- It’s been a little while since we last checked in on our official client team’s progress, so today we’d like to look at some of the features and improvements they’ve been working on!
At this year’s Winter Summit we announced an official HD Mode and the Client Plugin API, two core features which will bring the official client in line with the expectations set by other approved third-party clients like RuneLite and HDOS. Even better, you’ll be able to experience these features on Mobile for the first time, making it even easier to switch between platforms while you’re on the go!

Tags and entry swapping are nice, but let’s talk about the actual important plugins. Will the official client offer Door Kicker?

The lighting alone makes this one of the coolest updates. If they added a day/night cycle with this tech and expand upon runelites implementation of seasons, it would be incredible for sailing.
I genuinely love the idea of a day/night cycle. But with a toggle for people who aren't interested in it.

Honestly the single biggest thing that keeps me from playing mobile is the lack of Menu Entry Swapper, you guys are absolutely knocking it out of the park bringing that to mobile. Can't wait!

I am just glad Jagex is working with Runelite developers rather than trying to create a half-assed copy of their plugins before then forcing runelite to shut down like most game companies would do.

Oh man how I have been waiting for this for a long time. I really hope you guys allow players to submit plugins to you and they are able to be approved and looked at and get added to some sort of Official hub. I would imagine a lot of plugin devs from RuneLite would contribute to the plugin api you guys have
Love these updates
For mobile plugins, I'm glad menu entry swapper and tile markers are on the table, but I'd also really love to see Inventory Setups, it's the main thing stopping me from gearing up and tackling certain tasks on mobile.

bolt-launcher has been working well but I'd like to hear some official statements from jagex if it is okay to use.
At least I haven't been banned yet using a 3rd party launcher
its possible to play on linux with jagex launcher and runelite you just dont know how to use linux I think
@@MrLinuxFreak That is a bold statement to make. Yes, it is possible to play using the official Jagex launcher through Wine, but that means sacrificing performance. We are seeking a native solution.
If you do have some alternative way enlighten us.
@@MrLinuxFreak Runelite is easily possible as they have a Linux client, yet doesn't support Jagex account. Both can easily be launched via wine or proton... But thats never a nice solution, especially since OSRS could be played on Linux prior without relying on a compatibility layer. There is no offical way to run OSRS on linux without relying on thirdparty tool such as Bolt.

Being forced to play mobile as a father of 2 savages. I'll finally be able to enjoy the game again. Plug-ins are a huge asset to osrs to be at its peak potential and quality of life we have all been desperately waiting for since runelite. Bless the rs God's you guys pull this off 🙏

I like what I hear, a plugin API is basically necessary for the Official Client to compete with RuneLite. Keep up the good work.
One thing I'd like to ask is for you to eventually get around to supporting Linux on the launcher and the new Official Client, it is the only thing really making me hesitate transferring my account to a Jagex Account - going from full native compatibility to needing to use translation layers(with no guarantee of a fix should it break) is a regression that feels bad.
I've been using the bolt launcher on linux for almost a year now and it has been working wonderfully.
Of course, I want an official linux version as well, but as it stands now, that is a viable option.
im using a steam deck and have no problem using the jagex launcher, theres plenty of info on it if you actually care
sure its not 'native' support, but it took me 2 minutes
@@pkilljoy5797 of course, I am not saying it doesn't work right now, it does and I am using it on my newest account. I am just concerned about the lack of support or obligation should something happen.
This is true both with the launcher(being the only entry way to the game with a Jagex Account) and the new client, which inevitably seems that it'll be taking over, considering Jagex has shown they understand what they need to do to supersede RL eventually. That is overall very positive but I just want to keep being able to play without worry like I always have with old accounts and Java-based clients.
Since Java is being killed, any word on any official Linux support for the Jagex launcher?

@@coatrahd3594 Some of us need it for work, use it for improved performance or just prefer not having intrusive telemetry probing our systems. What's with the harsh response? We're still a valid community that deserves addressing. The old client is already native to linux, meaning theres a larger unix community than you'd expect. Just look at the 7orm project, theres thousands of people using that already

I don't think there will be. They already said is not worth it. But Bolt Launcher is fine using for more than a year now and no problems.

Watching you all make the good decisions for the games future is such a breath of fresh air in the gaming industry. Really encouraging to keep on playing when you see a bright future ahead. More than ever we feel passion from the devs work. I've been around for a long time, I grew up with this game and I never thought I would get to see Jagex with such stature. I know the devs/mods will keep redirecting the honors to the community and their feedback but it wouldn't be the same if you weren't listening actively like you do. A wonderful symbiotic relationship. Tap yourselves on the back for me.

Aside from the content of the video, I thought it was worth mentioning that Mod Sarnie is a great presenter for your videos and I like seeing him in the vids and streams. Defo a natural at it, he comes across really well and makes the videos feel real and genuine
One thing I worry about is plugin/client support as the official client eventually takes centre stage. Currently, if you have any issues or questions about RuneLite plugins/client, their support channel on discord is always active and you will usually get a helpful response within minutes, if not seconds. Hopefully we will have a similar resource for the official client and not some sort of ticket/email system.
I really hope the RS3 team learns from this and implements stuff like plugins moving forward. Really proud of the OS team (and the RS3 team for that matter, sanctum is awesome) and I hope they can share their successes with RS3 as well
RS3 is made on more modern tech and so it's much harder to expose a plugin API. You realize most of osrs was understood by bot makers right? Osrs is a laughably easy game to decode. This update's work was 85% completed my bot and plugin enthusiasts. RS3 just isn't as straight forward to decode. Chicken and egg problem

But FR, The fact that Jagex isn't nearly as arrogant as Blizzard Entertainment and are willing to work with people who know what they're doing, despite any optic drawbacks, is so respectable. This is what the greatest dev teams are about! Progress, not gatekeeping. I am proud to primarily be an OSRS player over a WoW player even though I grew up with both. OSRS and its dev team was a gift from Guthix himself!

Years! I wanted to mention in case no one else has, however, that there are some graphic issues. My gilded rune armor while equipped, makes my character invisible, and while equipping the rune scimmy, the scimmy is invisible being replaced w a granite maul, which i dont have in my inventory at all. Idk if that has happened to anyone else, but im on the latest version, and its still the same. Thanks for listening. Stay awesome, Devs! =]
The new release of HD brings me back to 2008 when RSHD first released... Gives me goosebumps. Great job to the Jagex team

Why? Alt 1 Toolkit is great and was easier to use imo. Of course... No quest helper though.
@@RSAnimism Alt1 is extremely limited, it doesnt work with 4k because it doesnt work with interface scaling and the developers of alt1 have gone on record to say they will never implement interface scaling. Alt1 just reads your screen which also makes it buggy and finicky. Also, alt1 does have a quest helper.
@@tsgsomething5228 exactly this. Alt1 is a screen reader and does not read game packets. Tile marking has near zero chance of being implemented, xp tracker requires the xp window to be open. God forbid you move any element of the ui while active, and you cannot remap L click options at all

Is there any chance of proper SteamOS support outside of using steam currently the linux work around is difficult to get working everything else seems like a very nice update to the official client

This is using a modified version of the RS3 engine, so improvements made here might end up making their way to RS3 too.

MOUSE/KEYBOARD on mobile would be HUGE!
You can plug a mouse in and use it on osrs mobile, at least on android

The Dev team is hitting a real stride. It's nice that it feels so well rounded. For a while, I didn't feel good about a project until I saw Mod Ash coming in to sell it with a goofy smile. But now everyone seems competent and really passionate. I can't think of a time I felt better about OSRS' future

You can already play on linux very easily. Do you know how linux works?
He's most likely referring to the Jagex Launcher. Since if you have a Jagex Account and play via the launcher, you are unable to play on your account on Linux, as there is no support Linux support for the Jagex Launcher. One of the main reasons I'm not upgrading to a Jagex Account despite the security benefits.

Super excited for HD, but I do hope the ground tiles will be blended better in the finished product. Currently, I think it would take away from the enhanced atmosphere that HD will offer. This is amazing! Been waiting for so long to have the official launcher catch up to the rest :D Doesn't matter how you look at it or how much you love Runelite, OSRS having it's own as the preferred and best launcher is too good for the game itself to ignore, especially with the high player count it could reach on a platform like steam
I can't wait for more challenging content to be more accessible on mobile! After working on the computer all day the last thing I want to do is sit at the computer and play osrs. Being able to do more challenging content on my phone with plugins while chilling on the couch will be a game changer
I'm excited for the new client reveal, and I applaud Jagex for making performance of the client a huge focus.

Probably one of the top 3 most used plugins I’d say it should be available. Albeit if the plugins are going through an official jagex client they probably wouldn’t want a plugin that makes questing obsolete 😬😬😬

I couldn't vibe with the 117 HD plugin, it changed things a bit too much and PvM was horrible with it enabled. This HD looks soooo much better, I'm extremely excited for this. Good job guys.
As a 100% mobile only player, these updates are the most exciting thing to me. I already hold my own on most pvm, but these updates are going to be a game changer.
I was literally sat in my poh after a muspah trip for cas yesterday wondering jagex said something about their own hd stuff during the 117 plugin drama. Crazy
It would be huge to add mouse and keyboard/keypad support to mobile if it isn't already. Easiest way to take osrs on business trip and still be able to do something at a high level.

@@daveydaugherty6363 F Key settings are tied to your account, You'd have to set it up on PC.
This has nothing to do with RuneScape. Most phones will let you connect a mouse you just need an adapter. iPhones don't show a cursor and you have to turn on Assistive Touch.

This is great, very exciting updates!
One thing I feel is annoying with the official client is not being able to change settings without opening the settings menu. Especially when I want to change something visual, I'd had to keep opening and closing the settings menu, searching for the setting, modifying it and comparing the different options. If using Runelite this can all be done from the sidebar. There is a sidebar in the official client as well, but if I try to open the settings of my loot tracker, for example, it pulls up the in game settings.
It might seem trivial now but this is going to get more and more tedious the more settings and plugins are added to the game.
Super excited as a mobile only player!! Unrelated, you think we could change the farming cape tele to next to the spirit tree? The way it sits, it’s just a downgraded version of a skills necklace in a different slot (besides herb save and an emote). It’s not like it’d be game breaking.

Love the HD stuff, i use flat shading on PC, but I havent finished some quests cuz I havent had the chance to use PC for a few days - now I could continue on mobile (with Quest Helper) which is awesome. I hope you dont throw out some silly poll that ruins it lol. Sometimes a vocal and/or confused set of minorities group together and ruin it for all.
I’m super excited to see the official HD client on pc and mobile, but a lot rides on the plugin API especially for pc whether I can stop using Runelite for this or not. I’m hoping for the best! The devs seem to know pretty well the plugins most players “need” 🙂👍
Thankfully, RuneLite keeps track of the most downloaded plugins, so it should be fairly easy to determine which ones we want or need to implement.

Idea for jagex. If you receive a potion drop from a monster and you have the same potions currently within your inventory, a setting to toggle so as you loot your drop a message shows as “you carefully pour the contents of the potion into your vials” or something.. basically if you have a 2 dose prayer pot and you receive a 2 dose potion as a drop, your pot just becomes a 4 dose as you’re looting

Im kinda glad. I love runelite bit I feel like Jagex need people on their own client going forward for all sorts of reasons. A plugin API is a great compromise

Everything looks great, the real selling point for me would be if we could have adjustable UI elements so we can resize the chatbox/inventory elements independantly. PLSSSS
Just copy all of runelites plugins onto mobile, add a 2 finger tap for right click, and drag items in the inventory. The game will take off.

Idle notifier on mobile would be awesome. Can be productive in real life, while grinding with the game open. Could feel double productive, and double dopamine. I mean I already do that, but able to have a timer when to look at the screen would be amazing Qol and feel more efficient.

I hope that the official client will as well solve some issues that Runelite plugins had. Then I'm totally switching. What I have in mind are things like: UI/huds resizing while keeping the quality on high resolution monitors. Huds look very tiny on 4K by default and when you use Runelite's stretched plugin it ruins the quality. Other Runelite problem I see with stretched is that ground item overlays become too big.
