    The old ones i bash out with a socket and a sledge. The new ones i really clean up where they go in. I take fine sand paper and brake cleaner until its sparkly clean. Then i take a dab of machine oil and wipe it on with my finger. Destroyed too many ujoints and learned the lesson.

      Turned out fine, used the hammer, socket, and block of wood method.

    Not a bad tactic. I just prefer the socket and hammer method on a block of wood. Seen caps become cracked and needles misaligned from people doing the threaded press method and done it myself. Whatever gets it done ✔️

    I've got that tool, but that joint will not move. See if I can find a shop with a hydraulic press.
    It's always so much easier on youtube.

      lol put it under tension with the remover then whack the ears with a hammer and itll usually pop loose

      Socket and sledge hammer. You don't got to be gentle with the old ones. Your replacing them.

    I got to the point about 2:45 in the video. My cap is sticking out half way, but it's just stuck in there. I can't move it out for the life of me. The other side of the driveshaft came out no probs. The side I'm having probs on isn't even as rusty as the one in this vid, but the damn thing is stuck in there good. Any recommendations? Torch on the outside for a bit and try again maybe?

      Know this is old but bet one of the needle bearings got caught up.

      From Montana but yeah basically it's got its share of rust. Rough life with me too, no cover and I use it to drive around in the snow

      I've seen people whack at the broken clips with screw drivers and then just try to hit the end with a screwdriver and get it to spin and loosen up.
