What compels me the most about this season is how relationship-centric the storyline is. Seeing how every vote resulted the way it did because we were able to understand the dynamics between people and why they trust them or don’t trust them.. why certain people make the decisions they make throughout the game because we are able to live in the head of majority of the castaways enough to not feel confused at anything that ends up happening. Not to mention the editing also helped us see a bookend journey for most of the castaways in the game where I feel pretty much fulfilled with everyone’s story with a few exceptions ofc (the quits). This season managed to turn a pagonging on paper to a very beautiful story about an underdog who rose from a disastrous tribe after coming to a quick revelation about how she comes across to others in a game that puts a magnifying glass on your own self.. a tribe full of people who just cant work together because of lack of trust and clashing personalities that hinders any chance of cooperation.. a tight unit of 4 with interpersonal dynamics that cultivates a very exciting endgame stretch of the season. I cant say I was left underwhelmed with any episode because even if the boot was predictable or someone quit the storyline and these characters were still being developed enough that kept me thrilled for the next episode. And finally the winner was really satisfying and also very refreshing to see a woman dominate the game and win.. we haven’t see that kind of prowess from a winner in such a while so it was really amazing to experience it in todays era.
When Emily was voted out, I ranted for a solid 30 minutes about the fact that we wouldn't have in on our screens for the remaining 2 episodes, and that it was all Austin's fault.
Kendra is probably in my top3 favorite new era characters. She just has an infectious positive energy (in a surprisingly not-annoying way!) and was a lot of fun to watch.
This is the best new era season for me. I love that this season is all about relationship-centered because most seasons in the new era is all about twists and advantages. The editing in this season is top notch. We see the journey of most of the contestants and I feel satisfied. I really like the winner of this season. She played a great game. Survivor 45 is the season that saved Survivor for the past years because its a combination of old and new era of Survivor. Also thank you for the 90-minute episodes. It helps a lot. 🤗
This season was very entertaining but the end was just too predictable because some (mainly katurah) just never did a move, but that editing was top notch, making a pagoning entertaining. Anyways I loved Julie so much and was so confused why basically no one talked about her.
Honestly, idk what it is but I don’t think this season really did it for me. I found the cast kind of decent, with a few notable stand outs (Emily, Dee, Kaleb, Sabiyah, Jake, and sometimes Katura and Kendra) but for some reason the season overall never clicked with me, and since I started with 41 this was the first time where I would just not want to watch episodes and rather find out who was gone through Twitter. I think overall it was decent, but of this “new era” chapter for survivor (where I started survivor), it’s lower on my overall season ranking, and there’s only 2-3 people I’d want to see return. As for my overall rankings of the 41-45 seasons (I’ve also seen DvG, Pearl and Cook island) I’d rank them kinda like this I think: 1. 42 2. 44 3. 41 4. 45 Way down 5. 43 (genuinely would be significantly higher if Karla, Jesse, Or cass won, but it feels like that season actively was a waste of time at the tail end and it spoils the whole batch)
I DESPISE these individual immunities where theres a team-based element. The immunity challenge is the last chance for an outsider to win some safety. And these team-based challenges just incentivise the majority to just sabotage the challenge to kick out the easy outsiders. Like can you imagine if the duos twist from that one 43 episode was featured in Survivor Philippines ep 8? Penner's immunity win was genuinely the highlight of that season for me. And the potential for a huge moment like that to just...vanish is dumb.
dee didn’t throw a hinky vote on katurah btw. she said in her exit interviews that her and julie agreed to do katurah and she felt like jake would play his idol on himself so she did have a plan. she knew austin wouldn’t vote for her so if jake idoled himself like she was predicting, the worst that could happen was a 2-2-1 tie where she would have the numbers on the revote. but then julie threw a vote on jake LOL
that makes sense from her point of view, but at the same time Julie straight lied to her then if she was so convinced Julie was also voting Katurah, and her unwillingness to vote for Julie nearly led to her getting voted out. Regardless she left herself vulnerable and I account it more to luck than skill that she survived that vote at 5
Okay so the thing with Katurahs move is yes it’s bad but realistically it makes so much sense. From her view Julie is not voting Jake as it makes no sense, and she won’t vote Dee same with Dee so Katurahs guaranteed 2 votes in her eyes, she know Austin is voting Julie and Jake is voting Dee if she votes Dee it would be a 2-2-1 between her and dee and Austin and Julie would vote her out on the revote however if she votes Julie it’s a 2-2-1 between her and Julie and Austin and Jake would vote Julie out on the revote. Essentially she should’ve made sure of where Julie was voting
I don't think your take on Dee is all that hot. It's why so many people were clamoring for a Jake or Katurah win, and why her win has been received with mixed opinions. Is she a great player? Yes. Is she a fun player? No. She's the one winner from the new era I hope never returns, since I just found her to be insanely boring on the show.
The hate on austin is crazy imo. Obviously to each their own, but let's be honest he made one mistake the whole game, which was telling dee about the julie vote. He had almost a perfect game. Why do people hate when players are just good at the game. He did so much to be at the top and it worked out. Others tried and failed. You were so hard on any mistakes austin made.
katurah and jake weren’t winning the game. dee, julie and austin all beat them pretty easily. btw just because dee and austin are the reason emily got voted off doesn’t mean they’re boring. loved the recap but could not let that dee slander happen! 😂

I have to completely disagree with Dee being the best of the new era , let's be real she was 100% carried by luck. -She was lucky enough to walk up to austin and jake looking for an idol which formed the alliance that made her reach the end -She was lucky that Belo was more interested cannibalizing themselves -She was lucky that both Austin and Katurah were there I do think that's why her FTC felt subpar to a lot of people... she kinda didnt do anything besides telling julie she was about to be voted out

Odd numbered seasons tend to have something about them that I just don't like even in the old era. Of course there are exceptions to the rule.
