  • If you want to talk about Yennefer of Vengerberg more in detail or just get more information, come to the official forums:

    On the forums I also try to explain why Yennefer behaves like she does in certain situations, these videos here are the source material for that:

    Honestly it's incerdible how much Philippa seems to misunderstand the situation. Yennefer doesn't care about putting Ciri on the throne and ruling through her, she only looks out for Ciri's safety and happiness and Ciri would never listen to Philippa if Philippa were to somehow be responsible for Yennefer getting imprisoned/killed.

      This is actually a surprisingly consistent trend with Philippa's character. She prides herself on being a political chess master, which she certainly is to an extent, but her tendency to overestimate her ability to manipulate others keeps biting her in the butt-cheeks time and time again.
      She issued her own decrees in the name of King Vizimir II behind his back, later had him murdered in cold blood, and then tormented and humiliated his young son Radovid V while trying to turn the latter into her own personal puppet-king. But all of the mental scars this left on Radovid came back to haunt Philippa BIG TIME in Witcher 2, when Radovid officially broke out of her control, arrested and blinded her, and devoted the rest of his screen time to hunting down her and everyone like her.
      Here she wants Yennefer's cushy position at the Nilfgaardian court with Ciri as a prospective future pawn, so she asks Geralt to pretty please leave Ciri with her in Nilfgaard and take Yennefer somewhere far away so that Philippa doesn't have to go to the trouble of locking up the latter (and thus risking her own reputation). But she makes THREE miscalculations in this moment alone. First of all, Yennefer never stood in the way of Philippa gaining a position in Nilfgaard, because Yen couldn't care less about politics and was only there at all because she was trying to find Ciri. Second, Yen loves Ciri like a daughter and would NEVER allow Philippa to use Ciri like that. Third, and most importantly of all, Ciri herself would personally prefer to get out of politics completely and follow in Geralt's footsteps as a Witcher; assuming Geralt respects Ciri's wishes (which he most likely would if we go by his characterization in the books), this fact alone means that the lynchpin of Philippa's whole scheme is already dead on arrival.
      And on a broader scale, since Philippa is the de facto leader of the Lodge of Sorceresses, every single blunder the Lodge makes can be ultimately traced back to her as well. This includes all of the witch hunts going on in Witcher 3, which were a direct result of Philippa's mistakes with Radovid as well as (if Triss is NOT saved in Witcher 2) the public exposure of the Lodge's role in the murder of King Demavend. Speaking of which, the Lodge's conspiracy to murder Demavend gave Nilfgaard the PERFECT opportunity to frame them for the murder of King Foltest as well; even in the best-case scenario (if Triss IS saved), this forces the Lodge to sell out Sile de Tansarville to save the rest of their necks. And in a smaller-scale example, Philippa personally approved of and assisted with Sabrina Glevissig's use of Melgar's Fire in a battle between Kaedwen and Aedirn to discreetly prevent King Henselt from conquering the latter; this atrocity was so appalling that Henselt, who up to that point was COMPLETELY wrapped around Sabrina's little finger, sentenced Sabrina to death on the spot. ALL of these examples, coupled with the Lodge's general prerogative to manipulate kings and politics as they saw fit, directly contributed to the fear and mistrust that sparked the witch hunts in the first place, ironically making the Lodge itself largely responsible for the destruction of virtually everything they sought to protect.

      I agree. I've recently re-read certain parts of the books (Specifically lodge heavy parts) and only now do i understand just how deeply Yennefer cares for Ciri that she is capable of dropping her hatred for the Lodge and work with them in order to save her. In the books they turned Triss against her, Planned to marry her off and force to have children, Yennefer was constantly refused from voicing her opinion while the lodge (specifically Phillipa and Sile) discussed what to do with her and Ciri. She clearly harbors some deep bad blood with them, and yet Ciri is in danger and is thus willing to part with past grievances and summon them for help. She clearly doesn't want to involve the lodge with Ciri but she has to, im glad she says towards the end of the game, in other words but this is basically what she said "Fuck Emhyr, fuck the lodge and their high society and lets retire from the world, just us together" to which Geralt obviously agree's. The fact that the lodge literally wanted to take her daughter away from her in the past but she is willing to set this aside to defend her with the lodge's help in the future is pretty huge. Although she does settle down away from it all after the Hunt is defeated and lives with geralt in touissant for fuck knows how long? Until they decide one day to invite Triss round i suppose :p just like the books when Yen says we can invite Triss round and she can stay some nights.

Like when she uses the mask when mouse sack specifically tells her not too because it will bring storms and pain upon everyone. But she doesn’t give af about nobody she knows she and Geralt will manage so she does it anyways and gives no thought to how the druids or ermion feels. It’s selfish but it’s practical. That’s how yennefer thinks. She doesn’t care about how she gets to her goals as long as she gets to them and justifies it by thinking her goals are worth it.

    Philipa is the reason why you shouldn't trust sorceresses. At all. Scheming, completely self-absorbed, arrogant to the brim, quite happy to use and abuse her power, will literally walk over a field of bodies to get what she wants, hoards power instead of using it for the common good, completely disregards the opinions of others and their interests, etc.
    Yennefer shares some of these traits, but she has retained her human, even caring and motherly side. Triss is probably the polar opposite of Philipa. Triss was helping save mages, sorceresses and others being persecuted and burned alive for being different. She put her life on the line. Philipa spent her time scheming, plotting and getting her eyes back.

    I thought Yennefer annoyed me to no end. That is, until I remembered how much I hate Philippa. The game should've had the option to kill her. It would've been much more satisfactory than the one for Eredin.

      I don't think you can tell him where she is.. but depending on how things go on Pyke Isle Kiera might choose to use what she just found to convince Radovid to let her join him-- it doesn't go too well for her

    • @Veridiano02
      @Veridiano02 Před 5 lety +10

      Pff, between Philippa and Radovid, I choose Philippa with my eyes closed (no pun was intended). Philippa is a natural conspirator, dangerous and Machiavellian, that's true, but Radovid? He's a bloodthirsty lunatic capable of burning, raping and killing entire villages or even cities because that day was not raining or something. At least Philippa believes in an order. An order were she is the ruler, but an order, nontheless. Also, this is Emhyr var Emreis we are talking about. Without Ciri out of the equation (if in the end she dies or she "dies") I seriously doubt that the The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies will allow Philippa to do anything but his own will.
