    Different system require different connection methods.
    1. For Stereo system we recommend connecting to the High Level input but the Low Level input works as well.
    2. For Theater Systems we recommend connecting to the High Level input and the LFE input.
    3. When High Level connection is not possible we recommend connecting to the Low Level input.

    i have a rel q200e, but since i moved, there is only bass one meter from the opposite walls, as i have a more or less square room, about five by five meters...same goes for the bass from the later purchased kef q7 main speakers...i guess this only works with having the couch set up against the back wall (or having a long rectangle room), but then my tv is to far away...the length of the sine wave of the bass tones is probably too long for a room like mine, or they cancel each other out in my sitting position.

    I have a Rel Quake added to a 5.1 system and this works really well, using both high and low level connections to the amp. The Quake suffers from intermittent hum, even when the amp is off. I have replaced the low level AV lead, and installed a mains conditioner. This seemed to do the trick for a while but the Quake is humming again. Would the T5i be the best like-for-like replacement for the Quake?

    I am comletely new to the domain of subwoofers - just got my first somewhat decent stereo system (Cambridge Audio CXA80+a pair of KEF LS50's). I use this very same system to watch movies and to listen to music through Tidal, Spotify and some local lossless files.
    Knowing myself I say I will go through a lot of amps before I find the right one. Therefore, this video got me confused a bit. These stereo integrated amps either have a single dedicated sub out (which is an RCA) or a pre-out which is stereo RCA.
    HOw would I connect a REL sub to either of these? The cable you use seems on one hand pretty special, on the other hand some amps do not have the dedicated sub out and I would be forced to use the pre-out. Where do I connect that?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 2 lety

      I can't seem to find what class of amplifier your integrated is, but if you contact Cambridge Audio they can let you know. It may also be listed in the manual somewhere. The best connection method would be using the high level cable. For that you don't need a subwoofer or pre out and it's a superior option to both. On your amplifier it would connect to the same speaker terminals as you main speakers. There are some slight variations based on which class your amplifier is, but once you figure that out you can look up the right method here. rel.net/blog/2018-01-04/how-to/how-to-connect-my-rel/

    Hello Rel! Questions please. Do you suggest going full range for movies/tv? Seems necessary if you are using the High Level input? if so, say for a Denon does this mean you need to set the speakers to large AND and do LFE plus main?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 4 lety +4

      We do recommend running your main speaker channels full range for home theater listening, especially if you are using the high level input on your REL subwoofer. Within your Denon receiver, this means that the speaker channels will need to be set to large and the subwoofer output will need to be configured to LFE + Main.

      To get the best performance both from the subwoofer and from your main loudspeakers, we recommend sending a full-range signal to the bookshelf speakers, and then setting the subwoofer's crossover below where the speakers naturally roll-off in their low-frequency extension in your room.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před rokem

      Thank you for reaching out, and we are sorry to hear about the output issues that you are experiencing. Based on your description it appears that the lack of output is specific to the .1/LFE channel on the S/510, which is connected to your Marantz AVR. I would recommend going into the Marantz and confirming that the subwoofer output is set to "on", and that your main speaker channels are set to "large" or "full-range" within the receiver, which should help the subwoofer to get more consistent signal during both 2-channel music and home theater listening. If making these adjustments does not help to improve the subwoofer's performance in your system, then at your earliest convenience please write in to contactus@rel.net and our team will be happy to assist with further troubleshooting.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 4 lety

      Since the Musical Fidelity M2si is a 2-channel amplifier, we recommend connecting a REL subwoofer using the High Level input rather than the left and right channel pre-outs. The high level input uses a specialty cable that is supplied with the subwoofer for connecting to the same output terminals on the amplifier as your main speaker wire.

    Mixing T/x and Old Q series
    Hi REL team,
    I am planning to implement a REL 3D set up with the below options.
    - A pair of T/9x subs for Left and Right (using High level connections and LFEs using splitter from one sub out). Will be used in both Home Theater & 2 channel Audio
    - T/5x for Center Channel (high level only)
    - A Pair of old Q108 subs (I already have these) , one for Side surrounds and one for Rear surrounds (using High level connections and LFEs using splitters from the second sub out)
    Do you see any issues with the above setup?
    Later I have plans to add 2 HT Subs for LFEs and all the T & Q subs will either use high-level only or will share LFEs will HT subs using splitters.
    Please let me know if you see any issues combining T, Q & HTs in one Home theater system.

The subwoofer options and configuration that you have described will work very well for use in a home theater system, and in our experience there should be no issue with combining Serie T/x, Serie HT, and Q Series REL models in the same system since they will be supporting different channels and performing different functions in this system.

    Hi and thank you for all the videos...
    I am a complete neophyte as far as sub woofers go but I was wondering 2 things: 1st: I was wondering, for who would use the low level input , should he also connect to the LFE (.1) as shown with the high level connected, for movies ? and 2nd, but this is where I might look very dumb, since the high level input allows for both the speakers and the sub-woofer to get the exact same signal at the same time, shouldn't the phase be already synchronized as opposed to a non high level input which might have a slight different timing ? And then if it's synchronized, shouldn't air pressure coming from either speakers or sub woofer be already automatically timed in phase ?
    Thanks for any answer, if you have the time and if I can understand them...
    By the way, on some other ground I read somewhere that the standby mode on some sub-woofers were only active for 220/240V market but not for the 100/110V. Is that the case ? And would that apply to the T/Zero ? Plus, is it a big deal if it's the case, or is it just an energy saving thing ?
    Thank you again.

      There are a lot of places along a chain where the phase can get wired inversely which is why we have a variable phase switch. All it's really doing is reversing polarity to match your speakers.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 4 lety

      Hello Samuel, since the Audioengine B1 only features a single pair of RCA outputs, it will be necessary to use a monitor switching device so that these outputs can send to both your Roland monitors and the REL T1's Low Level Input. The Drawmer CMC2 will work well for this application, though there are some less expensive options that will serve the same purpose.

      REL Acoustics. Could I not use a spitter cable - Phono to phone/XLR from one channel of the B1 to the sub and speaker? And if so which input on the sub? I know this wouldn’t be stereo sound, but would do for a while if doable. Until I get the Drawmer.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 4 lety

      @@picsaintloup5953 Using an RCA y-cable will work well as a temporary solution, though as you mentioned this will result in the subwoofer only receiving signal from one of the stereo channels. For this application, use the Low Level RCA input on the back of the subwoofer. This will allow you full use of the subwoofer's crossover control for tuning its output.

    Mixing T/x & HT Subs?
    Hi REL Team,
    I have plans to add a HT 1508 to the mix of 2 T/9x & 2 T7/x using Y splitters as follows.
    My AVR has 2 sub outs.
    First sub out - to 2 T9/x using a Y splitter (in addition to the high level inputs from Left & Right channels )
    Second sub out - to 1 T/7x (also connected to Rear Surround speakers using high level input) and 1 HT 1508 using a Y splitter.
    There is another T/7x connected to the center channel using High level input only.
    Will the HT blend well with rest of the T/9x and T/7x subs in my setup?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for reaching out. In a home theater system it is certainly possible to use Serie T/x subwoofers alongside Serie HT models, and this approach allows for a more balanced system sub-bass output that is fast and responsive while also being dynamic and powerful. The High Level and .1/LFE connections that you have described sound correct, though you may find that it is not necessary to send LFE signal to all subwoofers in the system. If the LFE output sounds boomy and overwhelming no matter how you set the Level controls on the subs, then you could one at a time disconnect the LFE inputs on the T/x subwoofers until a more manageable output is achieved.

    Hi! A question. I got a little confused. Maybe a dumb question but when you talk about home theater connection, it applies to a 2.1 channel?. For example, I have a Hegel H190 and LS50 Metas. Should I connect the Rel to the high level option and the LFE to the H190 when using them as a HT with my TV or just the high level input?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you for reaching out. We recommend connecting REL subwoofers using both their High Level input and .1/LFE input when used in a home theater system that utilizes an AV receiver/processor, which can process a separate LFE channel (for the REL's .1/LFE input) in addition to the signal from the main speaker channels (through the High Level input). Since your Hegel H190 is a two-channel integrated amplifier, and does not have a dedicated output for home theater LFE channel content, we would recommend connecting a REL to this amplifier using one of either the High Level input or the Low Level input.

    Why is the high level connector is so long and bulky? You have a great compact subwoofer, I mean T-Zero MKIII, it has low depth and then you suggest to use that protruding connector? That's the place you haven't thought enough.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 3 lety +1

      We use NL4/Speakon connectors for the High Level input on our subwoofers since they are locking connectors, meaning that they will not come loose during operation of the subwoofer. In addition, the NL4/Speakon connector is fairly unique in terms of home audio equipment, so there is less risk of users mistakenly plugging a line level signal (XLR or RCA) into the subwoofer's High Level input.

      The High Level input on our subwoofers is only intended for use with passive speakers, where the High Level cable can connect to the power amplifier's main speaker output terminals. When using a REL subwoofer with active speakers, where the power amplifier is built in to the speaker's cabinet, it will be best to use the Low Level input connection.

      The High Level cable for a REL can be connected either to the output terminals on the amplifier, or to the binding posts on the back of the speakers. As long as you are using reasonable quality speaker wire then either option will provide the same level of performance. That being said, connecting to the speakers is typically easier when using a stereo pair of subwoofers, since with a single subwoofer the High Level cable will need to reach to both the left channel and right channel speakers.

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you for reaching out. Since the Audiolab 7000a is a 2-channel integrated amplifier, it will be best to connect your REL to it exclusively using the High Level input. The .1/LFE input should only be used alongside the High Level input when connecting to an AV receiver that separately processes the LFE channel found in home theater material. In the case of 2-channel integrated amplifiers like your Audiolab, the preamp outputs are passing the same audio information as the main speaker output terminals.

      Thank you for reaching out. The High Level input on our subwoofers is designed to connect to the main speaker output terminals on your amplifier, alongside your main speaker wire. Typically the High Level cable will be connected to the outputs on the amp that are also powering your front left and front right channel speaker output terminals, though there are some scenarios where you will connect to different speaker channels. In addition, the specific way that the High Level cable is connected will vary depending on the model of amplifier that you are using and it's output stage design. For High Level connection instructions specific to your system, please write in to contactus@rel.net and our team will be happy to assist.
      The .1/LFE input on REL subwoofers is far more straight forward, since it connects to the subwoofer output jack on your AV receiver or processor using a standard RCA cable. If you are not using the subwoofer in a home theater system or are not connecting to an AV receiver or processor, then you do not need to connect to the .1/LFE input on the REL.

      When connecting using both the High Level input and the .1/LFE input, the subwoofer will be capable of receiving signal through both inputs at the same time. The High Level input will receive signal whenever your front left and right channel loudspeakers receive signal, while the .1/LFE input will only receive signal when there is LFE channel content present in the surround mix. Both inputs have separate Level controls, which allows for you to set each independently and prevents the subwoofer from becoming overloaded and distorting it's output.

    I have question , just received my new T7i. Sure and wanted to use with just standard Pioneer av receiver in both applications audio and video
    I fallowed your owners manual and did connection with 30 foot cable you supplied me and High Level input.
    After email your CS they said that I should it use this type of connection and only use RCA jack
    I watched just about all of your videos and getting bit confused , you mention that first and most we should, use the HighLevel connection since will carry most information on HT movie track and also will seamlessly blend Video and Audio signals, so far great !
    If I connect the Low signal input with RCA your other video says : it proper connection for : computer, tv, passive speakers and soundbar which none of them is what I intent to use it !
    So how do I understand this ? She said in email that if I use the High Low input and cable you provided me with purchase I will more likely damage my subwoofer.
    I do need someone to explain to me this better so I can understand how properly connect this sub to my exiting sytem

Based on your email correspondence with our service department you can use the High Level input connection with your subwoofer and amplifier, though it sounds like you are experiencing a ground loop hum when the black High Level wire is left disconnected. As a result, you will be able to use the High Level connection, though we will need to find a different way to establish a ground connection between your subwoofer and the amplifier. Since the Yamaha R-N803D is a 2-channel stereo receiver, we recommend connecting your REL subwoofer exclusively using it's High Level input and cable. Doing so will result in improved performance compared to the RCA sub-out connection. The R-N803D is a Class A/B amplifier, so you will be able to use the standard High Level connection method as outlined in the owner's manual for the subwoofer.

      Thank you for reaching out. It is possible to connect your pair of No.25 subwoofers directly to the Naim NAP 500 using the High Level input, though many Naim amplifiers have a unique output design which takes the impedance of the main speaker wire into account for the amp's output loading. This is why many Naim amplifiers require the use of Naim's proprietary speaker wire. As a result, in order to connect High Level directly to the NAP 500 it will be necessary to use the Naim version of our Bassline Blue High Level cable. The Naim Bassline Blue was designed with the help of engineers at Naim, and allows a REL subwoofer to be safely connected High Level directly to the amplifier.

This helps the subwoofer to blend more seamlessly with your main loudspeakers based on how they are performing in your room, rather than how the spec sheet suggests they will perform.
      To set Crossover, we recommend starting with the dial set to the minimum position, and the Level control set to a moderate value. While playing reference material with deep and consistent low-frequency impulses, slowly raise the Crossover dial, and stop once you begin to hear boominess and a lack of definition in the low-mid to upper-bass frequency range. From there, lower the Crossover control back down slightly, which should restore a more seamless blend.

I assume when connecting to high level, a "crossover" still needs to be set? Just for context, I came across the REL 3D home theatre and found this concept interesting. • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for reaching out. When connecting a REL subwoofer using it's High Level input, the main loudspeakers are sent a full-range signal and are allowed to play to their fullest potential as intended by their designer. The subwoofer will receive that same full-range signal, but with a low-pass filter crossover applied so that it only produces signal below where the main loudspeakers naturally roll-off in their low-frequency extension in your room. In our experience this approach not only results in more natural performance from the main loudspeakers, but also enables the subwoofer to focus on producing sub-bass output, rather than having it also produce low-mid signal that the main loudspeakers are more capable of producing accurately.
      By comparison, setting your main loudspeakers to "small" within the receiver and bandwidth-limiting their signal is unnecessarily limiting the signal that the main loudspeakers receive, and also making the subwoofer produce signal outside of it's optimal range. More information about the benefits of our High Level connection method can be found in the following article from our website: czcams.com/video/bnQOjCuoR9k/video.html

      Thank you for reaching out. The High Level input on our subwoofers has a significantly high input impedance, of approximately 150,000 ohms, which is the primary feature that allows the High Level cable to be connected to the amplifier's output terminals without placing any current load on the amplifier or drawing any power away from your main loudspeakers. Instead the subwoofer will draw only a small amount of signal which it then amplifies using it's own internal amplifier.
