Sitting here waiting for a delayed flight at the Halifax airport, NS. A great project. Well done. See the sun was shining that day! Suppose you’ll be turning a flower for the bee to sit on next. Beautiful work. Thanks.

I'm glad that you still liked it.. despite your allergy...

Andy lovely to see you mate, heyup! I don't believe people turn off - I look forward to your videos - it's rarely just a wood turning project which I really like because you often make the turning part of something more. I have been at the woodworking show at Harrogate this weekend, bumped into a Gentleman Turner called Mark which was nice for me to meet someone I often watch on here - he said he owes his gentlemanly attributes to you which is a good legacy - Cornwall is lucky to have you mate!
Hi Paul...
Ey up... good to hear from you...
Yes.. at least 30 per cent of people turn off in the 1st minute...
I'm glad that you are still enjoying my videos...
Living in Yorkshire gives you an ideal opportunity to visit the show...
My brother lived in Harrogate for a while so I have been there often.. before moving to Cornwall...
Mark lives just up the coast from me... so that was a long drive for him to get to Harrogate...
I have never met Mark so I'm guessing that you are kidding me about him mentioning me...
Thank you.. you are very kind...
Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
@@AndysCornishCreations I look forward to your videos Andy. No I wasn't joking, when I spoke with mark and he said he was from Cornwall I mentioned you and he said you lived nearby and he spoke very highly of you!

I get similar yellow look when I use boiled linseed oil. The trick with tannin and steel wool solution to create an ebonizing effect on oak is handy to know. Beautiful. I've made beeswax and mineral oil finish for most of my products. It's durable and the water beads up on top of it.
Hi Danielle...
Ahhh.. I will have to try the linseed oil tip...
I was surprised just how black the Oak went...
I have made my own abrasive paste with beeswax, mineral oil and diatomaceous earth...
But I haven't tried making my own wax finish... time to give it a go... thank you...
Take care my friend...All the best.....Andy
@@AndysCornishCreations another tip is 2 coats of tung oil with 2 more coats of this mix: 1/2 cup tung oil to a tablespoon of spar varnish mixed together. That will give depth and nice honey color plus the protection of the varnish for outdoor projects. Cheers. Hope its helpful.
Brilliant. I am a beekeeper so will have to have a go at one

It's a wonderful bee! And I'm happy to see that you've allowed the dandelions to grow and feed him. Much to other's chagrin I let the dandelions mature for what few bees come to visit my garden. I planted a hyssop this year that was a popular gathering place and attracted more bees. I'm definitely planting more of them next spring. I enjoyed watching your bee take shape and found the ebonizing process to be quite amazing! Thank you for sharing this fun project! Take care 🙏🏻💕
Hi Gwynn...
Thank you very much... I'm glad that you enjoyed watching my B Movie... Haha.. get it... yes the ebonising worked much better than I expected...
I wish that I could claim that I allowed the dandelions to grow for the Bees but the truth is that I don't weed as often as I should...
I had to look up Hyssop plants... they look like beautiful plants.. I will look out for a few and join you in planting them for the Bees...

Really nice! Would you mind sharing the recipe that concoction you used to darken the oak?
Hi Roger...
Thank you...
My pleasure...
I used 2 jam jars... the 1st I put a tea bag in with boiling water half full ...
The 2nd .... I half filled with white vinegar and wire wool...keep the wire wool under the surface...
Leave both jars sealed overnight...
I applied the tea mixture 1st then the vinegar... I'm not sure if it has to be this way round...but it worked..
Have fun...

That's a super result Andy and such a entertaining vid. I'd quite happily watch your vids for over an hour, no kiddin'. The ebonizing stuff really is remarkable - is it mostly on oak or will it darken any light woods?
Hi Mark...
Thank you so much...that is very kind of you to say that... most people have the attention span of a... bee..
If I had made the video longer I could have fitted some music in.. perhaps the flight of the Bumble Bee...
The ebonising solution worked much better than I expected...
It works really well on Oak and I have seen it used on Walnut with great results...
I'm not sure about lighter woods... worth an experiment perhaps...

What??? No curry paste for the yellow stripes!!! That is outrageous, Andy… After all those teabags and vinegar and stuff for the black parts 😉 Mighty impressive specimen of a bumble bee… I would put it in front of our bees houses as a sort of scarecrow for the wasps… or should I say as a scarewasp? Beautiful design, Andy, your bumble bee 🐝 looks terrific, great colouring and shape and dimensions, love it 👍🏻☺️ I have had one thought when I watched you work on the wings… I think I would have tried to make them out of clear resin and drill or carve the pattern… same for the eyes, I think something slightly bigger out of resin would also look great… Sorry, I know, nag nag nag 🙄 Just a thought 💭 Having said that, maybe I can make it up by assuring you that I would have watched your 1 hour 40 minutes video without even blinking 👍🏻😊 BBB beautiful bumble bee, Andy, it must have been quite the project!
