  • SounDesign was an inexpensive audio brand so its equipment wasn't high quality. This recorder was apparently part of a "system" that included a matching record player (photos included). That's probably why there is a 12V output jack on the back. The dubbing/play deck doesn't work properly and microphone recording is horrible but the radio works fine and the record/play deck works well as demonstrated.

I actually used to have a Soundesign stereo system like this one, though mine actually had a CD player as well! Mine was a model number 5999BLK from 1990 which I bought at the thrift store a year or two ago, but I ultimately got rid of it due to the fact that the CD player completely crapped out on it, as well as the AM tuner.

That dc output was for the matching turntable that went with the unit.

Either the deck deck needs a new belt or a new/repaired pause flywheel.

Is that what was also used to record talk shows via slow speed?
