Dude, i get you, i got out of chronical depression after 4 years of struggle, but do you know how differently wired your brain is when you are sick? I remember that for the first 2 years it felt somehow better and safer to stay in the gutter, without actually wanting to change. Now i am out i can not even fathom how or why i thought that, i lost so many friends an even a partner of 5 years because of it, but you do not think clearly, you can not rationalize that feeling of not wanting to get better. It was not even for attention, like anybody treated me better because i was sick, no excuses worked, nothing, exams and prelims happened as usual, my mom treated me as usual, my friends treated me as usual, no benefits, just pure self-hatred. I still understand what you are saying, stuff like laziness and self-pity can and should be fought against, but understanding that every mental illness will have a time of passivity and "acceptance" before solution-oriented action is also important. Getting out of the depression in under two years is super rare, GAD and panic attacks usually stay with people for life, my sister had severe OCD for three years resulting in anorexia and will have minor to mild OCD for the rest of the life, people have had PTSD for 30 years since the war happened in my country with catastrophic relapses around 9th and 10th month in the year, these struggles have a tendency to become the new normal for you, you can not even imagine that it could be better and that it is worth it to fight.

Ligma causes involuntary twitching of the tongue, whereas sugma leads to spasms in the lip region, causing them to purse and/or create suction. Some have drawn comparisons to one's reaction to eating a lemon. Sometimes, these disorders can be comorbidities, leading to a combination of tongue twitches and lip muscle spasms. Sufferers of this condition struggle to eat most food, as it becomes difficult to fit and consume, so they have to restrict their diet to things like bananas, popsicles, carrots, and celery sticks. As someone with PhD (self-diagnosed), I suggest three doses of D.N. a day for the next six-to-eight weeks. If symptoms persist, I'd suggest arranging for an appointment with an M.D.

I was diagnosed with manic bipolar disorder when I was 18. I used to hang out with a crowd a lot like this and I would always give them the benefit of the doubt when they romanticized mental illness because it was “edgy”. But after going through what I’ve gone through these past 5 years I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Being unable to control your thoughts and outrageous delusions is crippling. I’m sure a lot of us fear that we are ticking time bombs, so to hear someone say “I’m so bipolar, self-diagnosed” it is so frustrating. Because they have no idea the dark depths that true illness takes you too. For those of you struggling, I hope you find the strength to make it through the day. Your life is precious and you are not a monster for the thoughts you can’t control. ❤️

Bipolar is also probably the most common one that peopple romaticise and fake for attention NGL, It's very fustrating, also it's very unlikely that anyone would ever share that they have a serious mental disorder like bpd, bipolar, schizophrenia, psychosis, etc. like are you kidding me, that'd give it away, then everyone would know, which would cause the person to get paranoid and create delusions that amplify the absolute fuck out of their existing delusion, its like a trigger, makes me furious when people fake that shit, you'd understtand if you're close to someone with a serious mental illness how uneducated people are about them

I like how a lot of these kids fake things you can't get diagnosed with until you're an adult due to how puberty effects your behavior and personality. Also it's impossible to self diagnose DID because it's a covert disorder and you don't know what's going on until you're diagnosed so most of these kids are just role-playing
Anyways, thank you again for standing up for us. It means a lot as someone who has serious mental illness that messes with my life, ability to make friends and socialize, and even my identity and concept of reality. It's nice and I hope to see more big creators talk about this

I mean, it’s uncommon, but it IS possible for someone accidentally find out they have DID. Yes, your brain hides it from you, but it’s not unheard of for someone to unintentionally stumble into the system while meditating, or connect the dots from more extreme symptoms and seeking diagnoses. I’d say DID lies on a spectrum. It is uncommon, but it’s important to bear in mind that rarity is considered in comparison to the global population and only accounts for diagnoses. Fewer than 200,000 per year is rare compared to the ~8 billion people on the planet and the birth rate and what not, but like….consider how many people that really is. Annually. And it is only those who get a proper diagnoses. There are going to be variables that aren’t well understood and a spectrum that includes less common things even within that rare disorder.
I agree that there is a very real issue of kids faking and romanticizing disorders, self diagnosing, and jumping to conclusions, that isn’t something I am going to argue over.
My point is that overgeneralizing how a disorder works, especially one that is still not well understood like DID, can have negative consequences. I don’t intend to blame anyone for messing up in this regard as…well, as I said, it’s rare and still not well understood. I just wish to spread awareness on how people could potentially think more closely in wording things and help clarify points that aren’t particularly obvious to most.
I hope this is informative and does not come off as rude, it is not my intention, but I realize I sometimes come off in ways I don’t intend. (I am a properly diagnosed ASD adult.) I tend to be hyper-formal in my speech for things like this as I hope to more clearly communicate and avoid unintentional and stressful social faux pas/unintentionally insulting or being rude to others.
I find it helpful when people are willing to understand this and are willing to explain where and how I go wrong if I do come across as rude or hurtful, and how I can better phrase things in future myself.
I appreciate your comment overall however, and wish you the best of luck in all endeavors!

I have a lot of shame surrounding having Tourettes, OCD and CPTSD (professionally diagnosed) and because people are romanticising disoderds (especially tics, it's so offensive and disrespectful) I'm constantly afraid of people thinking I'm faking or wanting attention. I've had people come up to me and ask about my tics give me advice they saw on tiktok, a classmate even came up and said I should learn sign language to communicate because she saw it on tiktok. There's so much misinformation out there or pretending that these aren’t serious. I would give anything to be normal.

Great vid, I will never understand how we got to the point where young people need to do these things to feel like they fit in. It points to something fundamentally fucked. Maybe somekind of overswing of the pendulum? When I was in high school I made it my life to conceeal the fact that my family suffered greatly from mental illness. It was absolutely 100% necessary to not go into any detail as to why I didn't go on holidays, couldn't have any friends over and why mum never picked me up from school. In hindsight it would have been nice to be able to talk about these things, vital even. Now, the things I fought to keep hidden because of the pain they caused me are being worn as badges of pride. Like, instead of just talking about issues they are facing, these kids are now using these issues as the pillar around which they base their identity. People with mental illness do not want their mental illness. It is not what makes them who they are, they cause pain to themselves and those around them and can take a lifetime to bring to a point where they are even manageable. The attitude these kids have towards them is simplistic, demeaning, condescending and ignorant. But kids will be kids I guess? I don't know, shits all fucked up.

    • @candyman9635
      @candyman9635 Před 2 lety +13

Sometimes it causes pain, with others it is part of who they are. For example, I'm autistic and I wouldn't change that for the world.
There is a less gloomy side to kids like this, it shows that the stigma behind mental illness that you just described is lessening in the world. It was more fucked when you were in high school that people couldn't talk about it at all.
I just understood what you meant by over swing of the pendulum, I agree. It will balance out and we'll find a happy medium between stigma and "wow guys it's so cool to be depressed"
EDIT: I watched the video, these types of people need to be shot or gassed, removed from the gene pool post haste.

So many people believe it's not a real disorder, and it makes me angry. I've had my partner switch after a flashback and not recognize me or our house. I've willingly been longterm friends with abusers because I had amnesia of their abuse. I've had alters front at work who had no idea how to do my job and didn't recognize my coworkers. It's not a game for attention. It's dangerous and debilitating. I think that you addressed the issue well, and I appreciate that.

Yeah, I had a coworker that struggled with it in death valley, and it'd be awful. She'd be at work, and she'd just wander off because she'd forget where she was and what was going on.
It was a really supportive community that helped keep her from doing something dangerous, but it was concerning the amount of times she'd just disappear for hours cause she'd get scared and nobody knew where she went.

This really brings me back to Highschool. It was honestly like this with some people, you couldn't talk to them properly, they had no interest in helping themselves but all they wanted to do is complain. Especially that child of divorce part, I remember hearing a girl scream that at her friends as an excuse before running off. This happened near my locker so I overheard.
I was a "child of divorce" too, but I never used it as an excuse as believed I was in control, regardless of my home situation which wasn't good. Personal experience doesn't equate to evidence but I've known a lot of people like myself as well, some people handle it better because they want to help themselves.
My advice. You can't have the mindset of wishing your life was better, you should want to better yourself and everything else will follow.

I think the fake disorder issue is getting out of hand but is being overlooked nonetheless. At times I want to speak out about my (clinically diagnosed) disorders but it’s fakers that make me, and I’m sure others, hesitant. Hopefully this is a fad that will die out soon

Anxiety is cute and quirky until you have a massive panic attack that’s so bad you literally feel like you’ll never get through it. I’ve had GAD since I was a small child, it runs in my family, and it got to a point where I would weeks inside instead of playing outside with my friends because I was convinced something bad would happen to me.
    Shit sucks.

This is spot on, I suffered from depression and anxiety from my past that it hit me hard in my mid-20s, and my coworker wanted to high five me and act like its cool to have and another coworker who has schizophrenia, depression, tourettes, anxiety, and everything else you can think of and just play games and watches anime all day....I have a cousin with schizophrenia and they can barely manage suffered every day, and wouldn't try to glamorize mental illness. You end up in really dark places, and even now its hard to talk about it.

I have and have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and I'm 19 so I basically got diagnosed as soon as I turned 18. Before that, I was very depressed and suicidal and I didn't even think I had bipolar and a lot of the times still I think it's just me being normal. I ended up in inpatient after I broke down for 5 days and they even thought about sending me to residence at one point which I'm thankful to this day that never happened, believe me. I really hate it when kids fake disorders for attention, it's not cool. Mental illness sucks and nothing about it is fun. I was also very disappointed I wasn't allowed to join the military which took me a while to get over.

As someone who has works with people who actually suffer from serious mental disadvantages I agree it obnoxious people use others serious problem to victimize themselves for fame the worst ones I see are those fake PTSD individuals. PTSD is traumatizing for people who suffer from it they don’t just have nightmares no they feel a extreme disconnect from society to and immense degree as if they can’t connect with anyone even others who go through similar experiences. They just want to be treated normally but they struggle to find the normalcy all while trying to act as if they don’t suffer from a serious issue. This is part of their desire for them to be viewed as normal. PTSD is not a joke it’s not something caused because your parent told you you were grounded it’s something that happens to countless women and men and due to these Tiktok fakers it’s legitimacy is questioned by those who have it leading to really sad conclusions to some peoples lives because they aren’t taken seriously.

Nowdays people will believe first that people with actual conditions are faking it, when theyre the ones suffering the most from this whole fucked up thing.

    - [ ] Most of teen wants to be part of a group, you see majority of web series directed at teen nowadays are with lead actors always having some disorder (which is exaggerated always) and that’s romaticize, and they are portrayed as quirky and “not like the other people” so to be part of that box or type all start self diagnosing themselves so that they can have what lead actors have sympathy, attention a feeling of being a protagonist.
    - [ ] That’s why you have so may die hard “BTS army” a lot of who I know don’t even know basic things about them, they wanted to be part of a group, similar to the 1D fans when they were teens. Short story when I was in 6th and 1D craze was on peak I used to show how big of fan I was of them even though I didn’t even knew their names, but to get in a group of friends I wanted a trendy topic to jump on so Harry styles became my fb cover pic, and guess what I got few friend. Eventually we grew out of that phase.
    - [ ] In every gen you will find some thing which most teen associate themselves which they think is either “different” ( which is never different) or cool edgy and make them look out of herd( not knowing they are in herd). Which is most of time harmless and temporary, even though annoying.
    - [ ] Unfortunately because of a lot of web series and all the influence from most of social media this time they found their fixation on self diagnose mental disorder. They don’t have ill intention and they don’t even think they are doing something wrong it’s just how they are in their head.
    - [ ] A lot of people in this comment section are also doing that. There is no way to immediately get rid of this issue this will eventually goes away as they grow up, there is a lot of skits post and videos about it, and in there comment section all of them agreeing but still no self realisation, because in their head they are not wrong ,they are not acting, in fact they are good and very self aware.
    - [ ] So all we can do is make light hearted fun of them and prey that this phase pass quickly because taking away of obsession of any teen or young people of ANY generation is impossible.

As someone diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder I find that video to be priceless. I hadn't laugh that much in a long time and this parody also represent pretty accuretly the situation now especially with thoses kids and teens self diagnosing themselves on tiktok and spreading misinformation and romantising it for clout and fame. It's a sad situation that causes people's life like mine even harder than it already was. It's not like society was recognising mental disorders to beggin with and so teens would come up with those lies to try to ruin thoses years of fight for recognition....nooo society never recognised mental health issues and disorders which makes our lifes harder just to avoid being stigmatised or mocked, adding to that the fact that people with a disorder is disabled so it's hard to stand the symptoms all the time and our lifes are more difficult than the others' because it might be either impossible or hardly possible for us to do a task that non disabled people would do within 2 minutes and for what now? Adding thoses roleplayers and attention seekers to fake severe mental disorders to feel ''unique''. This reality makes me mad but this parody makes me laugh so much😢😂
