The day I decided to only focus on hydration in my skin care (on top of SPF and gentle cleansing) and cut out the retinol and vitamin c and exfoliating and acne ingredients (I have some mild hormonal acne) and fighting oiliness (I have combo sensitive skin) and all that stuff, my skin changed completely. It looks and feels healthy and plump and bright and soft. Skincare is so oversaturated in actives, and our skin is feeling the damage.

Yes, I have sensitive skin and I can relate to all the above-mentioned points. My skin aggravates whenever I shave, use a drying wash-off mask. Even cleansing brushes are a big no to my skin. As for sunscreen I use Suncross matt finish spf 50 and it works well for me. It's a mineral sunscreen that leaves a very minimal white cast.

Thank you, Dr. Dray, for being so detailed and informative. I am 73 and extremely fair-skinned, with highly sensitive, reactive skin. I have always avoided the sun and worn sunscreen, so I am pretty unwrinkled for my age. Can I give a shoutout to Aveeno Ultra-calming products? The ultra-calming daily moisturizer, along with the ultra-calming nourishing night cream, have been my holy grail products for many years now. Those products, along with the Cerave cleanser, are a simple and highly effective routine. Any time I try new products I end up returning to these products. The Aveeno Ultra-calming moisturizer contains a spf 15 sunscreen, so I know I am getting at least that everyday. For days I know I will be in the sun for an extended period I add the Elta MD spf 41 for extra-sensitive skin. I use the Cerave cleanser with a rough washcloth (gently, of course) so that’s it for exfoliation. All in all, a simple routine that keeps my skin very happy.

@@katiagonzalez7784 According to instructions on the tube, the elta MD sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours. I use the tinted version instead of a foundation so it’s no big deal to reapply. I always wear a rimmed hat, too. With my fair skin I really need to avoid too much sun.

Thanks for your comments as I am a super fair senior with reactive, sensitive, redness-prone skin. Aveeno Calm+Restore oat gel moisturizer for sensitive skin is very soothing. Their C+R cleanser was too irritating. Aveeno Ultra-Calming daily moisturizer spf 30 is comfy on the skin but pills. (Combo dry-oily skin) Must go check out that Elta MD spf 41 for extra-sensitive skin. If the tint works for you, it might just work for me! :)

I have an extremely sensitive skin and recently switched to La Roche Anthelios mineral face sunscreen that actually burns when I put it on my face. I have been also using La Roche-Posay adapalene gel for over a month now with no issues until I introduced the new sunscreen to my skin regimen. Rosacea, eczema and thin pale skin. I get atopic dematitis very easily. I also have comedonal acne. Fun life! I can't use product that are too heavy or rich because of the acne, but not too aggressive because of eczema and rosacea🤦🏻‍♀️.
But, I do react well to BHA because it does somewhat have anti inflammatory properties and calms redness. BHA, HPR and Azelaic acid = happy skin.
Big No No's are EO, those perfumes that has to be listed like cinnamal, physical exfoliation. Too much HA seem to irritate as well. Tretinoin is a big trigger for my rosacea, as well as many face oils. Squalene works perfectly fine.
It's a fun life having sensitive skin. Trial and error most of the time with products.

Today's Denver Post (8/28/21) had a feature story about the effects of smoke from wildfires on your skin. The oxidative stress to the skin and internal organs is significant. :( I have sensitive skin and have been following your recs for reducing redness. I have recently added Eucerin CoQ10 cream to my regimen and Anthelios Melt In Sunscreen because both products contain antioxidants. The dermatologists who contributed to this article also recommended applying moisturizers with ceramides as a barrier agent to trap particulates in the smoke (they are 2.5 microns ) and to shower every night to wash them off. Long sleeves and long pants are also recommended, as is using KN95 masks. It's hot here, so wearing long sleeves and long pants presents a challenge.

I tried & it’s OK but I found other products more effective, like Procure Rosacare, which Dr. Dray recs. It’s not bad & James Welsh likes it.

Multi purpose skin care product recommendations would be an awesome video too! I like to keep the minimal amount of care products, so knowing what product I can use for both my face, body, hair, feet, etc. would be very helpful

She's said that you can use things like body lotion on the face and vice versa (just depends on price and how to product feels). You don't need an eye cream as your regular moisturizer should work (but again, YMMV). The same with sunscreen. And that night and day designations on products mean nothing as you can use them anytime (it's just a way for brands to get more money). She's also said you can use a SPF lip balm around your eyes if you find sunscreen irritating around there.

I love your channel and you! Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with pressure urticaria. I was diagnosed with it, but wasn't given much help. Also, why would my skin peel off after I take a shower and dry with the towel? It's little oblong pieces... nothing huge. Thank you!

Chemical sunscreens can really sting my eyes so I usually go in with a mineral sunscreen at least over my eyes to prevent that stinging throughout the day.

Have you tried an oxybenzone free sunscreen? "Reef safe" sunscreens are oxybenzone free and that's the ingredient in sunscreen that burns my eyes.

I have sensitive skin and I ONLY use chemical spfs! I used to neglect spf bc I hated mineral sunscreens, which strangely would burn me sometimes when they’re marketed as better for sensitive skin.

I have very sensitive skin and got laser hair removal. Super pale with very dark hair. I highly recommend it but if you can take Benadryl take some. I get what looks like a rash for 1-2 days after. I was told this is normal and actually ideal meaning its really working, which it has. Side note do not take Biotin if you get laser. It can ruin your results. I messed up and took it and my first two appointments were basically wasted. I have a few resistant hairs and use an epilator on the stragglers which just yanks the hairs, hurts but less irritation to my skin.

    Video summary:
    - Exfoliant to use: PHA.
    - Avoid stinging by using fewer number of products (gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen).
    - For sensitive eyelids, be aware of everything coming in contact with them (nail polish, fragrance, herbs and spices from the kitchen, hair/facial products, etc.). Apply a balm to protect the sensitive area.
    - You can use retinol, even for sensitive skin. Check her other video on how to get started on it.
    - Ingredients to avoid: menthol, fragrance, essential oils, some preservatives (parabens, phenoxyethanol), etc. Don't use the same ingredient from many products. E.g., if your moisturizer already has niacinamide, you don't need a separate niacinamide serum.
    - You can take supplements but they aren't very helpful. Talk to your healthcare provider for it. Avoid oral vitamin A.
    - Moisturize.
    - Laser hair removal will be a good option for hair removal. Chemical depilatories can be sensitising. If you are shaving, moisturize after.
    - Opt for mineral sunscreens. But chemical works for you as well as long as you can use it daily. Combination of both works best.

I have Eczema prone skin. I normally don’t have issues with depilatory creams but had a bad reaction this weekend. 😱
There is a negative to this particular Avene line in that they have a short shelf life when opened.
Would you consider doing a video on the Trish Paytas skincare brand launch “scandal”?

Dear Dr Dray, many thanks for the video & I was wondering if there are known ingredients in eyeliner that cause discoloration in sensitive skin? In the past it has caused mi skin to loose its color for many months, so I avoid it, and although I would not use eyeliner daily, sometimes it would be nice to be able to, and also I would like to be well informed about ingredients that are so harsh that remove skins pigment (!). Thanks for all of your fantastic contents and help 🤩😀
