Yup another off meta video on another weird offmeta build. Rakan mid lane has a 100% winrate in pro League of Legends. Although not entirely. Unlike some of the other off-meta esports videos we've done on lol esports, this offmeta build has been played so frequently in competitive league that he doesn't enitrely have a perfect 100% winrate. Although that might actually be a good thing when it comes to what it says about the future of league of legends and how fun the lol esports scene can still be :)

I was checking Games of legends and rakan mid for funnelling purposes (most of them for Xayah) seems to have been played a lot more times than you stated, 4 games in LCK, 3 in LCS, 1 in LPL and LMS all in the 2018 summer season. Were you only counting games where he was farming as the midlaner?

Regarding the comments about us only being interested in recent stories: I disagree. I'm playing League for 9 years now, and actively watching the pro scene since 2015. Regardless if I've already seen it or not, it's such a privilage wathing these essays. What I wanna say is, old stories are desired! I'd love to get introduces to teams, strategies and players of before I was palying/ watching actively, as well as nostaligcally remember old METAs

It's definitely difficult to tell where I should take my content in the future when viewership spikes and dips all over the place so I'm never quite positive about what kind of content you guys want me making. I personally enjoy talking about old League history more than anything so I'm glad at least some people like that content too 😀

I can't stress enough how much of a joy it is to see your content about old LoL. Your IPL5 video is, in my honest opinion, not just a masterpiece in script, video editing but also a joy to see something not standardized in LoL. I just wish we had more people making videos about tournaments like that, the MVP win in OGN, or about big upsets like Keyd win on IEM Sao Paulo vs Incredible Miracle(that still puts me to tears... I'm a brazilian xD), in fact, IEM has so much history as a whole.

@@gbay99 I don't understand people who say the they don't want to hear about early league stories, it's what I enjoy the most. I've been playing on and off since 2011 and started watching esports since 2013 but I missed many of the story lines and just learning how some of the current orgs, relationships or even famous players got their start is great! Even if the players or orgs talked about no longer exist in the lol pro scene. Anyways I'm still waiting for you to talk about xPeke.

I mean, im kinda sad you left out the 2019 LEC Spring finals where G2 pulled out the Rakan mid funnel into the Sona+Taric "unbeatable strat".
As I mentioned in another comment that game COMPLETELY slipped my mind. I was using a query to check for all "Rakan mid" games and because Miky played him from support the query didn't get it. TOTALLY MY BAD THOUGH I SHOULD HAVE REMEMBERED THAT LMAO GO G2
@@gbay99 I did not read comments apart from your pinned one, but its completely okay, things like this happen a fair amunt of times with data tracking.
The video was nonetheless still enjoyable I just expected the Spring Finals game after a build-up you did and was a bit surprised it wasn't for that.
Honestly, that done does not fit this video that much. It's technically funnel Xayah Rakan, but it's mostly the Morgana solo bot flex and river Pyke that stood out in that draft. Morg countered Sona - Taric altogether, and river Pyke - Rakan put tons of pressure on all lanes, which won them the game lol.
I have a rakan OTP as a friend and he swears by AP Rakan Mid when you are counterpicking an assassin. W max, and just shut down any engage. By level 6 you just ult away as your escape instead of needing to use your W
I love how on the table that showed every champs playable roles for tahm kench it just says "rip".

I quit league for a full year. I’m glad to see when I came back you were still here. I appreciate your content and I feel like more games need someone like you.
I'm glad you made that point at the end. Me and my friend on League decided to play "Burny boys" which is Brand/Velkoz bot lane for fun, both with the arclight skins and I've noticed just how much easier it feels to play mages bot lane now. I feel like the season 8 ADC changes were the reasons for this but I feel like those changes even though partially reverted somewhat along with the item changes today delaying crit builds (20% crit per item from 25%) has made mages more accepted and much more useful across the board. It's never been so fun playing these off-meta builds. Zilean/Pyke bot, Neeko/Pantheon and Brand/Velkoz has been some of the most fun I've had in league in my 8 and a half years of playing.
The way the CLC caster says "RRRRRRRRRRRRRakan Mid" at 10:02 is just fantastic

I'm not really someone that comments on youtube videos but I did want to say that I personally really love hearing about the history of league. I've only gotten into watching league since worlds last year and it's been great to gain some context for not just the teams involved but the hundreds of references that are made on the broadcasts. Polish Streamer Marcin "Xayoo" Majkut invented Rakan mid and he was not mentioned here :c. He is an ex pro player ( played in EU LCS 2015 and in Challanger Series ), also a year ago he got challanger in 6 days, then swapped servers and was winning vs the top of that other server. He is the biggest Polish streamer creating all sorts of off meta picks.
I was here when you were doing your guides on how to increase elo and how to accept responsibility in league, I was here when you ate that sock, I was here when you released your 00:00 birth of a legend video and i'll be damned if i'm not here to see your resurgence in league documentaries.

I was wondering if it was possible for you to make all your documentary videos into like a podcast/audiobook type thing? Where you cut out the parts when its either music playing or when its clips of gameplay, I like falling asleep listening to your docs (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) and the change in audio and volume is a little much when trying to sleep. I completely understand if you cant/dont want to/theres not enough reason to do it, but I just thought I'd ask to see.

a good recent off meta champ could be Nunu mid, a KR player reached Chall spamming it which got the attention of PekinWoof and Faker and they also started playing it in their ranked challenger games
You know what... Gbay and some other League documentary CZcamsrs are doing gods work. Anyone who says that talking about the old days of League is stupid and a waste of time are also probably people who don't know any history of their country.
So what... are we only supposed to talk about the big plays of the week as seen on highlight channels? or only talk about how most of the item changes made huge mixups in champion diversity? I can tell you that I know more about League history because of Gbay and Exil then anything else on the internet. Besides people who like to say "Season 3 was the golden age and League is no fun anymore" with no explanation other then "It was just more fun."
It hurt to hear the people don't wanna hear about it. Maybe it's because they lived it, or maybe it's because they just don't wanna see how League used to look. I dunno, but what I do know is learning about the history of League is cool :3

If you get another chance to look into another old odd pro game, I highly recommend Lemondogs vs OMG game 2 at worlds group stage since the comp that got ran in it was just so bizarre and was a culmination of all of the wierd strats and one time blips that were coming out of worlds that year. It didn't have much impact in the grand scheme of the tournament, but it was a really cool match since the chinese team adopted distinctly foreign strategies for how they played the game. You are looking at the right game if OMG are running:

i learned of rakan mid from Dongs vid a while ago, started playing him this week because he was on champ rotate, cant go back.
i actually had a phase last season playing rakan mid when playing flex with friends. played like 30ish games with a decent winrate. safe to say it was a lot of fun.

As a response to people who want more recent content, it would be cool to do videos of you showcasing modern offmeta. One of my favorites is raidboss xayah top, with stride breaker, grasp, cleaver, and grudge

I realize that you're exaggerating some things for the sake of the narrative but some of it is so silly when actually evaluated that it breaks the enjoyment of the video IMO. For example, rakan most certainly isnt just like a control mage lategame and doesnt have as much damage as an assassin. He has a total of 190% AP ratio in his damage abilities, meanwhile other assassins like diana, ekko and akali have higher ratios (min 295% for diana, 210% for ekko not counting ult or W and 230% on akali with a single Q and passive auto) while also having higher cooldowns than those assassins.
But whats extremely noticeable is when you say that rakan can match ASol's priority... while showing footage of him getting pushed under tower by asol early and then continue to talk about how he was just as effective as ASol early which lead to his team being ahead despite you showing them being behind 3k at 15 minutes and 4k at 20 minutes. This directly contradicts what you're narrating...

you should do the moonstone, staff of flowing water if you want recent material. It has allowed weird enchanters to go as solo laners (ivern), duo enchanters botlane and even ap junglers to go it.
