â@unrealmango lmfao a truck has plenty of torque. Word you're looking for is traction*. Which a very heavy truck has plenty of(normally). The ramp is actually a pit filled with light sand/gravel/etc. The wheels quickly sink once it slows down, and is how it slows the truck

That pass is why my dad and I always carry a fire extinguisher in our cars, its the only place we have ever lit our brakes on fire, even with 90% being engine decel, that last 10% can still get the drums on our f350 cherry red.
If there wasn't traffic like there is it'd be easy to just engine brake the whole way but that would mean we'd have to hold 75+ in 3rd for it to hold without brakes.
Also random fun fact, chip bags will sometimes explode while going over that pass from the drop in air pressure.
â@russellschlack3950 just you saying "chip bags exploding" enough for me to wanna take a trip with a car full of chip bags...

For those who don't know, there are these spots on mountains that are filled with sand to stop semi-trucks. They might need these spots incase their brakes fail, as they have air brakes that can be messed up and be non-functional after going up a mountain and back down.
because of the height difference or due bad maintenance or wrong braking ?
u can fuck up brakes if u brake alot downwards where u could just shift into low gear and brake mostly with ur engine.
â@sebastianleister355 not all trucks have jakebrakes because of the noise , do you know anything about weight and how hard it is to stop , acting like it's only a did you do you Maintenance correctly has nothing to do with the weight of the vehicle. And how hard it is to stop them

Trucks have been known to be going so fast they fly off those ramps
The ramps that it happens on must have been made poorly.
They are usually made of sand or other material into which the truck sinks into and gets caught.

This is my fathers footage. He said that he woke up when he reached the bottom. He rememberd leaving the truck stop 80 or 90 miles away and thats it. Anyway he was ok and carried on avoiding any further troubles and weigh stations.
My assumption here is that the safest path is to make an effort to stay straight on the way up and remain close to the reinforced retaining wall to ensure that once forward momentum stops and gravity takes over, a quick turn of the wheel will salvage whatever remains of the trailer while planting the drive tandem softly into the barrier?.
Let's see the grade school English teachers make a sentence structure diagram of that one! Haaa.
Seriously though.. in my years of driving, it was interesting to see the wheel patterns and try to decipher the split-second decision making or logic being applied to navigate the crisis.
We drove by one of thoes like 3 weeks ago. I was wondering how that was used. Thanks.
I've seen this happen in real life once. The truck went flying up that ramp! On his way back down, he wedged it into the concrete wall. What a crazy sight to see
They have to be deep with sand, not uphill, to prevent heavy vehicles from rolling back
These are on I-70 about an hour and a quarter outside Denver, CO. Super helpful for trucks because that hill is almost an 18% grade for 4 miles
Who ever though of runaway ramps is a genius
Not "genius" but experienced. Someone in the field would be aware of the possible dangers and failures compared to somebody not in that field at all. Which would give them ideas on what can occur and what we can do compared to somebody who has no idea on the dangers so why would anyone come up with an idea like that in a field they have no knowledge/ experience in

These are meant for truckers, that way they can slow down before reaching a hill. So they donât burn there breaks going down.
We should be investing in our own roads and infrastructure before anything else
As a (former) trucker, this is why you gotta downshift and use your jake brake!
Wish we had that here, our brake failed and we flew off our bike like a few months ago.đ
Since 2003 the use of these ramps has increased by 3289% in Canada

Imagine the fear when he started going backwards đ
Reminds me of Cabbage Patch in Oregon. Not the scariest grade to go down at 80k but if dont know what youre doing, youre gonna end up in one of those for sure. Seen a guy smoking his breaks at at least 50mph down the last straight going west and thought the whole thing was gonna go up in smoke. Them jakes are your friend. Get in the right gear and use em
Whats the average cost of having your rig pulled out, and who does it?
Edison motors hybrid electric diesel fixes this issue by using regenerative braking so you donât get over heated brakes or brake fade.
If you have a full battery it bleeds the power off through the diesel generators engine brakeâŠ

In #India, we have integrated this in almost all city roads in #Bangalore. No special lane needed. Anytime , anywhere
Once, just a few weeks ago, I was driving on this road early in the morning (in an SUV) and it was super icy, almost slid off the road and the guy in front of me did a 180. Cant imagine the terror of getting through that in a truck.

That ramp must be at 30 or 35 degree angle
So the speed of truck is maybe
