The Plaid is weight-reduced and running on the stock Pirelli P Zeros on 19” wheels. (Backseats and most rear material removed. Both front seats are still IN PLACE, along with all door panels, airbags, mirrors, 20 stereo speakers and subwoofer remain intact.) These ~170 pounds make a difference of 0.11 seconds, as proven over 850+ timeslips (9.26 best went down to 9.15).

Same with the tesla plaid. All of these times are done in PERFECT conditions so not all of them will have accurate advertised 0-60 times.
Tesla Claimed a 9.23 quarter mile time. We ran a 9.24 in this video, and a 9.28, even after about 900 dragstrip passes in this car. And although we also removed the rear seat, like the Demon170 owner did, we still have our very heavy front passenger seat (he doesn't), plus we have all airbags, 20 stereo speakers, all door panels, etc. Worst pass of this night for the Tesla was 9.37 (at lower charge, lower ambient temp and poor track conditions).

Tell Greg to check the resistance of each coil, plug wires, and spark plugs. If he gets a high resistance on any of those. Then change that part out. Nice video. I can't wait to get back to either track down here!!!!

I changed fuel and car ran better on my last pass. 9.22. I believe I had bad E85 from sitting in jug for 3 months.

The Plaid's additional superpower against the dedicated drag racers is simply better consistency (along with 1020HP). Even with some track prep issues, you don't see those ignition, fuel issues, and with AWD you don't have the same bog or spin launch issues.

What 20" rim are you using with the drag radials? Any weight savings vs the 19's?
Our Plaid REAR Wheel+Tire Weights:
19” OEM Rears P Zeros: 56.4 lbs
Tire: 30 lbs, 10.5” wheel 26.4 lbs
(Aero covers +1.6 = 58.0)
20” Nitto NT01s on Martian MW03s: 59.2
Tire: 33 lbs, 9.5” wheel 26.2
Larger wheels are of course normally heavier. Like the 21” OEM Rears PS4S: 65.4lbs
Tire: 30 lbs, 10.5” wheel 35.4
(9 lbs more than 19”s!!!)
Why did we go with 20”s? Not because we wanted to! The tire diameter must match the OEMs at 28.0” (+/- 3-5%) or bad things happen (power steering disabled on our 2019 Model S with a slightly different tire diameter!). Although there are great drag tires for 18” wheels, those require modifications to the brakes that will void the warranty. In 2021, there wasn’t a good tire for 19”s either. So, we had to move up to 20”s

Yes that's him. Too many ice-heads giving him tons of crap for losing to Brook's Plaid. He had a tune, racing gas and rear gut, but still lost badly. He won't be racing another Plaid on video until he figures out how to beat one(which means never)

👍 The 144MPH trap speed seems to be a limiting factor. No matter what launch and 60-ft he gets, it always seems to trap 144. And it appears safe to say, that trap speed won't get it to 8.90s

Driver told me he paid for the rear seat option and then removed it. We believe him 👍

Perhaps this 170 is just somewhat 'off'? I've heard him speculate that. The trap speed tells a tale beyond just what the tire would explain...
@@TeslaPlaidChannel his trap speed is definitely the lowest I've seen. Everyone I've seen is 147-151mph trap depending on DA and if it's a 1 seat or full interior car. I think in normal conditions it's going to be a 9.5 second car and high 8's to low 9's in perfect conditions

We didn’t talk to him on this night, but last time we talked he said he took the tire pressure way down (lower than anyone recommends on the street), and he was taking about swapping tires. I should have taken a closer look to see if he swapped them yet, it’s possible. If I see him this week, I'll inspect the tires-

The Demon 170s have run 8.9 and 8.89 so far on stock tune and slicks, But it takes a perfect launch which isn’t easy.
