    You speak easily of the secrets that many salsa teachers really...don't...say...anything...about!

    I think one of the most difficult parts of being accused of back leading is the lack of connection which leads to anticipation or the follow not knowing steps they actually know when there is no tension or push/pull to judge from. So both partners get nervous.

    Very good explanation of the technical rules, with just the right amount of humour thrown in! More to remember , but more chance of getting it right, for when I next go on the dance floor! Thank you.

    Everything on point. Only other suggestion that's simple but makes a huge difference is for ladies to use ball of their feet and off their heels (brakes).

    This was beautiful, man.
    I am apparently a natural dancer when it comes to salsa. I say that cause I've never had formal dance lessons. I've learned the basics from movies growing up in the 90s and I have that natural ability to catch rhythm.
    Have been complimented much on my dancing..but I notice that maybe I can be better by learning formally. The steps. Especially since I haven't been on the dancing scene for about 4yrs now. About to jump back in.
    Most of these tips I feel like I intuitively knew, but to see them broken down in a very engaging and easy way makes me that much more confident to get out there and have fun again.
    Not to mention my wife, who has never danced in this way is learning a lot as well.
    I appreciate all your videos.
    Thank you

      Hi Agon, that is fantastic and a great gift. Most people that learned the natural way might FEEL the music in their hearts and move from there but dancing with a partner does require some technical skills. Happy that you liked the video.

    Sorry to disagree with your explanation of a cross body lead. The purpose of a cross body lead is for the man to check out the woman. Losing contact visual contact with the woman is not good Latin dancing. But whom I to say. The former Undefeated World Salsa Champion.

    • @salsaventura
      @salsaventura  Před 5 lety +11

      Dear Isaac,
      How are you my man? Happy to see you are still around! Bueno, what should I say... we never get a second change to make a first impression my friend so I totally respect your comment. The good thing about Salsa that it is "una baile de la calle" that was born without strict rules. So we can each have our opinion. I have my own idea about the purpose of a cross body lead and it is total different one then yours I must say.
      Besided that; the true master will never have to claim himself a master. Same goes for "World Salsa Champion". Becoming a world champion all depends on the competitors that join I guess.

    • @VCels9
      @VCels9 Před 5 lety +7

      @@salsaventura I agree with your take on looking before doing a cross body lead. As a follow, it is very annoying when a lead does a CBL and crashes me into other people! For performance and competition, it's okay to maintain eye contact with your partner throughout the movement, but for social dancing you always have to be aware of your surroundings and respect the space of others.

    • @buzzcity01
      @buzzcity01 Před 5 lety +4

      Totally agree. On a crowded dance floor, leader also has to be traffic controller. If I am about to do a CBL and notice there is no space or someone is about to come into our space, I’ll put the brakes on and send the lady back. If I don’t like getting slammed into, think how awful it is for the ladies.

    • @bugsburny
      @bugsburny Před 5 lety +2

      I agree with the fact of loosing eye contact for a moment, when you leave the line of the follower.
      We are dancing social, i.e. In a crowd.
      Sometimes, you even get awkward moments with beginner ladies who do not drop eye contact during CBL and are actually walking around you instead of walking on their line, just because they do not look where they are going to.
      Starring at your partner 100pc of the time can also make him/her feel uncomfortable.
      Loosing eye contact during an instant is part of the style of in-line salsa, IMHO.
      Beside that, there is nothing worse than a partner who never looks at you during 4min of dance, of course.
      One note, i think people do not look at each other enough when doing shines.
