    This film holds a special place in my heart as it was the first Star Trek film I got to watch in the theatres with my parents. My mom was so excited for it and even more excited to find out that it's success got ST:TNG the green light. While I'm not a big trekkie like my mom is, I still enjoy watching this movie. I like the condolences from Cast and Crew to the Challenger. Also i like they kept the promise to let the Chanllenger live on ---- as Geordis ship
    A little funfact about real lifes Challengers "teacher in space programm". Alongside Christa McAuliffe, the teacher Barbara Morgan also trained for the flight. It was by pure choise that Auliffe would end up on the Challenger and Morgan on the Endeavour. However, after Challenger, the "programm" was stopped until to 2007. Barbara Morgan started to space, on 8th August 2007. Making her the longest serving Astronaut with 21 ! years between first training and first flight.

    • @kengaroo67
      @kengaroo67 Před 2 lety

      A not so fun fact... The crew did NOT die when the Challenger exploded. Several members were still alive as the shuttle fell and died on impact with the Ocean.
      There was an inquiry done by the government and this news was released some time later, but it was buried deep in the papers. The myth that they all died in the explosion persists to this day. How do they know some crewmembers were still alive? They radioed an SOS after the explosion.

    Novelizations are generally based on early shooting scripts, not the final script and certainly not the cut/filmed version. So often there are little gems and hidden vignette that never make it to the filmed version. This is obviously so the novel can be released simultaneously with the film.
    The three that stand out from Vonda's treatment.
    1 - Akira Sulu
    2 - Kirk uses a Vulcan neck pinch in the hospital, looks down at his hand, and exclaims, that worked, that never worked before.
    3 - Scotty is well aware that Dr. Nichols actually did invent Transparent Aluminum, and so he presumes that providing the formula is simply your everyday predestination paradox.

      @Fortaker Před 2 lety +4

      I think the idea is that she's pregnant with Spock's child. In The Search for Spock she had to help Spock when he underwent Pon Farr. As we learn in Amok Time, Pon Farr was fatal unless resolved, and the only way to overcome the Pon Farr was either through a "Passion Fight" with another male or through sexual intercourse with a female. I think it's highly unlikely that Spock fought against David to release his urges. Thus, the only real way to resolve the issue is to assume that Saavik had sex with Spock to help him survive. Many fans assume that Saavik didn't return with Kirk and company to Earth because she was pregnant with Spock's child.
