Jank legitimately changed my life but I can’t tell anyone that
Yes you can. Micheal Jackson and Burzum have changed people's lives as well, and they also have done shitty things (or at least have been accused of). I think as long as you acknowledge how faulty the artist is, then you can express your love for their art.
@@adrianmojica2619 Very much agree with you Adrian. Once a piece of art has been released it no longer belongs to the artist but to all of us. The work of art can take on a life of its own both in big and small audiences. If Jank's work helped you out of a dark place, helped you make friends or just overall improved your life then that is all that matters. In fact I guess even if the creator is a little questionable taking that art and bringing light and positive to it is great
Same here
I feel the same way about McCafferty. I hate it when great bands have shitty people involved
hate the player, not the game
turns out the drummer for JANK is actually the new(ish) drummer for remo drive. small world.
Sam is Such a genuine dude
I just found that out.
What do y'all think about the new Remo Drive song?
Sam Becht is also in Oolong
@@camillaquelladegliaggettiv4303 It was terrible. Who knew that the album 'Greatest Hits' would actually end up being Remo Drive's greatest hits
After Jank broke up, I was worried that no band would ever match up or even be similar to Janks mathy poppy style and lou's vocals, but then I discovered Origami Angel. I really feel like they are a true successor to Jank in terms of sound.
Yeah but Origami Angel does the Jank style a bit too much. To the point where it borders on just ripping Jank off. Idk I think I’m totally in the minority of thinking that way tho
sound, maybe, but OA's lyrics are fucking horrible.
@@lamigraice2442 You think so? I think their lyrics are outright uplifting when compared to the utter discomfort some of Janks expressed.
Nameless2453 that’s part of what made it fun tho
Origami angel 😫 I love them bro yes
Its crazy how big they got. Me and Sam Becht were in a band together throughout high-school and when he left they formed JANK and blew up. He's always been such a genuine guy and still a great friend. Nice documentary man! I love videos like these
sam is one of my favorite friends. love him and his solo music
Bro you’re so lucky to jam with Sam, he is one of the most talented drummers I’ve ever heard and his understanding of rhythm just blows my mind…
Closest you could get to a joke band without being a joke ban? *This guy obviously hasn’t heard Ween*
I was thinking the same thing, but since this is about an emo band I did not think many people here would listen to Ween
Madre292k I’m just here to learn about music tbh
@@HalfBit360 Yeah, me too, CZcams recommended me this video. I've never heard Jank's music, but I've heard about the situation with the band before
You guys need to listen to thinking fellers union local 282
Aidan McHendry and so I will! Thanks for the recommendation.
I listen to "panucci's pizza" and "fail better, heal faster" without ever realizing that they were tied to JANK. I had a feeling FB,HF sounded like JANK
Edit: typo
Yeah I had a similar thing like that too I found panuccis pizza first and slowly over time discovered JANK
it's worth mentioning that the other member of panucci's pizza also did the jazz version of steamed hams
@@idothings6923 There was actually another band that Lou was in for a little while called "And I am Caesar" which, idk for how long they were a thing but nevertheless, you can find a few videos of their live performances here and there.
And also little tyrant
weflllagn aside from the songs on this page, I own every song that Lou (formerly matt diamond) has ever made. Most you can find on SoundCloud or band camp for one dollar.
I hate everything that went down with jank because their music is so incredibly vibrant and fantastic, I still listen to both albums to death but I cant bring myself to support lou, it just sucks to see the fall of something that could have been a fantastic run in diy.
Why can't you support Lou? He literally had consensual sex with a woman who is the next day said oh I didn't know I was drinking and didn't give consent and I felt pressured, which is the most bonkers thing I've ever heard. Dude did nothing wrong. If she had said no that night and he forced himself on her obviously it's a different story. But that's not what happened
@@eliottsmith6908you’re forgetting about the other story that came out after that redditor confronted Lou and their old bandmate. Lou aggressively assaulted a 15 year old when they were 21 at the start of panucci’s run. If it was just the one incident you’re referencing then Lou wouldn’t have used phrases like “people I have hurt” because they clearly have a history with multiple victims.
Maybe that one instance with the miscommunication could have been forgivable but it wasn’t just the one instance-Lou’s assault on the young teenager was the nail in the coffin for everyone. That’s why people don’t support them.
@@rynepacheco7879 so many stories and so many this person says this and that person says that unless there's clear uncut evidence it's really impossible to know what happened. I don't even like Jank or Lou, but people are so quick to judge based on nothing
@@eliottsmith6908bro dont come in here acting like you know shit,he sexually assaulted a 15 year old teen and that's what broke jank up,like you're a huuuge POS for even entertaining the idea that hes done nothing wrong after he pretty much admitted it
@@eliottsmith6908yeah that story is bonkers. At first she said she didn't know they were drinking until they got done drinking, but then went on to say they knew they were drinking because they take ssris and they get intoxicated faster. Not only that, but they apparently had a sexual partner that had put the condom in the place matt got it from. Maybe the person didn't want her current partner to think she was cheating, and fabricated this whole story to take the heat off themselves instead of taking accountability. Idk? Why point at a condom in the midst of sexual tension because you thought the condom was funny? I feel like she was implying he needed to use it. Not because they thought it was funny that it was there. Confusing ASF story on the other person's part
Because everybody is recommending bands similar to jank, I'd really recommend a band called "Guitar Fight From Fooly Cooly". They recently released a new ep and I think a lot of people would enjoy their stuff, very nice people too! Awesome video btw:)
i adore this recommendation thank you very much
for others looking at this, try "Origami Angel", "sports." and "Macseal". I enjoyed them all excessively and am still doing so
@@joon_xe im a big fan of those 3 bands too lol!
Nice, these guys are awesome. Thanks for putting that out there.
Lmfao a band name with a reference to FLCL gets a thumbs up in my book
Sam becht is drumming for remo drive atm, he absolutely killed it when I saw them in December, stole the show
It makes me sad that their original drummer is gone, but Becht is sick lol
@@garrettcarrigan2354 assuming you're on about Sam mathys? Apologies if I'm wrong and he's not the og drummer but yeah he was sick too, love his energy on the audiotree session
Alfie haigh Yeah I was talking about Sam Mathys. Now that I think about it idk if he was the original or not either, hes just the one I associate most with them. Their audiotree set was great, that version of strawberita is my favorite.
Oolong, his new band, is better than Remo.
the bassist is in souls glo
I appreciate you for not only making these explainers to band controversy but for also trying to be fair to all the parties. Your research is always extensive so I can get all the information their is to soak up and speculate on each point from each view point. Great work mate
I really like the way you covered the rise and fall of Jank, have you thought of making this a series? There's a serious problem with predators in the diy community (Pwr Bttm, Grlwood) and I think it would be important to cover similar stories in the educated and understanding way you do it.
what happened with Pwr Bttm? i remember them being mentioned everywhere on facebook but they kind of dropped off the face of the earth after their album dropped
idk idk Assault Allegations, do more research bc idk all the logistics
That's because its a smaller community that takes these issues seriously so it seems bigger. There are predators in every genre but they don't really get canceled or called out like this in the DIY community.
i would LOVE to see the rise and fall of pwr bttm
what happened with grlwood?
all this just to get to the damn hat store
Well at least he got himself a hat

It’s probably best that I was late to the party hearing about Jank. Man, I can only imagine how betrayed some hardcore fans felt.
Jank is either my favorite or second favorite band and everything Lou made was genius music. Its so hard to talk abt them tho cuz people just wont hear it :,/ Ive been following all of this stuff for years now so to have it all neatly organized into one video is great. You really did an amazing job thank you
hey nate, you should really shine some love on Sam Becht’s new band, OOLONG. they’re a great sort of mathy DIY band that deserves some love!!
in addition to that, ruben polo’s band SoulGlo.
Oolong is sick
oolong are some of the nicest people in the scene
thank you for that!
Oolong are great, they DMed me a photo of diddy kong last week
the diy scene is filled with this sort of stuff and it hurts so bad to see. there are so many amazingly talented bands that are flooded with hate and abuse and terrible misconduct. the diy scene has helped me get through so much and i just think its interesting seeing the traumatic repercussions people's actions can have. anyways... stan riot grrrl.
This past summer I recently discovered Jank and here recently I’ve been curious as to why they have no social media accounts or any new music I found this video and was shocked. I don’t think I’ll be able to ever listen to a song by them without thinking about this video. Such a great band turned to dust
If you made a video about the Cardboard Swords that would be, very neat. ((:
Yes agreed very underrated band.
Wait what happened to them!?
They're not a band anymore. They broke up last year I believe. I saw something online last year saying this was it and a final show announcement
@@fixingthepast a bad breaking up doesn't have to always involve sketchy drama, you know that right?
That’s not what I was implying I thought you meant just about the band in general. I just heard they broke up that’s all
Damn Jank was my all time favorite throughout high school, I remember when their music got taken off everything except youtube. Raw talent..
it sucks that he had to throw it all away.
Theyre still on Spotify but their page has been hacked to shit
@@CrabRangoonSortaGuyyeahh😭
I appreciate this so much. Watching and experiencing the rise and fall of Jank was a massive part of my high school years. Good stuff dude.
Im so glad you made this. When i discovered Jank and dove deeper only to wonder why there wasnt more content. I read snippet comments about the disbanding, but its nice to have things clear up
this is the one band I've found where I never get tired of their songs. Disappointed but still bumpin tf out of awkward pop songs
Would you maybe be able to cover the weird story on Sorority Noise? There's something about an old founding member of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid To Die. God that's a lot to type. But something about them and Cameron which is speculated to be the reason Old Gray and Sorority Noise was put on indefinite hiatus. This video is making me want to do some more research about it though; this video is very articulate and it's definitely bringing me back to that time because god do I remember this drama so well.
Oh my god and you mention guitar_emoji. I had various conversations with them. This is nuts.
i second this on sorority noise and was just about to suggest it.
Yeah Cameron supposedly did something and everything was talked over and it was something similar to this I believe, but there was no malicious intent and then everything was cleared up but then he took time off to try and fix himself and such I believe
@@erkwells guitar_emoji is the guitarist for a band called commander salamander, theyre pretty good
Thank you for bringing me all the history on all the bands I love. Another 5 star documentary. Keep it real - you're a true m8
Thank you for making this video. I remember when I first heard about these allegations I asked people to tell me about them, but people often get really passive aggressive with that and just tell you to Google it, but then there's never a good source that really explains everything. So thanks for making such an informative video! It's a shame to see what could have been such a great band get ruined by someone hurting others.
okay guys jokes over when is adventures getting back together

@@keithglidewell1358 I randomly stumbled among this comment and dang I love them, thank you
Listen to dusty cubby
also this is one of the best renditions of the story i've ever heard. thank you
Honestly wasn’t expecting this one
I saw Reuben from Jank at a Remo drive and sorority noise show in philly and my sister asked him for a cigarette, and I remember losing my shit from fanboy hype
Thank you so much! I’ve been craving a video like this since I started listening to jank, I’ve always wanted to know what happened to them, I knew sam played for remo and I asked him what happened to jank at the remo concert but he told me he didn’t know what happened to Lou :( anyways I’m subscribing cuz this popped up in my feed and I got excited. Well done friend
The things you never hear when you're not in the scene. I went to UARTS in 2015, and was probably in the same program as Lou for a stretch of time in the Winter semester. I remember hearing about and seeing the Jank logo on stickers and flyers a few times around campus, but at that time I was working on the final project and wasn't in Philly's DIY scene yet. By the time 2016 rolled around I already graduated. I'm still friends with Sam on Facebook, and I didn't realize what kind of impact the band had, as well as what kind of awful situation actually occurred. I can only be thankful Sam's still making incredible music.
Edit: Towards the end of the video, there was another person who showed up that I graduated from UARTS with. Philly really is a small world.
The video I didn’t know I needed. Thank you.
never knew that so many of the bands/projects that i liked involved Lou in them, hearing the music of these projects with no context of who the people making them were but knowing now honestly dosen't change anything for me, the whole story is actually very interesting and i give props to u for this amazing video keep up the good work man.
I’ve been waiting a long time for a jank history video to come out
Absolutely wonderful- well done- love this a whole lot. Keep fighting the good fight , you’re not alone in holding folks accountable for their actions.
VersacePlug that’s part of it. When it comes to social issues like this, the presenter has to be as impartial as possible so as not to rustle too many feathers. This isn’t court (though I feel some folks should be held accountable in a court) and this isn’t a persecution. This is only putting out the truth that some folks would rather dance around/manipulate.
The drummer sam is the homie! He drums for remo drive now!
*Oolong
remo drive is dead. only lasted 1 record lol
so glad someone did a video on this
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS ON JANK FOR SO LONG
A video I never knew I needed. Very well made
Jank is amazing. I found out about them maybe 6 months after they broke up and they changed my life. Right after. I found out they were no longer together. I always tell people how Awkward Pop Songs is one of the most perfect albums I’ve ever listened to. Although I’m not aware (as I’m typing this as I start the video) it left a void in me knowing I will never hear anything as amazing
Jank was my life and blood, kept me rolling. Summer 2016 and 2017 lives forever
There’s gonna be a resurrection, trust me. We just gotta want it bad enough.
bro i was gonna make a video like this but you did it way better then i ever could. this is great
I take a a TON of musical inspiration from JANK because they changed my entire perception of music but that's about as far as I go as a "fan" I wouldn't use the word fan just...I've been inspired by them a lot.
For real nate, you are such a good story teller. I dont even know jank but i am captivated the whole time.
this video is incredibly well made and engaging, thank you for making it :)
i was a senior in high school during all this and remember the day i first heard about it so well. this is really well done video
truly filled all the holes
I didn't even realize brock was in Panuccis
I found them through riff wars insta and i knew they played in invalids
I really like PUP, maybe you've heard of them. If not, definately go check them out. They're a great band with a really unique sound in my opinion. They recently released a new song as well! As I said, they're really cool and I hope you listen to their stuff. I would recommend starting with their debut album "PUP" and "The Dream Is Over". Really good video btw, enjoyed it a lot.
I adore PUP, got to see them at the beginning of the year and it's been one of the best shows I've been to
They’re fantastic
i love them!! they also seem like great guys too (obviously there's no way to know for sure, but it's nice to think that they are)
I remember hearing PUP on my tv for the first time and I ran into living room to try and catch the name of the song. It had just ended but I typed in parts of the lyrics and found it. Loved PUP ever since.
Seen them 3 times total they're fucking awesome
Really well made video man. Good job.
These videos get better every time I watch them!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
I've been waiting for someone to make something about lou and his bands. i know people despise him because of his actions but his music changed my whole perception of life. believe me if you want.
Can’t wait for your lostprophets and William Control vids bro
damn dude youre really out here defending pop punk huh
Great video Nate! Thanks!
Honestly I really enjoyed this video! I love your voice and the way the video was put together, keep it up! Btw I’m very sad to hear about what Lou has done since I’ve just found out about Panucci pizza!
I knew this video would be a certified Jank post.
Dude your videos are fucking quality. You do so much for the scene just by making these.
i swear to god nate you better keep uploading for my sanity
another well put together video, seriously so good with so much info. great job nate :-)
Panucci's Pizza and Jank used to be some comfort music for me. Like I could sob to it and or cheer up it has such a strange effect.
will always be my favorite band
thank u for making this
this is well done thank you!!
Can you do a video on mccafferty i think it would be very interesting
This band wrote incredible fucking songs man.
this was such an interesting video thank you. Personally I had followed their music since my early teens not knowing of any allegations until this past year. It was hard to hear. I have a personal experience with abuse and do not make excuses for those people. But on the other hand this music has helped me so much mentally even with that. Finding out about their behavior was heart breaking because of that. But i want to say the music does still help me. That can be a silver lining from something awful, art stands alone and can have an influence on you aside from who made it, like food or any other art. I personally won't be seeing them play live in the future or buy their merch aside from what i already have but those are personal lines we have to draw for ourselves, thank you again for the vid !
Dude, I love your videos so much. You seem like a genuine person. I can't thank you enough for these videos. You're the man❤️
You should make a video on Pwr Bttm
I'm not even two minutes into this video, but I feel like this comment will turn out to be foreshadowing

Dude same I just started listening to them
@@papapersuasian3789 lol same here
I found them on Spotify on like Tuesday and have enjoyed the tunes but the story leaves me conflicted.
@@jordanweber5220 just listen to whatever you want, no one cares if you listen to them... only soft sjw scene kids that still listen to mayday parade and real friends will care. If someone judges you based off the music you listen to ,they are no better than anyone else. Dont let random "creators" on youtube tell you what to listen to. This whole thing was never even proven , and if you think texts and instagram dms count as proof then idk what to tell you.
I doubt you should believe a person who already used the word sjw on their text
this makes me emotional
Subscribed, love your videos dude, always wanted to know what happened to Jank, I started listening to them last year and I was disappointed in what happened to Lou, but I'm also glad they played a small part in creating some memorable songs
I remember I had to get myself to stop listening to Jank. I found them in 2018, after everything had come out, and felt like I missed a trend that I was sad to not have been apart of. 2 months later I found out about everything had to cycle out this catchy songs because I personally take shit like this on a very heavy level. It’s hard to disconnect from impactful music you relate to, but I find when it comes to large allegations like this it’s just for the best.
as much as i dislike lou's actions holy fuck i love every song he's involved with, didn't realise panucci's pizza, jank, fb:hf, etc etc etc were involved with him but i just liked the music
Tysm for this video
LETSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. youre great at what you do bro.
Damn bro I gotta say hands DOWN the best (and maybe the only) Jank history video on youtube. I can't believe you made a video of this band. They are so niche it's insane. I hate how things ended with this band but Jank has been such a huge part of my life for the past 2 years. I remember when my friend sent me 'Versace Summer' my life and musical preference was instantly changed. I used to play in a band and Jank was a huge inspiration for me that kept me motivated to make music. Lou diamond has such a unique way of playing the guitar. He is so skillful at switching between lead and rhythm while also singing I can't help but become jealous lol.
That said though his alleged actions a reprehensible. I hate how things ended with this band. They had so much potential. It sucks that Lou did the things he did, but I still encourage anyone to listen to Jank or Fail Better Heal Faster just because the music is so incredible and skillfully crafted. If you can't listen to Jank because of Lou, at least listen to it because of Sam. That drummer is on a whole other level/plane of existence. I have never felt so connected to a sound before in my life and I will never stop listening to this band despite the fact they have released so little music.
On the Channel 'Fallens Memes Dump' Lou posts quite often (though possibly through the surrogate alias as Hayden) I do believe he feels terrible for his actions and wants nothing more than to be forgiven by society and to heal from the damage he has caused others and himself. I cannot stand sexual assault (as it is something people close to me have dealt with) but I find myself questioning whether or not people like Lou should be forgiven if they feel truly bad about their actions and have changed/grown fundamentally as an individual. It's hard for me to tell since I don't know Lou personally and I have no idea if he is being genuine or not, but should he be forgiven? I'm not very religious, but to me not all sins are equal. Is the sexual assault of a minor a sin that can possibly be forgiven? I personally do not think so, but he is making a huge effort to show that he regrets his actions and really wants to show that he has change. I think that in time that can account for something. It's difficult to say and I really don't have the answers. Plenty of bands and artists have been accused of the same and worse. Think of Drake. So many people like Drake, yet there is video of him on stage fondling a 15 year old girl. He should not be forgiven, yet people consume his music daily. Just because he has much more of an audience, he should be given a pass? I don't think so. There is no apology or video of Drake saying he is sorry or regretful for this. He is just one example but I'm sure there's more.
I wholeheartedly believe in separating the art from the artist. If you cannot listen to Jank or FBHF because of Lou, then so be it. I cannot change your opinion. But to me, this music has changed my life for the better and opened a subconscious dialogue about forgiveness that i never would have had if I didn't discover this music. Thanks Nate for covering this, I never thought I'd see you make a video on this band!
absolutely terrible, abysmal, and atrocious take. be ashamed. even if you can “separate the art from the artist” in your head, by listening to any of lous music you are still directly supporting a rapist. a stream from a rape apologist is equivalent to a stream from a wary listener trying to be mindful. by in ANY way supporting lou diamond, you are denying the validity of their victims and the trauma they have gone through because of them. delete this comment and rethink your life.
@@9tailshadowwolf Because listening to music for your own pleasure is obviously condoning rape or being a rape apologist. /s
People have the right to have their own opinions and thoughts, even if it's very controversial. Although they're not free from criticism, trying to silence them shows ignorance. Most of the people who still listen to Jank acknowledges that Lou is a complete scumbag for what they did, but only listen to Jank only because the music sounds good. There are people out there who listen to artists like GG Allin for example. While most people don't condone what he's done, they still listen to the guy because he sounds good surprisingly as well as some more controversial artists. You can have your own take and not listen to an artist due to your own morals and values, that's completely understandable and I respect it. But when you try to shame someone for listening to music that they like, which isn't hurting anyone that they know whatsoever, is kinda sad.
Just let people enjoy stuff bro. As long as they're not looking up to them as some sort of role model for their life decisions, I feel like it's okay. We can all have our opinions on this very controversial topic, but don't dehumanize them just because it differs from yours. What Lou has done is fucked up and I despise it, so I don't condone them. But I do condone good music.
OG SAM you’re so over dramatic you just make me roll my eyes you weren’t there don’t know the story. Believe what you want but no one should be ashamed for music.

As for your final, personal question about Hayden associating with Lou. Every person is a human being, even murderers, rapists and abusers. We live in a society where we forcefully make decisions and create social codes to be able to make things black and white, to make it easy. But nothing is easy. As someone who has been abused, sexually and physically to the point where, I may not be able to have children anymore because of the mutilation performed on me, the person who did it is still human. They are still a creature on this plane of existence and for all the pain they caused me, they deserve a second chance. My hatred and Anger toward that person has little to do with that they did to me, it has everything to do with the fact that they refuse to apologize and they refuse to change. The same thing is true with Lou, my abuser and every person on this planet. The only thing that makes someone "Evil" is a refusal to change, a refusal to get help and make themselves better, which is why I still listen to Jank, because Lou actively sought to become better, to heal faster. His failures, mistakes, and evil deeds made him have legitimate regret and anguish and he forced himself to change for the better. That's also why his "confusing non-answer" was a legitimate answer, but not in the way the person wanted. Lou wanted to change, Lou actively tried and forcefully made himself change, but many people who live in a black and white world of good and evil villainized him with no thought or regard to the fundamental fact that humans are evolutionary creatures and can change. They hate him, his music and the people who listen to it on the principle of, "Bad is bad, and those who do bad are bad," instead of the principle of "We are all human and deserve life, liberty, justice, and happiness, no matter our mistakes or crimes" That principle is the reason we have rehabilitation programs for drug users and prisoners, the reason we have mental health clinics and therapists. Every person is a person, no matter what they have done wrong.
I am a very strong believer of this thank you for posting
It’s sad because I’ve been digging through the comments and yours is the only one I’ve found sharing this sentiment
Exactly. All these ppl that wanna b with the in crowd and jump ship don’t get it.
