A compact, lively, fun-loving hunting dog, the Brittany (also known as the American Brittany and the Brittany spaniel) sports a beautifully patterned coat, long legs, and energy for days.
This enthusiasm, along with their big brains, joyful disposition, and a willingness to please, makes training a treat for dog and human alike.
Brittanys thrive when given a job to do, whether that's working as a bird dog or turning heads in dog sports.
Bred as gundogs, they're often used as hunting companions.
But with their manageable size, low-maintenance grooming needs, and friendly personalities, the Brittany can be the perfect family pet-just so long as that family is sufficiently outdoorsy and has enough pep to keep up with their pup.

Brittany’s are simply the best!! I’ve had many different breeds but none as amazing as this. Wicked smart, tough as nails, loving, and goofy as hell! They will play for hours then cuddle if they aren’t doing something that is just pure silliness. Great dogs!

i bought a cockapoo (after my first cockapoos) and was disapointed to find out it had Brittney in it, making it a Brittney-poo. these dogs are 100x more fun than my old dogs (rip) they are smart, and like you said, they will play for as long as you like then go into a deep sleep if you want to. they are the perfect dog, my first dogs i loved, but were so dumb compared to these. i know poodles are smart too, but these dogs have a lot of brittney in them, from the olive eyes to the blue eyes of my one dog. brittneys are the best!!

One problem with this presentation? It makes them sound a bit hyper like some terriers, like Jack Russells. Birdie was my late husband’s rescues. She loved everyone, and was considered the Queen of the Neighborhood and of the Dog Park. Were the park dogs were deemed too rough by her, she would sit atop the picnic table with the humans. One couple had a golden doodle, Ruggles. The family said that it was Birdie who taught Ruggles how to be a dog!
We had three cats, which Birdie either ignored or endured. One problem. Luki a buff tabby fell madly in love with Birdie, even putting himself in charge of her grooming!
Like Queen Victoria, Birdie was “not amused.” One morning at 3:00 am, Birdie woke me up with quiet whimpering. In the dark, I asked her if she wanted to go out. I put the light on and saw the progress. She had been lying on her back, sound asleep. She looked at me upside down. At the foot of the bed there sat Luki, holding her R rear foot between his paws. He had decided that he must clean the hair between her pads!
Birdie is in Heaven, and I miss her every day. Even now, if I discuss Birdie with my tabby Luki, he gets upset. He looks so sad , and adverts his eyes and looks away. They mourn, they grieve. Love never goes away.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of Birdie.

I lost Jake , who was a rescue nov 4 2 years ago. still can't get over it. I was supposed to get a new Britt last week but due to unusual curcumstances couldn't pick her up and I'm devastated thank you for this video it made me smile.

Please check out Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue. Every fall in NC they start shooting the birds. Birdie was gun shy, so the “ sporting” fiends just dumped them out on a highway. I suspect that she may have been dumped in a thunderstorm. She was petrified of thunder. I used to hate summer because here in FL we have thunderstorms daily. The rescue named her Birdie, because she was a bird dog, after all.

I have recently adopted a two or three year old female britony who was abandoned having been shot in her left shoulder by her owner in Bosnia. She has settled very well and her wound treated through the charity which rescued her. The shoulder is fused so she can't run as much as she would have but is getting more active all the time and is never in pain.
Does anyone have any tips about how to help her have a good life? Many thanks

Brits won’t sprint out of sight. They they are bred to range at birdshot range (50 yards) they will run in a clover leaf pattern around you with the leaves of the clover extending about 30 yards. I actually try to get my brit to range further. They are also great in their kennel. They are fine to be crated in 4 hour intervals (except sleep obviously).

Brittanies are not spaniels. The spaniel was dropped from the name in the 80s, i believe. They are HPRs (hunt point retrieve) and have a very different hunting style from a spaniel. They can tend to get stuck on point from time to time and are difficult to stop once in drive. Lovely dogs, though🙂
