The video mentions how Henry Box Brown paid a slaveowner not to sell his wife and kids, but the slaveowner sold them anyway. It then mentions that the person who became the owner of his wife and kids "offered" him a chance to buy them. He probably didn't trust the owner to be honorable, because the previous owner just took his money and sold his family anyway. It may have been a trick to try to get him to come south to pick them up, and then capture him and re-enslave him. The inhumanity of that whole system is just unspeakable.
Thank you for that! I had read of HBB before, but never read about his wife and children being sold, then being offered up again. Hearing it in this video, I lost ALL respect. Thank you for this perspective. It makes complete sense!
Evil demons who the sun hates!😅
That’s why it’s important to keep history alive.
I'm Black and enjoy your insightful series. They are well narrated and thoroughly researched. It always breaks my heart to read about the gross injustices inflicted on the pre-20th century poor, the uneducated, the lower class, children, and the mentally ill. Many suffered the cruelest acts of abuse known to man. Especially Blacks and those who were born in Africa. These trifling and detailed accounts always bring a tear to my eye.
OmGOD mine also😢 God bless our unknown ancestors souls🙏🏿♥️🙏🏿♥️🙏🏿♥️
Don't forget about injustice to Native Americans. Blacks aren't the only oppressed peoples
The injustice is evil. The powerful so often crush the weak but not one of them gets away with it.
Some of us are still mentally I’ll bc we are not black that’s one of the problems the brainwashing in not coming at you with all do respect your truth is your a Indian and this is your land your ancestors was stripped of they identity so they could take the land as a land grab with the tactics they used asking with the first lies about Chris Columbus I hope u come across the info ℹ️ God speed
The people actually DOING these injustices were the actual demonic animals. The cruelty is appalling.
how is your channel still so underrated? really appreciate your platform sharing stories of black history.
Thanks for the support!!

Nothing ever happens before the time
This is an excellent channel, great topics, I'm one of those weirdos that likes documentaries, learning in general, too many today seem to not give a flip about knowledge, learning, they only want to know about makeup, hair extensions, fake nails etc..etc...but I'm old and jaded about today's youth
What time? What does this sentence mean? To what does it refer?
Captivating documentry deep sadness for Otto Benga😢. Those monsters involved in any way even the murderers of his young family to the persons who brought those monsters to his village only had to look in the mirror to see the missing link. RIP Otto Benga. ❤
🎀A video for over a hour? What a gem. Thank you so much.🎀
🎀The last one 😡Brown. He is a disgrace. He escaped slavery and became very rich, from what I looked up. Rich enough to own a servant but left his first wife and their children in slavery. Then remarried and his second wife, himself and their children lived in wealth. He wanted himself to be free but didn’t even think of them. Not even his children. WOW.🎀
Its amazing how you can see that, always remember, the one telling the story makes his people look good in their evil ways and tells only half the story. why would the oppressors children tell the full truth.
He was not allowed to go back home? All of the time they told my people to go back to Africa? That is the saddest story I have ever heard so far about my people. Thank you for the information and your contribution to educating our people! #ALWAYSLOVE
I am glad he escaped slavery, but to leave his wife and children to endure it with an owner that wasnt as kind as his own truly breaks my heart. I wonder if his new family ever looked for them and what happened to them.
Many, many thanks for this informative set of biographies of "forgotten" individuals from the Black community whose stories deserve to be better known. As an American 19th century cultural historian, the life of Henry "Box" Brown is well known to me; but the others were new additions to my fund of knowledge, and I appreciate your bringing them to my attention in this interesting and well presented way.
I enjoyed watching your love for history on people that have been overlooked. Thank you for featuring this video.
Thanks for these! Would live to see one on Ann Cooper Hewitt, the sterilized heiress. Also, Dinah Kelley, the formerly enslaved common law wife of former Confederate POW Bill Kelley, who have a Texas state marker about them. York, the enslaved man in the Lewis and Clark expedition would be interesting as well.
The black man that settled Chicago. The little black millionaire
I would like to hear about them too.
Thank you for the much needed information. But I wonder why he didn't buy his family and children back?
@lucillehunter412 Are you referring to Bill Kelley? He was white and I think he got his wife just afyer the civil war so she didn't have to be purchased. Maybe it was a dowry situation? Interracial couples in the south after slavery were complicated.
I am always surprised and mystified as to how you history types FIND so much information. Seems like Magic to me. Thank you for your work.
I feel the same way you do
Its called ..effort
@@Bonita.ch1 you could be right, but in regards to my comment you’re wrong. This is a compliment!
A compliment to a great man who provides videos, that at least I haven’t seen before and his videos makes me really happy and this long episode was top notch 🥰!
Get it, Got it, Good! 🫡
I wish you a splendid week! 🔆
Have you graduated high school? College? Do you not know how to do research? Did you ever write a term paper, big report? Man, kids these days, so flipping obtuse, oatmeal between the ears....we are so doomed, you history types 😂😂😂
@@Bonita.ch1 It's called research and awareness and curiosity.
I'm from Lynchburg Va. And wanted to GRACIOUSLY report, that the LEADERS of the CONGO Tribe from which he came ,have come and Retrieved his remains. HE MADE IT HOME

I agree
Not alive😢😢😢
Friend, could you start linking sources in the description if possible? It would help a lot of us learn more on our own ❤
Or you can take notes and research like Tha narrator. I imagine it was a lot of work to do the video … you can also put in work to teach yourself
Great video! I can’t believe Henry didn’t buy his family back 😢
An excellent use of 1 hr and 10 mins of anyone's life.
Fascinating and informative.
Thank you.
Thank you. I know most of this.. as a matter of course but again thank you for showcasing black history on your platform. 🙏🏿
My pleasure!
Salute 🖖🪖✊
Enjoyed your presentation on Storyville a d Lulu.
😅
That poor Benga his story is so sad and if you pause the picture of him showing his teeth you can see tears in his eyes, that just breaks my heart for him
I absolutely enjoyed watching this video. The detail and the sheer effort that went into this project was captivating and educational. I have loved this channel from my first video and love it more now. Thanks for the quality you provide and historical detail
Thank you so much!
Your channel is so underrated. Your voice is beautiful. You should really consider being an audiobook narrator. I would buy them. Your voice is sublime, and your stories are excellent and most I've never heard of. Thank you for your great hard work. Can I donate?????
Does anybody know how to donate and help the channel
Thankyou ❤

Great work!! This is amazingly informative and detailed as you usually offer your audience, but interestingly enough finding these people in history couldn’t have been easy, however I enjoyed the video of these truly Lost and Forgotten characters. Bravo! 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Much appreciated!

Thank you so much for this History, it should never be forgotten, yet this is the first of seeing or hearing this. I wish sincerely the history of the East Indians that was brought to the Island as Indentured servants could be told. Many people I was told was encouraged to go to the Island to a better life but was lied to some was kidnapped and never given a chance to return to their families. Thank you for the History about slavery.
It’s a weird thing some humans do; we can praise our brave generation for the wars in early 1900 & 1940s, have a deep reverence & reference for what those events mean for us today… but mention atrocities that are racially targeted and all the excuses come. It’s weird
My God!!! I have been saying this for years.
I think people have a problem with accepting people can do both good and bad things. No one is going to be 100% good, but society thinks they have to be, otherwise they must be bad, and they don't want to accept people they admire as being any kind of bad.
Thank you for doing this, a lot of people and institutions try to hide the truth from various individuals who mislead what has happened and contributions.
Good morning FLives. Excellent as always! Very good work the way you tell the stories, on the ones who been forgotten. Thank you
Thanks for listening :)

@ForgottenLives have you done one on William grims
Amazing to be able to hear you for another week! Thanks for your effort!!
Glad you enjoy it!
I remember when i used to carry scorpion on my chest pocket.
We start by daring ourselves to show who is man enough and who sucks.
I was glad i made it. As i grow up, i realize that our minds can really do wonders.
It is difficult to absorb so much sadness. Not only the abuse and selfish gratification, financially and for entertainment, but these poor souls were denied fulfilling their true potential and making their contributions for helping others. Satan roams the earth looking for those he can use to separate people and our living God.
Thanks for making these hidden stories not hidden anymore.
#DisneyDiva 🎉
Don’t know who “they” is - but I’ve heard of EACH of these cases, despite being pale. To be fair, I love all history and come from a time of pre-internet. So, I know how to find history. . No history is ever fully hidden. One must know, every history book has been painted to hide atrocities. Therefore, know you have to go deep into library cellars, archives, use microfiche, etc., as not everything is yet digital, to find “all the dirty/revolutionary/uncut and cruel secrets”. Perks of growing up in a small town. We were encouraged to find these stories “forgotten to time, left out purposefully” from accepted historical norms. Seems larger areas don’t care, at least based on how many folks don’t know the actual, full, gruesome, unabashed history of their nations; nor how to research on their own. Very, very saddening
Yes because our generation aren't cry babies. We need to know history. What sjw's and the woke are doing is a travesty. Especially to history about people of African descent in the West.
There is alot of history that is hidden and not in the books. Alot of history books and historical texts tells the story the way THEY want it to be told. NOT how it really happened. Alot of things we will never know the truth.
@@Bereal-yd5gh Who is "THEY"??
I would love to see you cover some Romani historical people
For sure!
Its sad how they had the nerve to want to sell him his family after he wrote a book and earned money.smh I think I would have cut my loses to and decide. Who's to say he would have gotten them, they lied plenty of time back then on giving people their freedom. ❤
Thank you for making these hidden history's.
I truly appreciate your stories of black historical personalities. I hope to e enlightened with more
Love the longer stories.
your videos always help me relax before bed & learn new things.. thanks again☺️
If I’m not mistaken, I think Lulu’s girls had to be Octoroons (1/8 black and 7/8 white)or more so she could have white male customers. I forgot if she was an octoroon herself.
@@yakimondo9378😂😂😂
I’ve heard she had “Quadroons” also, 1/4 Black women.
She was quadroon
These people had one thing in common- Most importantly :
"THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS"......
I know octoroons who are 50percent black or more
I love the longer format! You have done some great videos , but I think this is my favorite, or one of them anyway!
Thanks :)
One of your best videos! Loved I thoroughly. You are great story teller!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you again for making these clips. There are so many different stories, that you bring back to life to enrich ours. Thank you.
Ive heard the story of the boy with spiky teeth, human zoos were crazy! Hope the other stories are new to me! Could you add chapters in the future, especially for videos like this one, on multiple subjects/ppl?
Thank you so much, subscribed!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✌🏾
Thanks for your videos and research.
This was great! Thank you! 😉
No problem 😊
I wonder what became of Browns first family.
Very informative loved this......subscribing!!!
I'm 74. I grew up in Harlem NY. We knew these stories when I was growing up (and a Lot more). None of this should be surprising to Black people. Most families taught their children Oral History. We also had libraries and places to get information. Kids back then were more educated than kids today. Please keep in mind that every culture in every nation had the same stories - not just Black people.
Just found your channel and wth, you’ve made so much content! You definitely deserve more merrit my friend as your content is interesting, historical, new feeling, and the most important part is you get to shed light on these amazing people that have been sadly forgotten through time.
Thanks :)

Wonder why he left his wife and kids enslaved😢😢 seems he had more than enough to get them😢

Thanks for the info I’m a history buff I will share your link on my two channels. Keep up the good work. History matters.
Fascinated by these stories that have been long forgotten.❤
Informative from beginning to end. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for showing the lives & hard work- sometimes devious to survive-- of African people. 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
What they did to some Africans were displaced them in what was called human zoos. Another horrific incident, played out in Natchez, Miss at the devils punch bowl. The story was written by Chazz Williams. He actually called it a concentration camp. This accured during the time of emancipation when the slaves were freed. I just read the story about Belguim and Leopold and his brutally against the africans. How he had their hands cut off and kept in jars. Totally insanity!!!
.
Best narrator of them all especially when you say "however" I love all your videos
Marvelous 👏👏👏
Yessss! Anothered themed video :3
Im so here for it ♡ so much love, I adore this channel. :3
Hope you enjoyed it!
thank you for sharing my history, most are not interested or just won't because of the perceived lack of interest
It’s some of the most interesting truly
Your history? Nothing mentioned has anything do with you personally. If it did you’d be damn near 300 years old… People laying claim for what others did and became and making it a part of their history is absurd… ludicrous, just blame stupid.
Think on it, if you use your statement then why end slavery to begin with… All whites now slave owners due to their ethnicity background? I mean white is an ethnic background, so all must be bad just due to this right?
I’m not belittling you, I’m hoping you understand that history keeps people down, futures do not, and though it’s black history, it’s not specifically yours or mine, we weren’t there.
@@SsgtJodygotyourgirl Ignorance is not bliss.
@@SsgtJodygotyourgirlexactly! When people say this it actually sounds ludicrous.
@@marlenestewart7772 so what you saying?
Very interesting stories of real people's lives, that I as a black woman knew very little about, thank you for what you are doing, helping to educate the masses who know little or nothing of their own history, this is good stuff!
Thanks so much for this much needed information, much more is needed in times like these.
I knew the story of LuLu White..I normally teach my 12 year old daughter abt our History..I'll probably tell this in 2 years. I'm not mad at LuLu.. not at all..❤💯💯🔥🔥RIP
Excellent bios. Bravo!
I really admire the research that goes into uncovering these forgotten tales.
Thank you I never knew this. Wow
well documented at the first degree ! god bless
I really love this channel
Hi 👋 Just in time!! I’m happy 🪷 With kindness and respect, Grace 🩰
I deeply appreciate this expose’. It was well researched, presented fairly and with sensitivity.
It is very interesting and a true example of where the innate act of surviving can really take you with great focus.🌹❣️
The St Louis world's fair and Olympics that Benga was in was really a shitshow. You could absolutely make a fantastic video based on the marathon disaster alone.
Thank you for these videos! Educational!
Thank you so much for this! 😊
EX! Very Very Very Good these thing need to Know ❤
This man that was treated like an animal was where my fathers people came from and shows me these people who have money think they can do anything to anyone or anything they feel is a good idea as long as it is making money. I was taught all money ain't good money!
the second story is so sad. sorry, but I still wonder why the word "race" is still casually used in the english language ... it´s a social construct, helped to create Hitlers mindset. It´s not cool to still use it in my opinion. Why not just using the word "ethnicity". Even that is debatable. We all are the human species. With little difference because of the place we life in.
The word 'race' is not casually used. It is used most often in everything especially in the media. It is used to perpetuate & brainwash people to think & believe all people of color & not of pure White or Caucasian blood are not human o
I wish I could find Bena & take him home. This country owes him that.
I agree. Race is outdated. It implies different species and is, therefore, racist. Ethnicity I find no problem with. Why would it be debatable? It's like the word nationally, just a descriptor to distinguish one person from another. I'm proud to share my ethnicity and look forward to it as it makes me unique. I think everyone should be.
@@sonflour_ and its the correct word. its just ethnicity. its mostly just the looks that make us different. we are almost 100% the same with everyone else.
Oh be quiet you sound like a leftist recording
Thank you very much for these incredible stories. It s really interinsting and educational. I will try to find some books in my langage.
Glad you like them!

wow! just, wow! Great content!!
Great information. Thank you.
Fascinating history. I love your detailed explanations. My ancestors suffered so much by the hands of the Evil Empire!
Glad you found it Interesting!
I am really pleased to know about our hidden history so many untold tales. I appreciate this black history content very informative. Gid
It’s not hidden, Mme St.Claire was immortalised in the film „Hoodlums“, 1997. Mbye Otobenga‘s case is probably the most famous case of enslaved humans for „zoological“ exhibition besides Sarah Baartman & Angel Soliman. Only Lulu Hendley‘s aka Lulu White story is probably not known as much internationally.
Excellent compilation enjoy it every minute.
Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing,
I like this longer format.
I am a born and raised New Yorker, and I have visited the Bronx Zoo a few times in my life, and I never knew this. I will take my grandsons to this zoo and teach tell them about Benga, and I will never take them there again.
Very good. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Ms Sinclair was the mother of whats now presently called the present day Lottery Games. What an honor it was to see her life portrayed by the famous and very talented actress Cicely Tyson in the movie Hoodlum.

Brilliant. I appreciate your hard work.
The last story about Henry “Box” Brown being shipped to freedom; I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself when I realized that it’s very possible that there were people involved in Mr Browns freedom who were most likely *against freedom* and wanted slavery to continue. A future iconic moment would also be one of the most ironic moments in US history 😅
