This is true. I quite like Heath Ledger's performance and Peter Stormare is a riot.

But even being arguably the worst Gilliam movie, it's more entertaining and interesting than most contemporary cinema. I mean you can really enjoy some of the performances.

Holy shit, Mark you weren't messing about, saying Ehren Kruger was a hack:
'He is best known for writing three of the five films in the Transformers film series which are Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction.'
He's not a hack: he the DEVIL'S OWN HACK FROM THE DEPTHS OF SCRIPTWRITING HELL.

No one else likes The Brothers Grimm apart from me. It really wasn't bad at all.

Each director muffs it from time to time
Spielberg had Hook (which i like)
    Cameron had Abyss
    Carpenter had The Fog
    Fincher had Alien 3
Jackson had The Lovely Bones (which i like)
Gilliam has The Brothers Grimm (which i still like)

Not getting his first-choice DP is the worst thing that could have happened: even worse than the uninspired script.

Its not a great movie, but its certainly an entertaining and bold one.

Kermode actually liked Baron Munchausen! I thought i was the only one. Although brothers Grimm is (as Mark Kermode says) probably the least Giliam film he's ever made it is still very enjoyable.

Without being overly analytically I can say I enjoyed watching this film. If Mark watched Brothers Grimm again now after all the other Disney fairy tale movies we've had in the last couple years I'd think he'd realise that it is very Gilliam and not very mainstream at all comparatively.

I agree. Mark has also said that he prefers dark Gilliam to light Gilliam, whereas for me it's the exact opposite. So that's going to affect his perception of the movie as well.

I enjoyed Brothers Grimm, though it is definitely not one of Gilliams better films.

I completely agree with Mark on this one. Love Gilliam's films, always have, but The Brothers Grimm is a mess. I don't blame him for it, in the same way I don't blame David Fincher for Alien 3, but still; it's the one film in his canon that I dislike.

Avatar is a lot better than Transformers. Kermode would agree.

@frasierfreak92 Depends what you mean by 'good'. If you are easily impressed by loud noises and visual gimmicks then i guess Avatar is good as well as the Transformers movies.

The film’s stylish, well acted & well characterised, however the film’s direction, writing, effects & pacing is poor & is more fantastical then biographical. (38%) (2/5 stars) (mixed)
