- The Liverpool-Manchester United rivalry is the a rivalry between the two most successful clubs in English football. There had always been a rivalry between the two due to the historical inter-city rivalry, but it was exacerbated in the 1990s, a time when Liverpool began to fall and Manchester United started to rise again under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Matches between the two tend to be very heated affairs both on and off the pitch!

I'm so glad that Sir Matt saw us win the league again before he passed away in January 1994. Fergie won another European Cup Graeme, so he's definitely the greatest manager ever. For me anyway.
If Liverpool vs Manchester United match is the Champions League Final, it might be the most important British football game, especially if the place of the final is Wembley Stadium.
It was almost like that in 2008. Sadly, Chelsea defeated Liverpool
@@larryachiya2475 To be clear, there were 3 instances Liverpool and Manchester United had gone into Champions League games:
1.2007: Manchester United lost to Milan and the Italians won the UCL after gaining some revenge for their nightmare in Istanbul two years earlier.
2.2008: Liverpool lost to Chelsea after the West Londoners scored two goals in extra time, but Manchester United lifted the European Cup this time after John Terry's iconic penalty heartbreak in Moscow.
3.2019: The draw gave Liverpool with Manchester United on semifinal, but the Mancunians lost 0-4 on aggregate to Barcelona. However, the infamous Anfield comeback game made Liverpool to the final, when they lifted the European Cup for the sixth time by defeating Tottenham Hotspurs.
Such a shame that a big English rivalry didn't happened in Champions League. The Europa League in 2016 was the only encounter for Liverpool and Manchester United in European stages.
I'm also pointing out that Spain had numerous domestic games between two clubs, with 3 occasions happened in finals and all of them involving Real Madrid. Unfortunately, there was no El Clasico in the penultimate stages. In 2000, Real Madrid only faced Valencia, who destroyed Barcelona in the semifinal earlier. In 2012 and 2013, both sides were eliminated. In 2015, Real Madrid lost to Juventus, who were beaten by Barcelona in the Final.
Fair enough, the Liverpool-Manchester United and El Clasico weren't better than Italy and Germany, who even produced the final between two most successful clubs in domestic football and Europe in form of Juventus-Milan in 2003 and Der Klassiker in 2013.
I think this rivalry should be happened in the Champions League the next year, especially because the final returns back to the Home of Football. But, it's such a shame that last Champions League before they turned into shitty ESL-esque Swiss format might be more boring because clubs such as Chelsea, Juventus, Liverpool, among others, were absent due to the domestic league performance this season, with Chelsea and Liverpool played badly. I just pray that if Liverpool managed to beat Manchester United in this Super Sunday and continued a good form, they will qualify for the Champions League. But, once again, it's not 100% sure, given that Manchester United were in good form with Erik ten Hag, having won the EFL Cup the previous week.
That's the biggest dream of mine

The ' gas ' game at Anfield in 1985/86 summed up the rivalry in the 1980's. My worst day as a United fan was hearing the scousers singing their rubbish at Anfield in 1991/92, after they'd beaten us 2-0 to hand the title to Leeds United.
l'm a liverpool fan....and for me...The liverpool/manchester united fixture is historically. the biggest game not just in english football. But british football too...celtic and rangers fans might disagree....But no football club in britain can match what liverpool and manchester united have achieved....39 league titles and 9 european cups between them
Celtic vs Rangers is much bigger
@@Rovers1882 nope...wrong...its liverpool/manchester united

Man Uniteds most humiliating defeats 0-5 at home and 7-0 away and it just happens to be against? You guessed it Liverpool.
God damn you Souness for turning down Eric Cantona and Peter Schmeichel
and gary mcallister as well
4 of those European Cup victories, look who Liverpool were playing to get there!! Plus you only had to play 6 or 7 games to win it back then. It was harder to win the UEFA or CW Cup back then, funnily enough. As only the champions of each country entered the European Cup before the 1990's.
Spot on mate. Loserpool won vs the likes os anderletch whilst we had to beat bayern.
@@felixleiter5092lol, Anderlecht?-you mean Bruges, don't show off your ignorance, and it was harder to win because you had to be champions to be in it,today's cl is just a £ up Uefa cup
13:15 it was 1986 when the gas incident happened, not 1988!! As any United fan of that era would know!! I certainly remember it. The United team were entering the players entrance at Anfield, and some idiot set off some gas or a similar noxious substance..

As a liverpool fan good channel
United vs Liverpool = Marvel/DC comics, has some violence but generally more palatable to a broader audience..
Rangers vs Celtic = Image Comics, just, pure gore & violence.. 🔥🔥🔥
El Clasico (Real Madrid vs Barcelona) is still the mother of all football derbies.
Sure, there's been the odd tight title race, but generally speaking, things have been misalligned. When LFC are good, United have been shite and vice versa. As an LFC fan, since Ferguson has left, it's clear to me the rivalry means more to the United and LFC fans and the latters players. LFC's guys will run through walls against United.Yet, Uniteds players invariably look disinterested. I remember how big a pain in our arse United were in the 80's.
Dennis Irwin seemed so humble here , one of the best left backs ever in Premier League imo , so underrated , I'm a Red , and Robbo pips him , "just" , both great defenders but going forward Robbo beats him ❤
Liverpool v Man utd ...rivalry born out of Manchesters jealousy, Albert Docks was biggest port in Europe at one point , Manchester hated it , but , they put the Manchester shipping canel in to bypass the docks , hats off it worked , but born out of jealousy, we had what they wanted , and now they want our trophy haul , domestically they pipped us "so far" by 1 title , but to get our European Royalty tag will take them an eternity (6) and the rivalry rolls on ....jealous 😂
jealous of victims fc--errrrrr no ysb
Same kit, same fans, use to have the sane badge, same ground...not original like Manchester City, Everton, West Ham. Proper English clubs.
It is very interesting that you call Liverpool 'our rival' because the former club's captain and local hero built the latter club and shaped it's values in the post-war era. If anything, the modern famed Man Utd DNA owes a significant chunk to Liverpool. Also, let's be honest, Liverpool's status is unrivalled in the British game, and matched only on the continent by the likes of AC Milan, Bayern and Barçelona (surpassed Real Madrid).

Great game, but for pure unadulterated football passion, this fixture doesn't even come close to Celtic v Rangers! When you are at that fixture, you literally can't hear your mate who's standing right next to you! Then you have the madness that goes on out in the streets ...literal murder. Not for the faint hearted.

## There's nothing wrong move from Liverpool to Man United. Afterall, the latter's greatest ever manager is the former Liverpool born and bred captain, Sir Matt Busby. Liverpool have always been the benchmark of excellence that United have strived for. The city has also given the club players like steve copell and Wayne Rooney. Lastly, Liverpool are European royalty with their 6 UCLs/European Cups, a feat that no english or British club can rival let alone emulate.

I think the hate between Leeds and Manchester United is stronger than Liverpool/Manchester United. And yes the hate is mostly on the Leeds side.
Mostly on the Leeds side ? I hate them with a passion, but i don't hate City or Liverpool
Liverpool is the team that I hate the most in the World
I feel this is biased towards the Scousers. Still enjoyed it though
Liverpool liverpool 🥰🥰
Sir Matt Busby inherited a war-torn team in 1945, survived a Plane Crash, rebuilt and won the European Cup.
Sir Alex Ferguson toppled the Old Firm, beat Real Madrid in a European final with a provincial Scottish club, and won the Treble with Youth-Intakes.
No offence to Mr Shankly or Mr Paisley, but they didn’t achieve these feats, so your jealousy is your own creation, my Scouse friend.
No offence to you but what have you actually won since Fergie retired?

I hate the way everyone laughs at scousers and thinks they are homesexual because of the way tge look, talk, walk and act! And if most of them are homesexual with a mustache whst does it matter! So Liverpool's the San Francisco of the UK?
