LGA 775 PC upgrading problem chain:
1. Need a new graphics card!
2. For a new graphics card, I need a new processor!
3. For a new processor, I need a new motherboard!
4. For a new motherboard, I need new RAM!
5. Why should I upgrade everything in my old PC case, if it's a completely different PC!
6. Holy shit, I need a new PC.
Try Living with a LGA1156 Motherboard!
+Rotten Banana that was a funny socket from Intel. It was cheaper than lga 1366 but lga 1366 actually had a longer lifespan.
Jack Loggins ikr.
Nonono,
1. New gpu
2. Need new CPU for GPU
3. * gets lga 771 xeon *
4. Profit.
WhatThePotato i am doing everything on the list except #3
People is selling this types of pc on craigslist for like $900.
Gotta love that people...
"Gaming PC with Quad Core CPU"
+Luis Ortiz hahaha :D
+Luis Ortiz Meh, Its not always the case, I saw a guy a couple days ago selling a very decent gaming rig for only 600$. Cost of the part if bought new was around a 1000$. That said, I agree that some people stretch their luck a bit too far.
+Luis Ortiz yea hate to see such kind of selling ads around; quad core CPU! 2GB vram! gaming PC! max out XXX games! flashy ads pictures! MORE flashy ads pictures!
The title and general description don't even have any specific info until dive into the details at the end of the page / in small texts... a bunch of crap almsot a decade ago.
Totally scam.
+xone5447 i saw one idiot with even better price once. a new r5 230 with a cheapo pentium/celeron and a craptastic psu worth 10 bucks and he calls it a gaming pc and sells for $500
once saw 2 quad core xeons, 32 gb ram and a 2 cpu socket motherboard for $100. not bad
Upgrading problems:
1. Need a new GPU.
2. For a new GPU I need a new PSU.
3. For a new PSU I need a new case.
4. For a new GPU I need a new CPU.
5. For a new CPU I need a new motherboard.
6. For a new motherboard I need new RAM.
7. Might as well get that all watercooled.
8. Well shit...
😂😂😂😂

+A Kid From Africa i have a old motherboard at least 8 years olds and im up grading to a asus B85-Pro gamer motherboard but my current motherboard has 4 ram intotal 8gb of ram and i was wondering if i could use thoose ddr3 ram with this new mobo? the mobo suppurts DDR3-SDRAM and the slot is DIMM i dont know anyrhing about the ram i think they are ddr3
+A Kid From Africa kids from africa could have eaten your pc. Oh wait you are a kid from africa
why would you need a ew cpu for a gpu? are you using a i3 and want a 950 or something?
So, basically, nothing is salvageable.
Hard drives, optical drives, and SATA cables
the power supply
OK, but OTHER THAN the HDD, the SATA cable, the fans, the opticial drive and the power supply, NOTHING is salvageable ...
Pat Powers Also if you have a Core 2 Duo, keep the CPU, motherboard, and RAM for another few years. A Core 2 Duo is still a good processor, even in 2016
Yeah, I'm running a gaming computer off a Core2Duo ... using it right now, even as we "speak."
TL;DR
Hard drives
+Nathan Young You lost me at "TL"
Depends, really. If you come from having a single system and you want to keep having only a single system, hard drives (and possibly fans) are indeed the only usable component to carry over. I think it makes a lot of sense, however, to take an old system, put it in a new case and add a slightly better graphics card, and use it as an HTPC or something similar.
+Earnest Bunbury CZcams viewers average attention span is at arround 16 seconds, i think.

0:00 ok lets see....
0:20 holy shit this is exactly my pc
My high school threw out 20+ computers and I was able to strip them before the garbage truck came.
Stripped the Duos and Athalons along with DDR2 Ram and took a hammer to the hard drives before throwing the new anchors back in the dumpster
Staring Intensifies Err... wut?
Max Pare my dad gives me bad pre build pcs that he found in old houses for renvation. i have 5 pcs and i have got ddr3 what is pretty good and i got like 30 gb on ram but i think tho gonna sell that and a got 4 amd cpus and those i gonna sell as wel and i spare my money on my pc i have buyt some ddr3 ram (hyperx fury).
Lucky. I’d like to do that some day
Static My school uses all-in-one PCs and replaces them rarely.
So much respect for that last part!
watching this makes me wanna sneeze.
Duuud me too
I just sneezed as I read your comment....
@@leemathoo6583 wtf i did 2..
When your so early the title isnt even spelled correctly
Sorry I was half asleep when posting
+Koa Jurgensen *you're
Did HP pull a Dell? It looks like the layout is backwards. With the case door open on a standard PC, the "front" is on the right side and the back is on the left. I've had a lot of Dells, am I seeing it wrong? I didn't think HP had any proprietary designs.
+Awesomesauce Network Hhaha hey im making my first PC and I was wondering if you could help with the partslist? pcpartpicker.com/p/YgChcf (ill mostly be using it for gaming)
+Koa Jurgensen do you really need 16gb of RAM? The majority of gaming pcs do not need more than 8gb and I also only started to hit that limit when I had 20+ aktive CZcams Chrome tabs open w/ videos waiting to be downloaded and Adobe Premiere Elements running (and Photoshop "idling"). And probably some other programs..
my computer is so old
the side panel opens on the right side
Tpiledriver i have it too in my optiplex 755 from 2007, for fuck fucking sake
Tpiledriver i got windows 98....
PomPom OH YEAH!?! WELL MY COMPUTER IS SO OLD... ehh I got nothing
I have a computer so old it has 2 floppy disk drives, runs windows xp, has a pci slot card just to provide it with a wired ethernet connection (not built into the mother board), and it's best video port is vga (even on it's video card). The dust inside of it actually started to form together like cobwebs. Luckily it is an old thing I picked up for free and not my main computer.
Mine has a btx Mobo and it’s shit cos I can’t put mine in a normal case and the cpu is lga 1155 and it costs like $150 Aus Dollar For It
"in most cases" lol i get it
Lol 😂
Cheesy pun. I like it

I know it's old school, but I love having a CD ROM in my new system. Besides, you never know when you're going to need it
Yes yes yes
agree and know i need a floopy drive ;)
You should take some of the memory out of this and put it in your neighbor's old HP Pavilion.
+waynet68 Gr8 idea m8. Do it Kyle pliz he deserves more RAM :(
that also came in my mind when he mentioned DDR2 😂
Probably, yes. DDR2 is getting quite rare in computer shops these days, but there's still lots of computers running it, so DDR2 sticks fetch a surprisingly fair price on the second-hand market...
+waynet68
Yeah, Ive seen some PCs with AM2+ motherboards but have some of the 'higher end' AM3 CPUs, like the Phenom II 965 that are still alright to this day. - specially if your a non gamer.
Most of the ones Ive seen had 2GB of RAM so upping that to 4, 6 or 8 is always gives a nice performance boost.
+Robert Faber Yeah, I went to buy RAM for my dad's old computer and it was more expensive than the RAM for my new laptop, it's crazy.
I always cut the wires from PSU, you never know when you need wires for side projects
+SeljD Nice idea. Makes sense.
+SeljD Just hang on to it. I used power supplies for all kind of things. Even if it is a power supply that isnt great. Used old powersupplies on things from testing a fan, to charging my rc lipo's. You can do a lot of things with old powersupplies.
But if it is dead i also cut the cables.
+Erwin Holland Used my old to power a car amp and radio for a party I threw, it was actually a great idea !
+Erwin Holland Yes, I use old power supply's too for all kinds of testing and what not.I could reuse a lot of stuff on that old case.I hate the pink and green audio jacks but the come in handy, caps and diodes, resistors.rewrite ic's harvest that stuff .the card reader..etc .Parts is parts. The metal the case was made from.I love scrap. lol the plastic how ever recycle.
+SeljD there's a bunch of copper in them. the random colors are handy too.
Install linux , then continue to use that old pc, and use it for surfing or light work.
Buy new components for new pc
Or Remix OS (yes, I know it's technically linux, but desktop android? lul)
Dual boot OS 👍

+Awesomesauce Network hopefully with a camera :p
Awesomesauce Network Well, I guess I can cross 'get a reply from Kyle from AwesomeSauce Network' off my bucket list! ;D
I read this just as it happened
I want this PC because it's better than mine :)
+DestroyerTV For other people well... they have PC (Personal Computer) well... for me I have a Samsung laptopt and PC stands for (Purely Crap)
+DestroyerTV what a loser
JackLondon Not all people have money you ass. I to do not have a pc that can run cs:go
I have a gaming laptop but i need to buy a desktop
DestroyerTV I just have a laptop *non* gaming or being able to watch videos in 720p60fps
I thought the stuff about people saying OEM PSUs were ticking time bombs was just them being paranoid but recently I learned my lesson the hard way. I used an old PSU from a very similar system (Lite On 300W) in my rig and the other day I tried to turn in on. Long story short It probably killed my MoBo, RAM, and CPU! So take it from me, wait for the new GPU, the new CPU, use a little less RAM for A bit and get a new PSU from a reputible brand. And remember kids, "cheap comes out expensive" - My Mom 2k16
Dayummmm can we got some Fs in the chat?

Wonder when people 20 years into the future look back and say,"Those idiots payed 1200$ for a grandmatistic Titan XP. AND Nvidia only offered two per peoson. HA!
As they enjoy consumer grade equiptment running 100 billion tflops
For the record the first PC I bought was a 2014 toshiba that I though was next generation then. Laugh as I tell you it had no dedicated graphics and a 4 core A-6 AMD cpu in it with a turbo of up to 2.4 ghz
To think my first pooter was an Intel P.133 and I put in a voodoo 2 graph card, thought I was the bees knees, lol.
BurningGlory and a 1080 Ti is something you’d find in a dumpster around town 😂
There used to be a time (the 90s) when a CD-ROM drive cost $1000 and sound cards were a luxury.
Let that sink in.
Sound cards are still kinda expensive. It's just that now computers have decent built in sound now.
Good god, my desktop old pc is 15 years old. Growing its own ecosystem from dust, needless to say the fans are unsanitary. Only possible salvage pieces are a 120gb sata hard drive and maybe some cables + the case.
I appreciate how you used lots of visuals to assist newbies like me lol!
Anyone one else want to clean the dust from that pc? lol
No I have that same dusty piece of shit but I guess I can reuse the optical drive?
lol i just dont like seeing dust in pc's.
and sure as long as its a sata connection. I'm reusing my old optical drive. actually you can probably get a IDE to SATA adaper if you wanted too or had too. which is around $7.
I just today upgraded my 4 year old prebuilt pc. I upgraded it with a gtx 1070. The case had never been opened before. You wont believe how much dust it had everywhere.
I've been using the same prebuilt office PC for almost 9 years now, wasn't opened up 'til recently. It made the PC in the video look spotless.
lol dang.
Thank you for this video! I'm a first time pc builder and I've got 3 outdated pcs just lying around. Might as well put that ol' cpu cooler to good use!
Captain Cornflake
Upgrade the PC from the scratch
Ancient relic? That PC? My last computer had 12 years old, being used mostly everyday. I changed it cuz it became such a pain in the ***. I couldn't watch any Internet videos including from CZcams. It started taking 30 secs or so for the right click on the desktop to refresh. It was taking around 10 minutes for a complete startup.
10 Minutes to start up? Wow that's fast compared to my old PC. You had to plan the day before when you were going to use your PC for the next day. Boot time: 7 Hours.
+Josh Hayes I lost my power button on my first laptop, and then the turn on switch itself went south.. Boot up time? sometimes an hour, sometimes impossible :D it felt like an achievement to see the little green lights come on and hear the sound of the running fans :b
Install Linux mint xcfe it is great
Often these old PCs have DVD or sometimes Blu Ray drives, and these can make good HTPCs. Even if they don't have a Blu Ray drive, those are dirt cheap now. I would just disassemble, clean out, then reassemble it, before putting it in an entertainment center. :)
2:10 I would say it is more dependent on the case and how old the computer is that you are upgrading from in addition to if the computer is store bought 'stock' or custom built. If custom built, the power supply and case could be totally fine. In most cases though, the video is most likely correct.
I have that same rig sitting in my pc graveyard, after watching your video has given me the knowledge to helpfully reuse some parts! Thanxs:)
"Grandmatism" "slower than tree sap" LOL where do you come up with these great lines? I love it!
Fun fact: my current computer has a Skylake CPU and motherboard, a Nvidia Pascal graphics card, an m.2 SSD, ...
...and a mostly-unused DVD±RW/CD-RW drive salvaged and recycled repeatedly from an old Acer pre-built computer from nearly a decade ago. :P
Also I have been using my old Cooler Master Silencio 550 case for 5-6 years now; new cases definitely look prettier and has better front I/O, but my current case has served me well all these years through different builds, as well as sporting unique features that are hard to find in other cases: an SD card slot, and an internal hard drive dock on the front.
You should take your dads old PC and max it out as far as it can go. Get fastest CPU that that mobo support, fastest ram and the fastest six pin pci power gpu that can fit and see what u get, and why? Just cause.
That was great. I just updated my 2010 Dell XPS. Interesting to see someone else's old tech from same timeframe.
🤣 I’m dead about the windows vista remark @ 1:08 …brutally honest comedy is the best!!🤣🤣💀💀
Alternatively, re-purpose the PC, install it Linux, or make it into a gaming retro system!
that way it'll live longer.
I slapped a Athlon X4 880K & GTX 970 into a former Pentium 4 + Nvidia MX2 pre-built. :D
You have no idea of how happy I was when you said my Harddrive was reusable!!!
Something to note is that you could always mod an old case with some hidden fans on the bottom and have a killer sleeper pc case. especially if you can find the parts that will fit inside
The old case can be used for an external rad box with some slight modification. Everything else except the power supply can be saved to swap into friends and families comps to upgrade older slower hardware.
Side note: Format the hard drive as soon as you get it. You REALLY don't want to pay for the shrink you'll inevitably be forced into going to see when you learn just what your parents liked to look at before everything was saved online.
OMG that was the same PC i replaced last month!!! I even reused the hdd and the cd drive!
+Bilal Ali Did your hdd have the OS on it? If so, did you lose all your files and have to do a fresh OS install?
It did. In my new build i had a ssd for windows, which i had a spare copy of lying around so i used the hdd as a secondary for games and files, and in the BIOS i made the ssd my boot drive
Bilal Ali Thanks! I have an HP as well and was thinking about reusing the 2TB hdd.
Its a good idea, it can save you at least 60-80 on your build by using it asa a secondary drive, and you could even use the saved money to buy an ssd, since my 120gb ssd cost me only 45 bucks, and keep your OS and programs on there, and games on your hdd, since they don't need the added speed
How can I Reuse my HDD..can anyone give a Videolink or Article link
My dad gave me a 10 year old gaming pc for Christmas. The processor, ram, hard drive, and fans were good enough to handle today's games, the only thing I needed, was a new graphics card. Which requires a new psu. So I upgraded from a 400w to a 600w psu, and got the evga Gtx 960 FTW edition. It works like a charm :)
+bob cow can you tell the parts that are still reusable?
Most of the parts were ok to keep. I kept a 1 tb hard drive, my Phenom II X6 1035T (2.6 GHz), 8 gigs of DDR3 memory, and the fans. I took out the sound card, in order to fit the GTX 960, and replaced the PSU. Most parts are ok to use, as long as they are cooled properly. If you have any more questions just ask.
I literally just asked myself this question an hour ago and this was in my recommended I’m shook right now
Holy fuck FireWire!! When was the last time I heard that!?
Why do so many prebuilt systems like this only have one fan?
Because it saves money n all ot needs
Everytime he talksover the cam movement the way he talks reminds me of shows like destination unknown hahaha I love it
Finally a useful video on this tooic! Thank you!
Resuse? Kyle you noob!
+Kanna Ganga Awesome Sauced Network
Kyle u better change the title because it says "resuse" instead of "reuse" haha
Welcome from the future. The old intro was DOPE!
I have the same computer and saving up for new parts for it thanks for this :)
This video won't even play. LMAO. Guess it's a bad idea to re-use old parts afterall.
+Chrisjb1983 mine wont either. idk every other vid works
Even mine.
i had a core 2 duo with an 8800 gt, then an i5 with gtx660 and now i just got a gtx 1070 and keep the i5 😊
8800gt still holds up today for low spec games.
LOL YOUR DAD'S OLD CASE IS THE SAME ONE THAT MY DAD HAS AT HIS WORK XD
“Now for the unforeseen topic of blowing now is the time to discuss the case fans...” ingenius 😂
Oh yeah... 2009 was 6 years ago. Damn I feel old.
Yeah well, it's 11 years ago now... Feeling even older
Can't wait for Metal Gear Solid V: TPP's crack! Just a few more days!
+Royal Tiger Yeah...I'm waiting for amazon to send me my code...
Hech 3DM have confirmed that the crack will come out Sep 7-9
Royal Tiger Hopefully I wont have to use it :P I hope amazon gets their stuff together and sends me the code...
You might want to mention how to reuse some parts in other ways than putting them in your PC.
The PSU can be made into a simple 5V and 12V power supply for basically anything. Powering a LiPo charger, anything that requires 5V or 12V really.
The Case... well... it's a case! You can put stuff inside of it and maybe even hide stuff inside of it and no one will ever know!
The fans can be reused. The small heatsinks on the motherboard too.
I am sure I am missing lots of things, but just think of the possibilities!
And yes, I know that this is not for the average joe, but mostly for tinkerers, electrical technicians or hobbyists alike, but it would be nice to know!
I'm glad I found this video, my current work are just trashing their old PC and they let me just salvage all the parts and generic towers except for the HDDs, these parts are still DDR3 era and Intel Pentinum/AMD equivalent with their stock coolers. I'm planning to resell these parts at the same time build a home server.

My last desktop doesn't though. It had Win ME, came out when USB was new and _just_ before quiet PCs were a thing.
Hey! That old PSU could run a fuck-ton of LEDs in your next build...
when I built my pc, I waited to get the power supply last and didn't have enough for a new one. So far it hasn't caught fire yet
Good video, Kyleosaurus, I repurpose most of my PC parts and get a lot of mileage out of them. However, it is fun to build new computers and update with fast new parts !
Powemac G5 cases gets modded to fit ATX Motherboards! They just look too good.
The PSU can be converted into a high power USB charger for every USB device in your home.
The HDDs are most of the time still good enough for some Data.
DVD Drives may be slow, but it can support that high speed.
RAM: Keep it for the future to show your kids, but don't use it. Most old ram even if it is DDR3 is still slow.
The Fans, if they work, are not too loud and fit your new PC, keep them.
Processor, Motherboard and Graficcard are probably the reason you want something new, so keep them also for the future to demonstrate to the kids how slow PCs were.
Heatsink: Put it on your Raspberry Pi. It will reach happy temperatures.
A note with the ram, if you happen to have 2 sticks of the same ram, even if it is like 1066 MHz, you may be able to carry over to your new system by running it in dual channel mode to make up for the lack in speed. I have done this with ddr2 800 MHz sticks to match the speed of more modern ddr3 1600 MHz sticks. While I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, if you really need to save money, it may be worth it.
RadiatingRedstone I had some ddr3 sticks, and i rather have ddr4 in dual channel. There is really no reason to not do dual channel. Ram on 2 sticks is really not that more expensive than it is on one stick.
look at all that dust...
Wanna talk about a trip down memory lane? I just tore apart an old custom pc that was built in 2000, it had a Diamond Stealth S80 graphics card, 1GB of some pretty cool RAM, a ZIP drive, a CD Rom drive and a floppy drive, truly a relic but it was fun to fuck with.
Interesting and informative video, Karl :O) Regards from England!

+JustaTree when you build a new pc and instead of buying everything you take out some parts of the old machine and put it into the new one
You must be a hoot at parties, Mr. Huszar ;-)

I just set up my great grandmas new HP aio, and transferred her things off an older version of this PC running XP.
I love old cases, especially old as grey ones. You can build absolute beasts in them and throw on some old pentium 4 stickers for kicks.

*****
i3 4150 and xfx r9 270
+BossManiacGames graphics card, keyboard and mouse, monitor and speakers or headset or headphones. ya forgot a few
So basically, only reuse hard drives.
and what about power supply .. is its matter of conectors only? or is something deeper in it?
+TheExtraleague As Kyle said in the video, most power supplies in prebuilt systems are very low quality. They are designed to work for the warranty period and maybe a year or two beyond, until they fail without warning, possible frying your other components or maybe even start a fire. The reason this happens is because they tend to use cheap internal components and thin gauge wiring with little to no protection built in.
How Can i reuse My HDD and Isntall OS in it??
The most important thing you already took ASAP without informing your grandpa!!.. Is the usb stick!!!! 0:20 ..but you didn't told us/him also i guess hahahaha :P
I just did the same thing, pulled bits out of my old 2011 computer and the rest went into the bin lol
I think you are looking at it the wrong way, rather than reusing older parts from this PC it is easier to add new parts to make this PC better.
Add and SSD with a fresh OS install and suddenly you have a much faster PC. You can find DDR2 memory for very cheap, add $20 into that. And if you can find a relatively new AMD CPU, a weak modern CPU/APU well now you have a good system, add a free Windows 10 and suddenly you have a PC that can last you 4-5 more years.................perfect for mom, dad, aunt, grandma.
I have a 2005 gateway pc model GT4016 and I was wondering if I should get rid of it or if it could still be use to me
my main windows Desktop is a Dell Optiplex GX520 Pentium 4 clocked at 3.0 GHZ with 2 gig of ram and Win 7 Pro.and it does fine at what i use it for,My main Laptop is a Dell Latitude D830 with a Core2Duo clocked at 2.2GHZ with 2 gig of ram and Win Vista buisness, also great for what i use it for,if your rigs still worked fine for what you you it for why replace it
I would increase the ram, the rest should be ok for browsing
Hey, I've done that... granted, only ram sticks and box survived lol
Good job!
No dust bunnies were harmed during the making of this video! 😆
'resuse'
Oh..i remember watching this video as a 15 yr old kid never knowing i would continue to watch this channel...and that i would actually come back here..
I can use my Harddrive and PowerSupply for my next computer! Thanks for the tip!
I HAVE THAT SAME PC! I got it from my aunt who was moving and didn't want it anymore. I gave it a new copy of windows 8 (and then updated to 10). I plan to give it a capture card soon and use it as a streaming rig for my better pc.
Intel does change sockets frequently, but the mounting locations for all 115x sockets has remained unchanged for the last 5 years or so since the original LGA 1156 socket, so coolers designed for it also fit 1155, 1150 and 1151 without a problem.
Omg I have the same one that your dad has lol... 6 years old I need to upgrade looking forward to getting new parts
Most people would just throw away a broken computer, but I just put broken computers in my closet
thanks lots of great info. im still gunna use my 2001 gateway chasis though.
Thank you this was very useful
this video explains why technology scrapyards are so great. lot of people dont want to do this stuff or just throw away their old pc with all these parts in it
In short, he recommends only reuse the Harddisc and DVD writer/reader. For those who don't want to watch the whole video.
Great info! Thanks!
you can reuse the mutlicard reader.
their wont be a dedicated slot in the new case, but dremel a bay cover and your golden.
I had the same computer, coincidentally. It broke down from a burned out discrete GPU. I think I will reuse the chassis when I rebuild it for my father since he loves the way it looks so much.
2:44 Actually I did that once, kinda. Had a buddy with an old but decent computer. It was running very very badly and he asked me to take a look. After cleaning out the malware and viruses and running some good old ccleaner, it was still lagging bad on just the home screen. I decided it was that his integrated graphics card wasn't built to supply graphics to the flat screen tv he had hooked it up to. I grabbed an old unused nvidia graphics card from home and said if it worked he could keep it for $10. It matched up perfectly, and it still runs great.
Thank a ton for this video.
You are awesome.
Great video kyle. Now what would be a great contrast, would be to see how much can be salvaged from a high-end custom built gaming rig, also from 2009. I suspect the results would be quite different. :-)
this is so useful as I have a pavilion around the same age!
That Phenom can still be used for AM3 + board for a budget build or as a place holder if you FX CPU goes.
You can also snatch a few of those fans and fill in a few open fan outputs on your new pc.
