1942? Is there something else at work here or will this go down as the biggest choke job in sports?

- So the minute the Edmonton Oilers went down 3 games to 0 against the Florida Panthers the hockey media immediately talked about 1942 the only time a team came back from 3-0 down to do the reverse sweep to win the Stanley Cup. Now the Oilers are half way to that reverse sweep so is there something else at play here or will this go down as one of most epic choke jobs in sports history?

As an oiler fan i can completely tell you its not rigged. We have suffered long with busts of 1 overall picks. To sidney crosby come into the leauge and get a cup really quick we were thinking it would still not arrive here. This team is just amazing. Period. Full stop. What a season

You're right in what you said that this will destroy the Panthers Franchise forever. No way to recover from this, especially in a warm weather market like South Florida where all the other teams have won championships. No one wants to be attached to that stigma.
The Panthers are my 2nd favorite team, and I've been cheering for them throughout these playoffs, and especially in these Finals. I would love to see them win their 1st ever Stanley Cup. But I'm very confident, they just completed the greatest choke in sports history. Up 3-0, they lose 8-1 in game 4. I wasn't panicing, as I thought it was 1 off game. But they didn't bring their A game tonight, and let the Oilers have their way early on. Losing on home ice tonight, the way they did, seals the fact for me that they just completed the greatest choke in sports history. And, Edmonton is my least favorite team, and has been for many years. Congratulations to me.
The Oilers beat the Panthers 5-3 in Game 5 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final and forced Game 6 in Edmonton. If the Oilers win Game 6 in and then Game 7, they will win their 1st Stanley Cup since 1990, bring the oldest major professional sports trophy in North America back to Canada for the 1st time since 1993 when the Canadiens last won the Cup, and become the 1st team to win the Stanley Cup after losing the first 3 games since the Maple Leafs in 1942.

The games aren’t fixed, but yes i’m sure all of the gambling companies love it. Why wouldn’t they “fix” the NBA? It’s more popular and more money is probably being wagered on bets. People seem to think Florida dominated the first 3 games, well Edmonton was the better team in game 1, they just got goalied big time. Had Edmonton won game 1 they’d be up 3-2 in the series.
All of the big 4 North American men’s professional sports leagues classify themselves as “sports and entertainment” leagues.
You were a prisoner of the moment. Nothing that happened in the previous games was going to have any impact on Game 7. And McDavid did nothing in Game 7. Skinner was never going to outplay Bobrovsky 4 games in a row.
Or it’s all rigged like many people think.
