inch IPS monitor again no issue, but with this samsung qn90a tv set it is a nightmare to me. now I am thinking maybe it’s because of VA panel so this is the first VA panel on anything I have ever use. If any idea about or advice this problem I will be really thankfull because it is very strange and discomforting. By the way I have never had an eye issue before in my life every time when I go to doctors the tests are completely perfect. Not using any glasses or contact lens etc.. ever. So this is my case. It is an odd one but this is like it. So I am very confused about if I have an opportunity to change this tv what should I choose for next. I am in a dark space right now.

  • @RmnGnzlz
    @RmnGnzlz Před 3 lety +4

    Eink screen would be the right answer. No refresh rate so it's literally like seeing a piece of paper and no backlight so the light is either from the sides of the screen (not aimed at your face) or just the light in your room/outside. Color eink is advancing fast so maybe in a couple of years we could hvve phones and tablets with these technology.

    When I'm watching things on my phone, I don't sit still and watch constantly.
    I tend to be "distracted" from the screen a lot more.
    I look away oftenly.
    The time I spend the most staring is when I'm typing messages, or reading long pieces of text.
    Where as when I watch TV, it's much longer contant distance.

    Have also found that newer screens (past 3-5 years) and high quality ips panels give the least amount of eyestrain for me personally, as I'm more sensitive to these small differences. Also increasing the distance between the screen helps a lot, eg have my main computer screen at about 125cm (starting out at 30cm about 9 months ago). This has been an essential element in improving my eyesight together with incorporating as much distant (preferably horizon gazing, seeking the edge of blur) as possible.

    We need some cheesy rap music about active focus and not surrendering to smart phones. Or at least something with plenty of cowbell.

    I am cheap. It is so easy to just pay my smartphone bill and use it as my television. I know that I am not the only one. I want to spend more time meditating as I have my eyes closed during meditation. I have an electric typewriter. I need to test my eyes more often.

    Well there is a new screen now which is completely eye friendly. It is called Rlcd Display made by sun vision display, its a display with no backlight instead has a reflective film which reflects the light from the environment, it also has 60fps frame rate. But is very expensive at the moment.
