We had a machinist at work who spent his yrly tool allotment on calipers.
Great video, Mike!
SAFE TURNING,

Thank you so much. Well done.
Nice info Mike. You can zero a dial caliper too... Loosen the bezel thumbscrew, rotate the dial to zero. Happy turning!
Good to know, thanks. Now that you mention it, I think I knew that and forgot since I don't really use the dial calipers any more since I got the digital.
Mike, thanks for the mention. This was an excellent review. Good idea on rounding the tips on calipers. Also the pointer about pulling calipers off spindles rather than pushing.
Thanks again, Glen.
Nice explanation Mike, used and abused them all!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊😊
Good info, Mike. For spindle work, I went to a caliper by Peter Galbert, the chairmaker. It is spring-loaded with a built-in scale. It is a little pricey ($69), but when I'm making a production run of Christmas ornaments, etc. it is indispensable!
Thanks, Gerald. I have seen pictures but never tried one. I will check it out.
Thanks for sharing, great explanation
Thanks for watching, Mitchell.
Great video and great demonstration!
Thanks, Biily.
Thank you for this! I've been wood turning for a few years, but haven't (yet) ventured into bowl/vase making. I learned a lot in this 13 minute video.
Thanks. Time for you to move out of your comfort zone?
@@MikePeaceWoodturning absolutely! That's this week's plan. :)
Great information Mike. Thanks.
Thanks.
Good video, Mike!
Thanks, Rick.
Thanx for the reminder. Been a while.
Cool!
Thnks for the informative video. It would be great if you could make a video on how to make those home made calipers!
Thanks for the idea!
Pulling the calipers backwards off the spindle, what a great tip. I tried it today and it worked rally well, That's the best tip I've got in a long time. Thanks for posting all your vidieo Mike...
Thanks, Richard.
Mike great video but you were going to comment on how to grind the tips of calipers to reduce grabbing. Did I miss it somehow?
No, I guess I did not feel it was needed to explain in detail how to round over the ends.
Have you heard of the Golden Section Gage that is supposed to partition an object into a ration of 1.64? Eddie Castilin mentioned one in his video but didn't show how to use it.
I have made a couple. Do you think it is worth a video?
Seems like it's nature's way to divide objects or architecture. I'd be interested. I ordered one on eBay without knowing what it might do for my wood turnings. I'm hoping it will help me make wooden eggs.
👍👍
I have a beautiful turning tree from bridge city was my dad's good video as always
I bet that is a treasure.
