"Ode to Freedom" is an absolute hymn and in all honesty one the best songs Benny and Bjorn ever wrote.
This song is Magestic just like Abba. They are Pop Royalty and nobody comes anywhere near to claiming their throne . 100% classy ❤️

I've been listening to it ever since it was released over a year ago now and I still feel the same - goosebumps all over me
That's the epic closer of the album. VOYAGE ended 3rd best selling record of 2021 in the metropolis of pop music the UK only with the likes of Adele and Ed Sheeran above.Also last years best selling vynil album in UK,(which is clear profit for them as opposed to the streaming policy that profits are less than a few to the artists and the songwritters). 2021's No1 best seller album (general category,summing up all formats) in Germany-the next big European music market and (from what i also read some weeks ago from a fellow fan on twitter)last year's 2nd best seller record worldwide in some category too.Not bad for a band that was 'inactive/ 'absent' for 40 whole years and was thrown to uncharted waters in the era of streaming music with a retro, organic album.And what can be said about the VOYAGE gigs in London?!A Total triumph that make people 'fly happy' and cry at the same time.'it's got to be seen to be believed'!Already anounced its extented residency due to huge public attentance (many go back to watch this for more than once)Next reaction?'ABBA- THE MOVIE' of course.

I loved so much your re-reaction to this Abba masterpiece!!! I can't believe it's now a year ago that "I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut Me Down" were released as well as the announcement of a new album, such an amazing day! How time flies!
And I was floored when I first heard "Ode To Freedom", so hauntingly beautiful and majestic (lyrically & musically) and a fitting end to Abba's journey beginning with "People Need Love" in 1972 to 2021. Apparently Benny wrote the music back in the mid 90's but couldn't find the right way to use it but it worked so perfectly as an Abba song! Also the Dolby Atmos mix is amazing too with how differently the vocals are mixed!
And it will be interesting to see if Voyage will be re-released this year with the 2 unfinished songs (rumoured to be called "Hit By A Train" and "My Story Ends With You"), fingers are definitely crossed that we will one day hear them!
And my Australian green & gold vinyl copy of Voyage finally ships on September 9th, crazy that some are already selling theirs on eBay for nearly $600!
The music reminds me of the '2001 - A Space Odyssey' soundtrack. It kind of fits in with the imagery of the 'Voyage' album with it's planets. It gives the feeling of a spacecraft silently slipping away from the mother-ship, in search of new worlds and a better life.
Makes my skin tingle. This is classic ABBA!

It’s so subtle, with so many nuances! Frida showing her low register (thought the boys too but not convinced?), and Agnetha soaring an octave above with her soprano. Definitely an Enya vibe - I just wish for more!
Except its Agnetta singing the low notes , Frida gets the opportunity to show off her operetta skills in this one
@@kentdavids1285 We’ll have to agree to disagree, or have Benny and Bjorn clarify! I definitely hear Agnetha singing the high notes, and Frida (and maybe Agnetha too) the low. I know Frida has an operatic range but the high notes here do not sound like her. It’s like when Agnetha sings the high notes of “do I have it in me” during ISHFIY.
@@kentdavids1285 Frida is definitely not singing high notes here!!!!!!! it is still in its low position, the high notes are Agnetha and the choir!!!!! My goodness....sometimes it's monotonous when the low voice is strong compared to the soprano!

is an extraordinary ending to what may be ABBA's extraordinary musical and group journey
I believe that the last thing ABBA has done is to be aware of its Legacy and to be faithful to it, to perpetuate it to the new generations
That is why I believe that this new album "Voyage", perhaps the last of ABBA, is a trip to eternity in the history of music.
In particular, I feel that this song is sung by the four of them together from beginning to end, although Frida stands out strongly in the lower tones and Agnetha appears as a beautiful second voice in the treble, the men do background voices

Another masterpiece from ABBA. The second best Ode to Freedom ever composed in music's history. First one being the "Va, pensiero" chorus in the Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed in 1842. czcams.com/video/MBYmhYxEvUM/video.html
They certainly have the same intensity, lightness, feeling and passion.
The song takes its inspiration from Tchaikovsky's Swan lake & Verdi's Pilgrim's chorus from Nabucco.
Enough credit is likely not given to Agnetha's beautiful soprano taken an octave higher through the song.
The track more leans to something you would hear in Chess or Kristina. You should have a listen to tracks from those two Benny & Bjorn musicals.
You are absolutely right, I heard one recording where Agnetha's soprano was more emphasized. I also don't know why this voice was suppressed, it seems too monotonous when we only hear the lower and stronger voice.
It also reminds me to the mood of the "Barcarolle" from Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffmann".
Kristina is a masterpiece. I'd love to see a reaction to Helen Sjoholm's live concert version of 'Du Maste Finnas'. It's transcendent!
Personally I think this song Ode to Freedom couldn't be more completely ABBA at its core. It has gorgeous lilting melodies, beautiful poetic lyrics, is easy to remember and sing, and well reflects the fact that all 4 of them are classically trained musicians and their principle interest has always been art music.. Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad is a trained opera singer. Benny Andersson has released under the Deutsche Grammophon classical record label as well as had composed hugely successful stage musicals such as Chess (which he co-wrote with Bjorn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice), as well as several Swedish movie soundtracks (not just the Mamma Mia ones).
Andersson and Ulvaeus had continued to write music together even tho' ABBA had gone quiet. The versatility of ABBA Voyage reflects the wide ranging nature of their musical interests.
It's interesting that many famous musicians love ABBA's music: Brian May, Paul Young, Liz Mitchelll, Neil Sedaka, Connie Francis, Suzi Quatro, George Baker, Kerry Ellis, Cher, Marcia Barrett, Valerie Holiday, and Andy Scott, just to name some. :)
When I first listened to Ode to Freedom late last year when I purchased the CD, the first thing it reminded me of was Arrival: instrumental at first and then the vocals but of course this is a much deeper song. Listening to it again with you now, today, with so much more going on in this world then when it was released, I find the lyrics have a much more deeper meaning. We definitely need more odes to freedom that we all can sing.
One more thing: Have you listened to the Atmos mix of I Still Have Faith In You? You can find here on YT. It really brings out some layers of the vocals in the background that just seem to add more to the song. I highly recommend it!
Oh yes, the Dolby Atmos mix of "I Still Have Faith In You" is superb, love too how the synths are more pronounced in it as well!

For me (subjectively) maybe not the best one but my favest one for deeply emotional reasons.There's not a single time i've put this record and not get teary eyed.I am tearfully grateful for this offer of theirs.Just much gratitude and respect.

I think listening to this again after a year or so it not hearing this I wonder if they intentionally played down the vocals in this song, which I think on first listen I'd probably think weren't that great, so that the lyrics and amazing orchestral arrangement are put more info focus. It does also seem to me like a perfect closing song on the album and never meant to be a standout song, which isn't to say that I don't like it because I do, it is just one of those songs that is more thought provoking than one that makes me go wow at the vocals.
