  • I'm a Man Utd fan but I won't tolerate any Heysel, Hillsborough or obviously Munich jokes/jibes. If you want to make a civil comment and be part of a rational debate (as much as rational debate goes into football discussion anyway) then by all means post your thoughts about these two great clubs. Otherwise there are other places for a mindless exchange of insults (in fact you probably won't pay much attention to these words, but I'll delete and block any offensive comments from both set of fans. I'll leave humorous and harmless banter though)

      I used to want Liverpool to win as I did any English side in Europe but not anymore. I despise everything that LFC stands for.
      Back in the day with Shanks, Keegan, Heighway, Hughes etc they were good people. Good English club, good footballers and played with a smile on their faces. THEN IT ALL CHANGED.
      In came nasty, dirty players like Souness. A win at ALL cost attitude, score one then pass back to the keeper till the final whistle. And also the fans....................wanting any team in Europe to beat Man United. Despicable republican scum who hate England and began singing Irish Republican tunes in Anfield. Just disgusting...........Politics has no place in football. But the Sons Of Shankly rule Anfield with an iron fist taking fans colours and flags away from them if it doesn't fit in with their ideas.
      Even Phil Thompson has spoken out about this infiltration of republican/anti-English sentiment at the very core of LFC's support.
      I always support all English clubs in Europe, but not Liverpool. I've seen the hatred on their twisted faces when Manchester United are playing. I don't love our rivalry. I have much more respect for City, Arsenal and Chelsea than I ever would Liverpool. If LFC went out of business tomorrow I wouldn't bat an eyelid.
      ps. Congratulations to LVG for winning our 12 FA Cup and to Sevilla for winning the Europa league!!!

      Sorry Jonny you seem like a decent fan and this ISN'T a personal dig but the truth is United don't need Liverpool in any way at all. If LFC went out of business you wouldn't be missed. In fact the day your club goes out of business would be celebrated annually by fans of many clubs but especially Chelsea, Southampton, Everton and United. LFC has only brought negative things to the sport on and off the field and perhaps when you've gone we could rekindle some of the good old days when opposing fans had respect for each other and didn't take sick joy out of others misfortune. I wish Liverpool FC nothing but bad luck and only look forward to your demise. You are nothing. You don't matter.

      Neutral Observer. Are you talking about the Liverpool of old? What era? This is just my opinion but I don't think that United would be able to enjoy there success as much if there weren't teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Villa and Everton challenging them. Unfortunately, I am not old enough to enjoy Liverpools success but I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if there were no "top" teams to brag to.Of course, I absolutely loved it when I heard that Fergie had retired but I also respect Man United as much as I do Arsenal, Southampton, Tottenham and Everton. What I can't stand are clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City and I never will like them. I thoroughly respect you and your honest comment and I am sure United and Liverpool will soon be at the level they used to be.

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS Před 7 lety +2

      Jonny, You are looking and judging teams over a short timescale. If you look at clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City over the last 100 years or more it's quite a different picture. Chelsea and City have only had sugar daddies for say 15 yrs. That's about 10% of their life as a football club.
      If you go back to the mid-late 60's Everton were a bigger and more successful club than Liverpool.
      For me I lost all respect for LFC and their fans when they ditched the likes of Shanks and more importantly the way he had respect for his opponents (albeit there was plenty of banter) but not the hate which surfaced from Liverpool fans in the early 70's. It became ALL about winning and cowards like Graeme "I'll take you out when you're eyes are on the ball" Souness arrived.
      The old Liverpool with Shanks, Keegan, Heighway, Toshack etc were a joy to watch when the Sons of Shankly didn't go around telling people what they could and couldn't sing or what flags they could or couldn't bring into Anfield. In addition there is a worrying "Republican" movement gaining momentum within some sectres of the Liverpool support which has been seen in the choice of certain songs and political views which have been expressed on videos. Even Phil Thompson has spoken out against this.
      Liverpool FC is an English club, which is part of the UK but some people lurking in the shadows don't like that and are desperately trying to win hearts and minds with sectarian shit. To my mind politics has NO place in football and should be crushed by the regular fans!!
      Unlike some you seem a really decent bloke Jonny. I feel sorry for the likes of you that your club has elements that almost use the name of LFC to achieve their political aims.

    • @jonathanrice7272
      @jonathanrice7272 Před 7 lety +3

      Neutral Observer. 1) I know that Chelsea and Manchester City weren't always like this and I used to have the same respect that I do for Arsenal Man Utd etc.
      2) I completely respect Everton and I know the club that I love was essentially formed by the owner of Everton.
      3) I also agree that the club took a turn for the worst when the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan departed and the hate against other clubs is completely wrong.
      4) I can't honestly say I know too much about the political songs being sung around Anfield as I haven't been for a couple of years. I do think this is also wrong but that is the problem with the world today and I'm sure Liverpool isn't the only club in England which is surrounded by these issues including your club.
      I appreciate your point of view and you seem like a very nice person too and it's fans like you who make football the greatest sport in the world. It is not just Liverpool fans, it is others too. Obviously without the political issues it would be a nicer club but I'm sad to say that I think this will be a growing problem amongst the sport and most clubs.

    I have been a Liverpool fan since November 1970, but a fan of football for even longer. While I fully "embrace" the fact that the Scabby Mancs (I can't even write or say their name!) are our biggest rivals, I have a deep respect for them simply because their fans (the ones that actually live in Manchester!) are as passionate as ours. I even have a couple of friends who support The Dark Side. Talking football with one of them a couple of weeks ago, I asked him if there was any particular player he genuinely "hated", but would love to hve seen in their kit - and I offered my equivalent answer. The two names that came up were Gary Neville and Steve Gerrard - and that's why, despite his football allegiances, we can be mates. Because the most important thing to both of us is to have players who will give absolutely everything for the shirt and that badge on their chest - whichever one it is! May the rivalry contimue to grow with unbridled (but violence-free) passion between my beloved Liverpool and The Other Lot. You'll Never Walk Alone.

    As a Liverpool fan, pains me to say that Alex Ferguson was a quality manager for over 2 decades for the Mancs and it will be hard to replace such a quality man. Hats off to him, he had one goal and that was to take the number of league titles away from us (to knock us off our perch). Shame that both teams now are struggling for top 4.

    Now a days a player only goes where the money is... And the sooner the better they put a cap on highest paid players etc because 2teams will just keep buying everyone and the title

Not his managerial ability, but his INFLUENCE. He's the greatest manager of all time in terms of buying success, had it not been for money, his aforementioned influence and shocking refereeing decisions, he'd be Scottish Premier standard at best.

    Believe it or not there was a time in English football when there wasn't so much tribal hatred between clubs fans. So for example my grandad used to tell me that whichever English team won the league and represented England in the European Cup would usually get the support of everyone sitting @ home watching the match on television. Sure teams wanted to beat each other domestically but if other clubs fell on hard times people would rally together and help each other out. There were NONE of these chants about disasters.
    THEN THIS CHANGED.
    WHY DID THIS CHANGE?
    This changed because a Liverpool fan or group of Liverpool fans decided to make up a song to celebrate the deaths of 23 people in a plane crash in Munich.
    Now, just take a few minutes out and think about that.............................. :-
    1. What was going through those Liverpool fans minds while they thought up a tune and words to go with it?
    2. Why did other Liverpool fans hear this song and think, "Oh this is good, or this is funny, let's celebrate these deaths even though there were hundreds of relatives grieving for their lost fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, uncles, cousins etc" ?
    3. Why did fans of other clubs like Rangers, Chelsea, West Ham, Leedscum, City etc all think, " Hey that's a fun song celebrating death, let's also sing it"?
    Ladies and Gentlemen, You may say this is harping back and we need to look forward and resolve the issues we find ourselves with today and to an extent I agree we need to move on. However before we can lance the boil, we need to understand what happened and WHY?
    IF those Liverpool supporters hadn't invented sick chanting, would anyone have even thought about making up a song about The Ibrox Disaster, the death of Davie Cooper, Jonny Doyle, Jock Stein, Bill Shankly, Don Revie, Istanbul, Heysel, Bradford, Hillsborough and others? Maybe they would, BUT maybe they wouldn't!!
    We cant change the past. What's done is done and that's the problem. We can't undo the damage that's already been done to the family and friends of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight who were brutally murdered in Istanbul. If you were one of their relatives would you forgive the Millwall fans who turned up at the game against Leeds in Galatasaray shirts and making stabbing gestures?
    Personally I would love nothing more than to be able to wave a wand and the chants would end but I've been going to football since 1973 and I know this isn't going to happen. The best we can hope for is that such strong action is taken inside stadiums that we can put an end to these songs there. These songs will sadly live on in pubs, clubs, and on the streets. Personally I've never sung about any disaster and I never will but I can't forgive those Liverpool fans who took such great pleasure in celebrating the death of 23 people. They may have been misguided but somewhere inside them was evil and they are scum. I'm still amazed though how thousands and thousands of Liverpool fans were seduced by this sickening song and blasted it out year after year after year! Make no mistake.....................this is exactly where the genuine hatred of Liverpool started. Forget all those red herrings about two city's competing and the Manchester ship canal. Do Manchester City despise everything about Everton? Do Everton despise everything about City with the same venom that Liverpool hate Man United and vice versa? Not a chance.
    I'm afraid those Liverpool fans represent everything that is rotten in the human race. They created the problem we have today. So when Liverpool fans start throwing abuse @ the United fans who were shouting about Heysel and The Sun newspaper, just take a minute out to remember why we have this problem today.

      I was brought up on Old Firm games and believe me Utd v Liv has a lot of bitterness about it. The vast majority who go to Old Firm games love the singing, the atmosphere both pre match and during but then go home to Clarkston, Bishopbriggs, Giffnock, Rutherglen, Partick, Bridgeton, Parkhead and Shawlands and have a pint with their mates. Nothing more.
      The main difference between these games is the sectarianism which does give the Old Firm another dimension but only someone who is ignorant or biased would not appreciate the nasty element which Utd-Liv, Blues-Villa, Pompey-Saints also have.

We have more titles, more FA Cups, more Club World Cups, more Community Shields, more domestic trophies and more overall trophies than Liverpool and that makes us a more successful club. Having more fans, more sponsors and being worth more money than Liverpool makes us a bigger club. You just aren't in our range. We are officially England's most successful team and Europe's 3rd most successful major club. That's OFFICIAL!! Look it up! Liverpool are like 7th! What you say is absolute shit. dublinmadman33 United may have brought through such players like Neviile, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs and so on, but you look at the great players in United shirts, for instance Schiemical, Van Der Sar and even De Gea have all been bought, Vidic and Ferdinand were also bought for huge fees, as was Evra, Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani, Ashley Young, Eric Cantona, Van Persie and so on have all been bought in.
      But thats what it takes to make a good squad, a mixture of youth and purchase established players.
      Thats why we (Liverpool) havent succeeded as of the last 10 years

    • @Supertomiman
      @Supertomiman Před 9 lety +1

      ***** The thing is, there is a difference between buying a young player with potential and turning them into stars and simply buying players that are already stars. Out of those players you mentioned, only RVP would qualify as the latter in my mind.
      Ideally, you don't really ever need to buy any established players, you simply trust the already experienced players you have, bring academy players through, and if need be, buy young talent. That's why under Fergie, we rarely signed any older players.
      Sometimes though, teams end up with no experienced players, or not enough of them, like Liverpool right now or us in the defensive department. In such cases, it's justified to buy established ones.

    The hatred didnt start in the 1990's as described. Albiston is correct, it was there much earlier than that. I remember living in Scotland during the seventies and Liverpool were hated then by most fans of different clubs but especially Celtic and United.
    By the late 80's everyone despised them because people were bored by their dull pass back to the goalkeeper style of football and their success. People wanted to see a new kid on the block, hence everyone celebrated when Arsenal won the title @ Anfield in 1989 and that included fans of every club apart from Liverpool !!!

    Right, because a 1 match Community Shield and Super Cup "competition" deserve a spot alongside the Champions League. The CL, EPL, FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Cup are tier 1 trophies. Liverpool: 41; ManU: 37

      +Teige Fullwood: Kenny Dalgish - "The league was our greater challenge, winning the European Cup was seen as a great honor, but it was seen as a cup competition and an extra topping on what was our bread and butter: the league title". United have won what is seen by Liverpool's greatest ever player as the most important and challenging trophy to win, the league title. 20x 20x Man Utd.

    I understand what you mean about it not being a derby unless its the same city,
    But there are other reasons than us both being the two most successful teams in the country.
    why dont you see it as a Derby?

    @SharpeyCol don't get me wrong, liverpool is still massive game but all i'm saying is that its not what it used to be. maybe if they somehow get back to winning ways, which tbh does not look like happening for a while to come. i disagree that there is no rivalry with arsenal and chelsea (recently), over the past decade or so there has definitely been rivalry purely because they were the only teams challenging united for the title, with also newcastle in the 90s.

    @RazzaBeeDaSilva I'm not talking about the amount of people watching the game, but about the real rivalry between the clubs and fans.
    And I would like to see some figures by the way for people who atually watch that game. I know Barcelona - Real in the Champions League semi-final had 500 million people watching it, I somehow doubt this game would have as many.

  • @colonelwhiskey
    @colonelwhiskey Před 13 lety

    @SharpeyCol yes i suppose thats a good point, but while we're on the topic i never got the leeds one? i understand the whole yorkshire/lancashire thing but to this day they still hate eachother so much even when leagues apart. i think that might be another situation where the other team considers utd rivals while we got bigger fish to fry. i guess historically only liverpool comes close to being our' traditional rival', even though i feel it might calm down if they continue to fail competitively

    I'm a Liverpool fan who DETESTS Man United. However, I will never go so far as to making jokes about Munich because that's a real tragedy, and the Busby Babes such as Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, etc., were legendary. My hatred for Man U is a healthy one when they play Liverpool. I have a lot of respect for Man U fans, and as a football purist, Man U play some beautiful football that is great to watch. It's a great rivalry, and it should be kept clean and fun, and I always look forward to it.
