My grandparents were Maltese and moved to Australia in the 1930’s. 10 years ago my dad encouraged me to gain a dual citizenship between Malta and Australia which took 18 months, but I did it. In 3 weeks time I’ll finally be able to visit my country after 27 years. I’m so excited! Thanks for the video, it helped a lot!

Still it has nice place to see :) I live here since 7 years, came for 6 months, met my bf (Maltese) and stuck here :D Good luck!

my wife and I have been visiting Malta for the past 10years (excluding Covid 2020/21) The island has so much history and as the video states everyone seems to speak English, obviously this was due to the island being a crown colony from July 1813 to September 64. I have found the food to be extremely good, but you do have to shop around for the exceptional restaurants. There always seems to be colourful festivals on the go and when we tend to visit, June July or September, the whole island seems to be setting of huge fireworks form the villages all over the island. When visiting we have tended to stay at a boutique hotel in Valeta (Palazo Consiglia) which is in the old part of the city. The staff and management are fantastic and have always made us extremely welcome. I would highly recommend a visit to the island and would be surprised if it isn't the start of a lovely relationship.... especially if culture and history is your thing.

We've never had any problems in Malta, with anything, public transport is very reliable, buses to any part of the Island are frequent & run from very early in the morning to late at night, eating out is cheap, food is great, the people are very friendly, it has a rich history, with many beautiful buildings, & museums entry prices are very reasonable, St Johns Cathedral Valletta is breathtaking.
We holiday in Malta 6 weeks a year, absolutely love it, Christmas in Malta is amazing, they really know how to celebrate.

I'm sorry but saying that Malta's public transport is reliable is a blatant lie. I've been to numerous countries and I gotta say in Malta public transport is by far the worst. Never on time, drivers often skip bus stops, overcrowded 😵.

I visited Malta recently and I had a blast. Some things I wish I knew were transportation. I taught since Malta was a small island it wouldn't be a problem travelling by bus but public transport isn't convienent and neither the huge traffic jams. However, many places offered deliveries which made our stay more convienent. For example, I stayed in Sliema and wanted to try canna bis from aromatic buds malta and they offered same day delivery to my hotel. It would have been better if I stayed in 3 different accomodations to get around Malta easier.

Paceville is best avoided at night. Do not let your payment card out of your sight in restaurants etc. Carry your back pack at the front. Don't hire a car, bike, scooter etc. If you have to get a taxi get bolt app. If there's no price on something don't ask.

A few hard facts: The bus service in the summer is inadequate. You can wait 20 minutes in 35°C weather for a bus and when it finally comes it is cram-packed and won't even stop. A trip to a beach that took me 15 minutes on one day took an hour the very next... Food: can be good but it is now way overpriced. I can eat more cheaply and better in France than in Malta, as in France you can find fixed menus with an hors d'oeuvre, main dish and dessert for 17 Euros whereas in Malta no fixed menus exist and the same thing would cost you more like 25. And the quality will not be as good. The staff are poorly paid and if they are Maltese they have absolutely no sense of pride in their work. There is so much Construction going on that everywhere you go it is noisy, dusty and dirty. The Maltese throw garbage everywhere and altho they will spend a lot on the interior of their homes, a lot of the external façades look like ruins. The pollution level in Malta is the highest in all of Western Europe, so if you suffer from asthma or other respiratory problems you are warned. Be careful if you go to the restaurants along the waterfront. They will give you a dessert menu with no prices and charge you depending on what they think they can get away with. Avoid the white taxis - they are much more expensive. Use an app for the Bolt or Ecabs taxis...

Well, During summer it's true that the buses are overpacked. and next time choose a good resturant. All the resturants i've visited were cheap and good. And If you went 2020-2021 year, yes. there is many construction going on. We're upgrading the country.

Firstly, my are family are Maltese and I've travelled there more times than I can remember, however, they are not friendly and often rude and very miserable. You'll often find that everyone thinks they're a model because many of the younger generations pay a small or large amount of their wages each month to join modelling agencies with no work, where they sadly think they've made in life, living in their own little bubble, hoping that one day they'll be noticed and they'll become an overnight sensation.
DO NOT DRIVE IN MALTA ... it will become very apparent and very obvious while in Malta the vast amounts of roadside shrines and memorials for individuals that have sadly died due to car road accidents... Like hundreds and hundreds ... I counted 56 in the space of 15 minutes. No doubt you'll see at least one car accident or more during your stay.
However, Malta is a beautiful island, you'll either love it or hate it ... it's a little like Marmite. It's dusty and dry and most of the buildings are partly derelict, due to taxes. It's steeped in culture on every corner. The beaches and the sea are amazing, and the nightlife is great and caters for all ages.
Since joing the EU, Malta as lost it charm.. the vintage yellow buses have sadly gone, and have been replaced with more modern buses, that often don't fit on the narrow roads... even within the last 20 years, I have sadly noticed the huge diffrence in clear blue water that once surrounded this beautiful island ... sadly the amount of tourism each year is making malta unreconnisable, and has now become a very dirty Island with major issues with trash, rubbish.
Malta only has a few beaches, that are often overcrowded, however, you'll always be within 15/20 to get to the coast... which is rocky, with shape rocks so make sure you take water shoes... and in many cases, the water is very deep but great for swimming. Use the beaches at all times if with small children or those that can't swim.
If you plan on visiting, I highly recommend you stay in Selima ... this way, you'll have easy excess to local transport for visiting the entire Island... and you're within walking distance to the nightlife, the main capital Valletta either by Bus, water taxi, or walking if you wish. And you'll have plenty to do in the evenings... whatever you prefer, either chilled, relaxed or something a little wilder.
Valletta, even the main city and as beautiful as it is ... isn't really like your average city... after sunset, it becomes very chilled and closes up. All the action is over in Selima, and St.Julians. [along the central north coast] Bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes... Valletta does have a few Restaurants.. however, it's worth a visit in the evening, both the day and night offer two completely different vibes... there really isn't much going on after sunset. Shop wise ... nothing, just tacky clothing shops and gift shops. - But a 'Most' if vistiting. Apart from the driving, the Island is totally safe.
You will however find bars near the Ferry port in Valletta... but Clubs are a total NO NO... this is all in St. Julian. Both Selima and St. Julians have that city vibe, and anyone not knowing would assume this area is the Capital. - Shops,... designer labels and household brands [Zara, M&S, pull and bear, Diesel, etc] bars, Malls, restaurants, cafes, takeaways, beach bars and restaurants and this area stays open till early hours into the morning... and is very family-oriented. While St.Julians is geared more toward your younger generation and stays open until 4 or 5 am into the morning.

Malta has degenerated into an overcrowded mess of tourists, almost 2,000,000 per year making a few traders and business types very rich but ruining the beaches and historic sites in the process. You must pay for a place at certain beaches in Malta and prices are doubled in summer. Both my visits to Malta were spoiled by overcrowding and rip off tourist prices. I was born in Malta but I shall not return.

Well, if you were born there you should have known better.
I used to live there and i know for a fact that you could avoid the overcrowding had you opted for the south-end instead of Slima and the northern part of the Island.
Or even historic cities such as Rabat , Naxxar and Qormi near the Airport.
