  • A good subwoofer should disappear into the room, integrating with your music and movies instead of sticking out and being overly powerful. With this video you'll learn how to place a sub in your room and adjust the settings to blend seamlessly into your system for a better listening experience. We also discuss the different hookup methods you can use to connect your subwoofer to a receiver or processor.

    It took me an hour to find this tutorial and worth every minute, just wish it would come up first. I wanted to know how to set up a Subwoofer and all the other vids told me how to plug it ix and what to put the dials on. I did not want instructions for dummies. I wanted to know what all the buttons and nobs were for and you did than great, NO you did that the best. Thank you for a detailed PLAN English explanation on what they all do and how to adjust them. As a CZcams contributor my self doing How To Videos I know how hard it is to do what you did. I thought I was great at it but I learned a few things from you on the creative side also. Hope you keep producing videos like this.

      You've probably already solved this issue from two years ago, but I would start by getting rid of the Sony receiver and never consider owning another a or v device of that brand, unless you're ready to make a marriage-status commitment to Sony and do promise to have and to hold only Sony other components in your system until death do you part while the nature of the infinitesimal corporate beast lives indefinitely. Not because I dislike their products, but Sony has for awhile already been like Apple is now- monopolistic greed mongers whom just do not play well with others. Their unspoken exclusivity is just not a realistic approach to the world of audio and video. Most people have systems consisting of Kenwood this, with an Onkyo that. I personally don't like feeling limited to a brand when I'm adding to a system. Universality is paramount between devices and if all brands veer in the direction of Apple or Sony, (not to throw stones) just as examples, well what a controlled and contrived, disgustingly programmed society of robots this nation would be. Yuck. The U.S. were formed because the people wanted their own choices in life. Don't let "them" chip away at our freedom right under our noses with small things like this because if we fail to notice and ignore, the de-evolution of our society as the beast gradually but eventually finds its way into having control over bigger things over us, then it very well could be that one day when it's too late you realize you are affected when you get locked out of your own home in an emergency and are unable to get in.

      That is because that sub is not very good for music. With all subs placement, crossover setting and gain settings are critical. The better subs are so much easier to dial in. I would recommend running the Martin Logan speakers full range and adjust subwoofer starting with a low crossover of 50 or less and with a low volume setting and gradually increase volume a little at a time.

    I have a problem where playing music the sub sounds very good. but during playback of a movie sometimes the sound clips and you can hear the voice coil hit the magnet. I've tried all kinds of settings of the crossover in the receiver and the sub. it helps the most if I turn the LPF of the LFE to off in the crossover settings of the receiver. if I leave it set to any of the 80-120hz settings it hits the magnet really hard. something isn't right. I didn't have this problem with my old sony receiver. I have an Onkyo TX-NR686.

    Nice video! I am obsessed with people who prefer roof shocking bass, I respect their preference. However, a real subwoofer is a speaker that complements the whole system, playing frequencies that the main speakers are unable to handle, so to have a flatter frequency response. At 40Hz, the frequency response should be +0, not +10

    @michaelzoran Před 6 lety +2

    PHASE QUESTION: I often hear people ask, "Should I have my subwoofer set at 0 Phase or 180 Phase." This is an important question and I understand the logic behind it. If it was simply a matter of a Phase switch on a subwoofer, the answer would be fine - there would be only two possible choices (0 or 180). However, it is not that simple. My A/V Receivers from Onkyo and Sony allow me to select 0 or 180. This means there are FOUR possible scenarios. Those scenarios are:
    AV Receiver = 0 and Subwoofer = 0
    AV Receiver = 0 and Subwoofer = 180
    AV Receiver = 180 and Subwoofer = 0
    AV Receiver = 180 and Subwoofer = 180
    I fully understand that if you have your subwoofer in the front of the room, you should have both the A/V Receiver set at 0 and the Subwoofer set at 0.
    However, my confusion and question relates to when the subwoofer is in the back of the room. I know by subwoofer should be at 180 Phase. ... However, does this mean BOTH the A/V Receiver and the Subwoofer should be set at 180? Or does this mean only ONE of them should be set at 180?
    In other words, I'm asking if you want the Subwoofer set at 180, does that mean the A/V Receiver also needs to be set at 180?
    If not, does this mean placing both the A/V Receiver at 180 and the Subwoofer at 180 will create a form of 360 Phase?
    If you could explain this, I would appreciate it.

    • @theripper121
      @theripper121 Před 6 lety +3

      If you have a phase adjustment in the sub and receiver than its just an extra redundant control. Only make your changes to one control. Either leave the receiver at one setting and only change the setting on sub and listen to your preference or vise versa. Not both.

    • @Orcinus24x5
      @Orcinus24x5 Před 5 lety

      Actually, you still only have two real phase settings. 0 and 0 is the same as 180 and 180, and 0 and 180 is the same as 180 and 0.

    • @Turtleback8024
      @Turtleback8024 Před 2 lety

      I think the pertinent question we need to address first is: why we have "phase" in the first place? Then we can proceed to: which setting is best and when? Phase is basically the direction of the signal/speaker driver/cone movement, which has two categories: "in-phase": This is when your main speaker-drivers move forward/backwards at the same time as your subwoofer (setting is: 0 because this is the original position, without any subwoofer rotation). This is recommended if the sub/s is placed on the same side of the room as your main speakers, where there is no possibility of soundwave "collision" which can produce unexpected results in sound quality. Then there's: "out of phase": This is when the main speaker-drivers move in opposite direction to that of the subwoofer, that is; when the main speaker drivers move forward, the subwoofer driver moves backwards (setting is: 180, because you've rotated your subwoofer 180° to face your front mains) so as to avoid the soundwave "collision". This is mostly recommended in cases where the subwoofer is placed on the opposite end of the room, and is facing the main speakers. I've got my Receiver on one setting and I'd just toggle my phase-switch if I need to change phase, because the phase input on the Receiver basically tells the Receiver which direction the subwoofer is facing, which can be adjusted on the sub itself. My sub is set at 0 even though it's placed 90° to my mains because my sub can only do 0 or 180°, there's no in-between settings, and it's also due to lack of space😀

    For two channel setup I found that it's better to have two equal subs one on R playing R channel bass and vice versa. That way the bass in the music doesn't get pulled to one side or the other messing up your sound stage. Went with single sub setup for years but finally realized that which side the bass comes from actually does matter in music, not so much in movies though...

    • @roeland1205
      @roeland1205 Před 5 lety

      This depends on the speakers used and music listened. Most music has mono bass in the low end to keep other frequencies in their place. You dont want unnecessary competition for space in your mix as a mixer/master. I suspect it is more about the standing wave issue and better distribution of bass in your room.

    • @Orcinus24x5
      @Orcinus24x5 Před 5 lety +2

      if bass gets pulled to one side or the other with a single subwoofer, that means it's not set up right at all. It's either got bad room placement, the output level is far too high, or the crossover frequency is too high. Watch the video again and follow the instructions on proper subwoofer setup, and it will not pull the bass towards the sub.

    no. either the receiver needs 2 lfe hookups or you can run a splitter because most receivers with 2 lfe's are pre split inside the casing instead of actually running 2 seperate lfe signals. some of the nicer more expensive pre amps will have 2 seperate lfe hookups with 2 different signals

    is there a way to make my bass hit quick and hard (punches) instead of that loud and low annoying CONSTANT rumbling that drowns out all the vocals? thanks. This is for a car audio system

    Man the more I look into my setup the more I have it all wrong. Great vid but I'm soooo confused.I have a Klipsch Synergy 12. I connected just the "LEFT/LFE" to my receivers "sub out" It sounds great and all but when I connect another cable rca cable that's right next to it labeled" Right/line in" It sounded much louder. SO why is it most vids say just connect the lfe only? Also why cant I find a rca cable that have 3 male out in a 25ft length? All I see are 2 males out and then a 3.5mm stereo jack on the end which then I have to use a mono jack/to rca.. The 3 male RCA I do find all seen to be no longer then 15ft. Please help

    Why 70% of the main speakers bass extension? Aren't you missing that 30% then? Super interested! :)

    Great video, thanks you so much! A bit off topic but I have the Dynamo 700W and just noticed that when it is in stand by mode (Red light on) the Blue light continues to flash. Is that normal? I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere and ran across this vid, hope you don't mind the off topic question.
