      Same. Ever since 3s got removed I've basically stopped playing, and I'd been playing since late season 2/early season 3.
      The reason being that when I was younger I had so much free time that I didn't mind a wasted game now and then due to playing with randoms, but as my time got more limited I began only wanting to play with friends to reduce the likelihood of trolls/flaming/pointless games. The only way I could do that consistently was in 3s, so I became dedicated 3s player for a long time, so when 3s went so did I.

    4:15 Something to note is that the meta probably would have changed, but Riot did everything they could to enforce that meta, which is why it still exists today. What's interesting though is really early on they wanted the game to be 2-1-2 (which was common at the time) and the jungle was just something laners would take between waves, but whenever they tried to make jungle unviable, the people that did enjoy jungling would complain. This was the only time Riot allowed a meta change and they haven't allowed it since.

    • @Nazuiko
      @Nazuiko Před 9 měsíci +80

      Riot has been pushing you to play some Mages in the bot lane but y'all refuse to fuckin do it.
      Meanwhile we have Pantheon and Sett as supports along with basically a dozen mages whos sole function is waveclearing, relegated to Support because they have zero lane pressure OR scaling compared to bruisers and assassins that now centralize midlane.
      Karthus is a Jungler, Syndra is a Bot carry, and Heimer is a support now, because mage items are so utterly awful

    • @Portrial
      @Portrial Před 9 měsíci +53

      I remember a lane swap or the funneling strat was a new way to play the game. Heck even support item in lane. Sucks that those strats were gutted with top lane turrets take less damage early, and support item takes less gold with increasing minion cs.
      So stupid to gut all those strats

    • @imfinishedgrinding638
      @imfinishedgrinding638 Před 9 měsíci +26

      Wasn't the case for Dota. Icefrog absolutely made sure that the Jungler role will never come back ever again and it's for the better. Besides the rich support is somewhat similar in playstyle compared to League's jungler role anyway. You're just very active on roaming but don't neglect your responsibilities as a support.

    • @JohnSmith-lc1ml
      @JohnSmith-lc1ml Před 9 měsíci +16

      @@Nazuiko They keep trying to force champions with high base damage solo laners into the botlane and its so cancer. These champs basically play the same as in solo lanes but with a bit less gold. The adc is then left alone for the rest of the game.

    • @xisco5525
      @xisco5525 Před 9 měsíci +42

      In all fairness, having a standarized meta like this is really good for soloQ, where it's harder to coordinate strategies. This way, everyone knows more or less what their role will be. And Riot has made some efforts trying to diversify the kinds of champions that are played in each role, tryign to make mages viable in the bot lane while making champs like darius or talon viable in the jungle, or even creating champs designed to fill specific niches such as Kindred for an adc jungler.

I wonder if they ever released their queue algorithms/systems because people really did play dominion, ascension, and TT more than anything else, even when queue times were bad (they still are in a lot of ranked divisions and servers.) It's kinda gross that theyd say that nobody played them, and new players might not get to experience the better fruits of someone's creation just because of management changes and cost cutting.

    • @adamnagel7436
      @adamnagel7436 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think the main issue is that it pulled people from regular and ranked games making those queue times worse.
      When not enough people are playing the regular mode then you get rid of other modes.
      I hardly played the standard map until the others were completely removed.

I mean teams still have tradition, staffs and orgs back up with their distinctive mottos, banners and names but really the biggest thing that keeps the fan around in traditional sports is the association with places they represent (cities/states), that is their identity while in LoL teams it just doesnt exist

      it's because back then it was more personal, the pros were not PR machines, and were not required to have a stoic personality on the stage, Xpeke laughing, joking, even trolling the cast, Cyanide being well Cyanide, Ocelote being kind this bad guy Froggen only knowing how to play Anivia,Demon king who became so dominant teams banned his champions and RIOT nerfed whatever he played pretty much, there were always stories similar to even recently in DOTA 2 we had Liquid who became pretty much cult classic players in one night, the casters there also joke more and keep the relaxed atmosphere where even at the biggest tournament of the year one of their casters goes and trash talks random fans, gives them free stuff and so on. League of Legends pro scene died when they made it corporate. High production value is good and should be something to strive for, but you can't make it feel corporate or you'll lose the magic. That and LoL pro scene has stagnated to same champions every year,same build paths in every game, same bans and so on, you can't innovate. like early on we had sudden Riven mid picks because she "countered" Leblanc and could go toe to toe with Kassadins, Kha'ziks could go mid and go full on assassin and get ahead, Zed was a thing, when has that been a thing in proplay? tanks were actual tanks and not just statsticks that if given chance would run down people all by themselves, we had Twisted fate being picked as a counter to certain strategies and more.. now it's.. the same 3-5 champions in every role every single game.

      @@quanleanh6548 TBH I'd say it's because of the focus on players instead of teams. I mean, it wasn't all that uncommon for players to change teams and/or regions between seasons, and there's nothing for a player to get attached to. When the team comps can just be shuffled around, the teams themselves are limited to only like 7 in each region at most, and how obvious that each team was just a money grab by an organization who wasn't emotionally invested in the scene, it's pretty easy to see why people just slid off of having 'their' team.
      We see the player shuffling happen all the time in more physical teams but people still get attached to 'their' teams, even if they don't live anywhere close to where they're based off of.

      Thing is, MOBAs and League itself are old news and once you start spiraling downwards it's hard, almost impossible to grow back into a juggernaut as there will always be other games that will be more updated, polished and well new. Next time we get something new and exciting in MOBA market, it will most likely either be DOTA 3, LoL2, or something completely new that plays very different to League or Dota like Heroes of the storm tried to but ultimately failed due to Blizzards incompetence. While we wait on the next MOBA to revitalize the genre the games will drop off, players will go to greener pastures and that is normal. As i said, other games will come, things better or differently and innovate, but if you try to innovate on your existing IP you run the risk always of alienating your core player base (kind of like League has done for quite awhile) and while alienating your audience you might not grasp new players attention because the game is indeed 10+ years old, new players will feel they are too late, that they missed the train so to speak. Similar thing happens in fighting games al the time, kind of why they make new ones and not just DLCs for the older games, because older games at some point wont see any rise in player base and their players will get older, stop playing or want to play other stuff, but by making new games they keep it "fresh" and they can innovate on gameplay, make changes and more without making their core audience feel like they have no game to return to.

    • @FaceFish9
      @FaceFish9 Před 8 měsíci

      @@einfachdaniel3659 Funnily i don't think it's the "difficulty" that is the problem, it's just that Valve never really helped with learning it, things like warding, high ground, low ground, night/day cycles, pulling camps at certain times to stack them up for your carry, or pulling a wave of minions into the jungle to kill a camp and get killed so the enemy wont get exp, denying minions/towers gold by last hitting your own, are all things that should be taught by the game (atleast they should have a proper tutorial for them)
      That and the fact that League simply came first into the media which just meant it took all the old Dota players who were not sure if they liked Dota 2 from it back in the day and it grew up, sure it being more casual friendly helps, but Dota 2 as a game is much better for the difficulty, and to those who watch the games Dota 2 has much more to offer if you know what the pros are doing. Sadly both games are in the gutter cause of different things.
      Dota having a identity crisis of a meta for months/years now and Valve not updating it nearly as fast as they should and League meta stagnating from season 3 onwards and the community welcoming it, so now if Riot even tries to touch lets say a role like ADC to make them more self sufficient but less pain in the ass in the late game community cries immediately. if tanks are playable in the meta, guessed it, "tank meta op boohoo", oh supports can actually do something other than hope for their team to not have brain rot? must be a bad game... It's not that the game itself is horrible or the current "mythic item" idea is horrible for new players but if you've played even for a year, you know it gets boring. And thats the state League is now... people are just simply too addicted to it admit it.

    I still find saying "no one played 3v3 or Dominion" as Riot's reason for removing as a massive gut punch from Riot.
    The reason neither were played as much as the actual main mode of the game is because they weren't giving either the forementioned modes any actual attention, and by the time one guy did (which is when we saw balance changes for Dominion), it was already too late. As for 3v3, no one, and I mean, NO ONE, liked the new map for it, it was way too small, even for 3v3.

      Yeah, 100% this. Not to mention, both modes had around 5% of the players playing them at the time of their deletion which is a small number but is significant when you consider the popularity of LoL at the time of deletion. Considering they already weren't supporting those modes, it has always struck me as odd to remove them and alienate hundreds of thousands of players for no reason. I bet you in the current state of the game with declining interest and players, Riot probably wishes they didn't Thanos snap 10% of what they had at their peak.

    I think the game shrinking in size on viewership across the board is proof enough that the game was more fun back then since the devs were listening more and once they stopped listening to the community and started thinking about esports ONLY there was an avalanche of bad choices that made the game substantially less fun

    • @antonioreconquistador
      @antonioreconquistador Před 9 měsíci +1

      I could see why esports would be lucrative, but i dont see why they avoided the inherent problem of basing their game around it.
      The only thing more stale than playing a boring game is watching someone play one, no matter how captivating the commentary or gameplay is. The short bursts of action can be so decisive and clustered that theyre really all there is to the game apart from farming, warding, and holding your own. The less the product has to do with your enjoyment, or your defying the odds, or your development of expertise, the less likely it is that people will feel personally captivated enough to spend money on the free product. It seems more tied into distant, egotistical personalities, community moderation a la stepping on heads to keep people from stepping on toes, and third-party companies with their own gains in mind, than it is to what usually gets people to appreciate a game as a sport. It's a common folly amongst developers and companies today, but perhaps it's the only profit in sight when things are economically belly-up.

    I remember this post! Replay system also became a meme due to being delayed for so long. My favorite team back then was EG (formerly CLG.EU) mainly for Froggen Anivia. I miss Twisted Treeline and Crystal Scar, and I totally forgot how great Joe Miller+Deman commentary was.

    I hate watching videos over 5-10 minutes, but your videos are exception. I've watched Khan and forgot the other one, and this one. I wasn't disappointed at all. I came here to thank you for your precious time, that you took away from your life to make us happy and satisfied. Good job and keep it up! Thanks :) ♥
