- An Award winning film from Griffon Media about Paul Pritchard's recumbent trike 'pilgrimage' to Mount Everest. Accompanied by Carol Hurst the ride took them on 1150km across the Himalaya from Lhasa to Kathmandu via Everest Base Camp.
I just got my recumbent bike. And one thing I’m learning is that this thing made of metal, plastic and wire affords freedoms to some and empowers them to do things they thought they would never do. I respect a machine that does that, even though it has no soul,or,life to it, I like to think that it does; and in doing so I consider it my comrade in wherever life takes me. I will continue to use my recumbent trike and give it the care it deserves. It amazes me that this man’s bike took him to the edge of Everest. Amazing!
Great words Jeep Rubicon!
From Denmark: Just stumbled over your wonderful video. I am 80 years old and travel by trike 5 months of the year (ICE SPRINT FS + ZIFLEX Trailer). Respect and admiration for what you are able to do after your unfortunate accident. Wish you all the best.🙏🙏🙏
Inspiring...thank you for your adventurous courage and for not losing it and also for sharing it...

Hermoso trayecto. Gracias por compartir tu video
Gracias Luis...
Thank u for such a great journey in your life. I am recovering from a compound fractures n crushed vertebrae fell 5ft from my bed onto cement/tile. I also have a fusion with hardware n artificial disc above that in my lumbar. An too was veryyy much like yourself.
As I went through training n ole paradog n yrs down in south America with DEA in the early years. That's where things really went south. I made it somehow thru it with injuries n a TBI. Tieing my shoes at 25 was a absolute thrill when I did. So many things most people never know the how moment in life. I've been shot x 2, stabbed, viper bite, Cayman bite low calf n my greatest dropped into the triple canopy of the jungle n lost 3 of my veryyy best friends all in a flash it seemed. So you are not alone my friend,,, I hope u put many miles on that trike of yours n look to hear about that as well. I am going get a Scorpion fs26 electric hub next spring. Well, if I am still alive n kicking. I have 6 heart stents so every day is generous n a great blessing from God. Take care my friend, Ty Clark northern Michigan
Hi Ty, Sorry I missed this. Hope you got that Scorpion and all is well with your health...
Very inspiring. As a disabled ex Army I know exactly how you are facing life and it's struggles. Have you thought about writing a book? You have such an amazing story of strong human spirit and personal fight back. I may be wrong but I get the feeling your story would inspire others who face life limitations?
Hi Andrew, It's a tough life for everyone when all's said and done! I have written 3 books with another on the way. Check out my website www.paulpritchard.com.au if you are feeling in need of a little inspiration porn :))) Thx for the up and keep on with the struggle...
It is inspiration like this that makes me go out and do 200km bike rides and 4 Les Mills group fitness classes in one day. I could never play football when I was young. I would lose every running race I was in and so on. This is why I live for Achievement Challengers.
veramente emozionante...........lezione di vita per il genere umano. continua cosi bravo.
Thank you so much for letting us see what you can achieve and for sharing your experiences with us. That’s a massive gash you took to your head. So glad you made it friend. Chris. Perth Western Australia.

Nice video that makes my heart beat!
Thx sc b!
What an amazing journey you have had… as I came out of church today I ran across your trek… makes me humble at the small issues I have had over the years as a Soldier. Your an inspiration.. thank you for the that, gives me motivation…
I absolutely love this film. MASSIVE well done to the both of you. Such an inspirational film.
Even at the age of 77, The strength of the human spirit never ceases to amaze and inspire me. Good on you guys. Ian, Scotland
Great trip, great video, thank you. And hi Ian, Scotland. I am also 77 and dropped cars 2 years ago and my ICE recumbent trike is my only transportation. I had a stroke about a year and a half ago, and the VA helped me get this lovely trike. The VA helped with the basic trike like these heroes are riding. I paid extra for electric assist and full suspension, and 25% off for demo model helped a lot. I've ridden a little without the electric assist. This was an amazing adventure.
Cool to see how you overcame a incredibly difficult situation then triked to one of the highest places on earth. Takes guts. Your kids have a cool dad!
Thank Bob. Only just saw your comment!
Hello paul, your story of your life was and is very moving it made me cry smile and laugh and the journey was amazing and beautiful also awesome, its inspired me to do the same journey one day, i have autism and not very comfortable talking to people and being around lots of people but your willpower has given me a new insight into life literally.
I shall be doing on my trike once i can afford one.
Thankyou for sharing your story.

I remember this film. Thinking of saving for a recumbent myself. Nice story!
Black Warrior Lures I too felt that recumbent we’re out of my reach. But I saved for it, sold and flipped items for it until I was able to,purchase one. It’s Not the best or greatest, but it works for me. I ended up selling, fixing and flipping bikes until,I made enough money to,purchase a used one.
@@jeeprubicon6650 Sweet!
Words fail. A true inspiration. A bit teary, I couldn’t stop watching. Thank you.
Thank's Chris. I just came back from riding a recumbent tandem trike with a blind friend, from the lowest to highest points in Australia. That was an altogether longer, more difficult challenge! You can can check it out at www.lowest2highest.com.au if you wish and look out for the movie!
Thanks Paul! :) Being Aussie, I'll be certain to check it out! Although we don't have any Himalayan type "hills" here, I drive that road to the snowfields every so often and I reckon it'd be a very difficult trike ride up to Kosciuszko - and all the way from Lake Eyre!!!! You're quite amazing. I've recently bought a trike (ICE Adventure FS) and the thought of a trip like this has me all emotional again. LOL :) Well done mate - can't wait to hear of your exploits.
My body works just fine but I can't do that.
Nothing but respect n love for those guys.
Thank you Bertie...
Total props to you mon ami. Not many in great shape would or could do what you are doing. Inspired I am.
Be safe and ride on Sir.
What an inspirational story. When you reached your destination and told of your great happiness, I felt your joy. Thank you.
Thankyou Paul, you have inspired me!
No no no, Thank you!
Only just caught up with this after reading 20th anniversary edition of totem pole. Met Paul through Llanberis friendships and family years ago. This remains a great inspirational film. Its impossible to comprehend the sheer determination of Paul. He's and absolute gem of a guy and an irrepressible force of nature.
Only just saw this Paul. Thank's for the up! And happy new year :)

Holy crap man! You SIR are a inspiration! Serious respect to you and your will to press on.
Amazing journey! Incredible athleticism! Inspiring
Thanks,great inspiration. Great example.
Wow - I am getting back into cycling for knee recovery and I am truly inspired by this. I am 54 years of age and have picked up many relatively minor injuries over the years. As I battle back to health and fitness I will watch your videos for inspiration - thank you Paul and Carol.
Thx. Yes trikes are really good for aiding recovery from injury, and for any disability that affects balance.
Hi Donny, It's seems like it gets harder anyway once you pass 50, never mind compounding injuries on top! Good luck with the cycling. PP.
I believe a life's worth is determined by what one does with what he has & the cards he's dealt with along the way
&...
that Mr. Paul Pritchard can certainly attest to that.
Massive respect to all involved. Brilliant and inspirational. Thanks
And then I weep....I traveld over 30 000km on a bicycle....and for 20min the only thing that went through my mind was.....Thank you !!!!
A large part of the journey called life is learning to overcome the obstacles placed in our path... adapt and overcome. Well done sir.
Cheers olonspeed!
Paul, you're amazing to watch. Yes, inspiring is a good word. I'd love to try something like this some day. Mine would be an easier ride tho. I'm sure I couldn't do as good as you. I am getting a recumbent trike tho. I'm holding my breath.
Hi Patty, Yes get a trike. You're life will never be the same! :)
I am so humbled by you. I want to do what you did. Thank you
Thanks Bob. I'm sure you can do it. Just go slowly! You may also like Lowest To Highest on Vimeo :)
Thank you Paul and your wonderful support friend for sharing your amazing journey. I will think of you whenever things get hard.
Thank's Jennifer! Yes Carol Hurst is an amazing woman!
Absolute inspiration.
This is a beautiful and inspiring film. If you ever come to Texas, please notify some of us in the recumbent community here in Dallas, Houston, and Austin. I'm sure there are many here who would love to hear you speak. We're geographic cousins after all. Our West Texas looks a whole lot like Central Australia!
I will bear that in mind Steven H! Also it just so happens that I will be riding through central Aus in September. The www.lowest2highest.com.au will take our HPVs from Lake Eyre to Mount Kosciuszko, a distance of 2100kms across deserts and mountains. Even tougher than Tibet I am expecting. We have a crowd funder to make the film - pozible.com/project/lowest-to-highest. Cheers PP
Very inspirational :-) I am a wheelchair-user , and use a handbike. I am hoping to upgrade to a recumbent trike soon :-)
Thank you Morten! You may be interested in the Lowest to Highest Australia expedition (www.lowest2highest.com.au) that I am leaving on in 3 weeks. Myself and 4 other disabled people are going to cycle for over 2000kms through the Australian outback from the geographic low point (Kati Thanda at -15m) to the peak of Australia (Targangil at +2228m) :)
That sounds like a real challenge and an interesting journey to follow :-) Best of luck and godspeed :-)
What an awesome documentary! So inspiring and exceptionally well done!

I really like some words from the bible Race 4him but please don't feel sorry for me. That accident was the best thing that ever happened to me...
Incredible journey mate, and a great story! well done to you both.
I've suffered with club feet since birth and now have fused ankles. In the summer I cycled from Nottinghamshire down to London via the east coast in the summer, it was hands down the best thing I've done, a great sense of achievement.
Keep riding mate
Hi Sam, Yes cycling is the way to go eh? Gives you a great sense of freedom - especially if you have problems walking like me. Do you ride a trike? Anyway, thank's a bunch and best of luck...
Paul Pritchard It certainly is the way to go. No I ride a touring bike, but I think in the future a trike is the way to go, how much do they set you back?
Certainly does! Love the sense of freedom, cant beat it. I ride a touring bike but will probably need something more like a trike in the future!
Next ride - Midlands to North Wales in January!
Cheers and best of luck too
good on ya mate, your an inspiration to all of us

Thank you Clive, you just gotta keep doing stuff hey. Perhaps look at Lowest To Highest on Vimeo about cycling up Mt Kosciusko in Australia. And Rite Of Passage (CZcams) a journey to the Himalaya with my son.
Your films looks greats on your amazing journey . Wow man .
I’m 67 and I had a compressed spinal cord and a few years ago had two surgeries (combined about eighteen hours total) to fuse five vertebrae, and two laminectomies-to decompress the cord. The neurosurgeon described my spinal cord as having been “squished”. I’m fortunate to still be able to walk. I have lost a significant amount of sensation in both legs and feet, but I can still walk-slow and with a cane. After a lot of PT, I was able to stand and balance and walk. But I rapidly lost lower body strength. walking wasn’t much of an option since at the speed of 1-2 miles an hour, I couldn’t get my heart rate up.
Stationary bikes are very boring. So I got an eBike and am rebuilding my lower body. The sensation may never return, but I need to stay strong. I am looking at recumbent eTrikes now, after a couple of falls on the two-wheeler. I need to keep moving and exercising and I enjoy cycling, so it seems like a logical thing to do. So I have the eBike for when I feel capable and the way is smooth, and I’ll soon have a trike for more rough surfaces where I absolutely do not want to fall on loose gravel, small rocks or what-have-you. This is the kind of adventure I only dream about at this point in my life. But there are many more achievable adventures I hope to accomplish.
I just came across this video. It was very inspirational to watch and made me realize what unmotivated and lazy nimwit I can be. I have a lot of respect for what you have accomplished and hope you can continue. I have a trike also and have enjoyed riding it way more then I ever did a road bike. Although, I miss the speed of the road bike. I still wouldn't trade it for anything. I've talked about trying a few small trike tours but never seem to be motivated enough to get in the physical condition I would need to do it. Perhaps this inspirational video will kick my butt in gear. Thanks for sharing. And, I just have to say that the trike has got to be one of the best physical therapies for your body and has to be helping your bad leg to some degree. I would think that it would help strengthen it even if you are not using it much. If anything, it should continue to help your physical coordination.
Sorry, I only just saw this. Yes my trike help me stay in shape and is wonderful therapy for my leg. I hope you did that small trike tour! Thx Michelle.
may god be with you guys liked the journey
I would say you are a badder ass adventurer now! I am impressed and I'll get inspired by this. My knee was destroyed playing hockey and I had to quit and live with constant pain but that was okay, but it created a hole in my life that I could not cope with well. Still struggling to come back to a normal adventure, trekking life but it's hard.
Hi Bosis, sorry you got injured. My injury has turned out to be the best thing that has ever happened in my life. It has taught me how to accept, and over the decades as a disabled person it has taught me that hardship IS life and you can transcend through pain. Good luck with it all. PP. Amazing story
Awesome accomplishment.
Wow amazing story your lucky to be alive. I want a bike like that to soon maybe I can build or buy one
how the hell does this have even 4 dislikes??? how can you not be inspired!!!!
Because it appears there are persons out there with a congenital deformity which seems to make them incapable of joy, hope, or inspiration. They deserve our pity for the singularity of hope that they call their 'lives'. They deserve our scorn for the enjoyment they take in attempting to bring others to join them in their miserable existence.
Old Wolf perhaps we should have a cup of tea together...
A good Earl Grey has never gone amiss on that end! On a more personal note, you inspired me to get my own trike. After a fairly severe interaction with an auto, I found myself with difficulty riding my bicycle. (Was travelling 40kph, in the US, and someone passed me on the left to do a hard right turn at 55kph, carried me around the curve, and gave me a lovely gift of a concussion, and severe tendon/ligament strains.) Had I not been wearing motorcycle gear to pick up a motorcycle, I fear I'd not be about.
The trike has been a bit of a new grant on life, I'm out doing things and seeing things again, so my thanks! Whilst not measuring up to your Odyssean trek, I'm planning a few hundred miles of trips this summer through the mountains here in Idaho, and possibly through bits of Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming. I'll have a cup of tea in your honour. Or more likely several.
@@paulpritchard9127 If possible drinking tea,Iwould be very happy.

I always seem to come back to watch this video... So admireable and inspirational. My mishappen was far far from as dramatic and scary as yours, I had a brain stroke and heart issues, but watching this video brings hope to my life. Utmost respect and greetings from Lofoten, Norway.
Hi Jonas, Iv'e always wanted to climb in Lofoten...
Beautiful and inspirational.

Paul: this is a lovely film. I was thinking about you - I have just re-read Deep Play, which is (still!) one of my top 3 climbing books of all time. I must have read it 10 times over the years.
