- Dodging snowflakes and frigid temperatures Paul on his 2011 Catrike Expedition & I on my 2011 ActionBent T1 recumbent trikes decided to 'do the loop' at Cades Cove (Tennessee) in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Not sure what our average speed was, but I believe we were being passed by joggers! Enjoy the ride.
This was actually the 1st trial run with the newly-designed windshield. Note at 3:00 the bandana is not blowing at 10mph! Also, on several occasions I point out that what you see in the video is what I see while riding, well, not exactly true because the front of the camera in almost a foot in front of my eyes and the captured image does not take into account my peripheral vision.
At 11:20 Paul says. "Where'd Ed Go?", and without any front lighting illuminated, the florescent yellow/green canopy pops into view. Throughout the years others have commented on the long distance high-vis recognition and in this case I wasn't wearing any clothing that would have helped.
Really enjoyed your video guys....excellent job! You have really inspired me to pull the trigger and get my own recumbent.....keep up the good work!!!
+Dwight Smith Thanks Dwight for the kind words and for letting me know that in some small way I've helped. Have a great ride.
Great ride guys. I just bought a ActionBent trike today and did a small ride around the neighborhood. I do believe I'm hooked. Thanks for sharing this ride. Inspiring.
Glad we could help and best wishes with your trike. ActionBent/Performer trikes are arguably ,........, a 'best-buy for the money' brand. Thanks for watching. Let's ride!
1 of the very best --no the best videos ive watched. loved the shots front and back of same locations you guys are great.I am waiting del of my new cat villager .im a loner not really but no one in the area to ride with and no riding buddies like you guys are wonderful.cheers and thank you so much
Matthew, thanks. As for Paul & I, we're just glad to have you along!
How do i see more of your videos? Tha nks matt
Great vid, keep'em coming. My advice against the cold: dont't let joggers pass you. Crank it! That'll fire up the built-in central heating and you'll be comfortable. I like Ed's windshield! Good idea, but you may need to install a wiper. Thumbs up!
A tip : you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Rocky Junior Yup, I've been using Flixzone} for years myself :D
@Rocky Junior yup, I've been watching on flixzone} for years myself :D
thanks for the ride, guys. I've biked many times on the loop, but left Tennessee in 1998 for treeless, brown Nebraska! I was interested in those trikes, now being past the age of bicycles. This was a wonderful half hour. Thank you.
Elaine, so nice to have ya join us on the ride. Some of my vids are short, some are long. I look at it this way, I'd rather bore those in a hurry than 'drop' (starve for more) those who take the time to enjoy them. Besides, it's easy to stop the video and move on, but it's darn hard to add more time if you enjoying the time spent. I just want it to be a 'complete' experience of a given tour! Again............., thanks!
Another great video! Surprised I hadn't seen this one before. Brisk, a balmy 32 degrees! Good seeing some of the up hills in Cades Cove, especially for one who is planning a trip out there and wondering if they have the uumph to get around the cove.
Enjoy your exploits and pandemonium very much. Keep it coming and more power to you both. Stuart from Canada.
Try Shiloh National Military Park if in the western part of the state. Its our Cades Cove over here. Been riding my homebuilt recumbent trike this year and a bicycle there for several years. Rode Cades Cove once on the bicycle. Great video, thanks. We have ALOT less vehicular traffic at Shiloh but they never close for bikes/peds only like Cades Cove in the warm months.
....thanx 4 your response, ED, ride safe! : )
why does some says that trikes are for old person
Great video, please provide the link for purchasing the newly-designed windshield..
The windshield and other 'optional' components are only available to those who have purchased the canopy. For canopy pricing please send an email to logbuilder@mindspring.com.
Love your videos, watch them over and over. I got a Rover 8 in Sept. 2012 and a Terra Trike Cruiser last Sept. Ed did you make your own fairing and if you did, how did you?
Good morning, Linda. I will occasionally post how-to's on RECUMBENT TRIKES GROUP Facebook site (ask to join). It's a better place to exchange recumbent trike experiences; Paul (in this video) started the group. However, since the windshield is rather new, I haven't really made a DIY video.
How in the world did you manage to get them to let you post a 33 minute vid? Most I could get them to let me do was 18 min. That looked like a awesome riding day .And I got a friend that lives in ridgely didn't know there were bears in Tn till he watched one of you older vids he was shocked .But excellent video Ed. Love that windshield im looking forward to more of your vids good job.
Not sure how the length thingy works, but it may have something to do with (1) a long history of quality work, (2) following the guidelines with proprietary content (copyrights, music licensing, etc) or (3) having put up a certain number of qualified (no issues) videos.
Thanks for your comments; means alot!
Great Video Ed. Loved how you put it together. did you make the bends in your windshield yourself or did you have someone at the plastics place do it?
Thanks, 'Dreg'. The editing was done manually, and even the cameras were recording at different capture settings so the video was edited using the lower of the two which caused some degradation of the other but it's kinda fitting to the caliber of guys Paul & I are. Also had to be rather picky with the audio on Paul's since it needs a feather 'mic-muff' redo! Hence, music on the downhills! LOL
I 100% fabricated the windshield (sheet-goods to trike), my 3rd although the other 2 each went through design mods using a commercially available heat-strip bender. I'd say I'm 90% pleased with the windshield, which would probably equate to perfect for most!
FYI: In all likelihood, I'll be making all the components available for a DIY canopy.
I've had this one on Paul's trike and the change in looks alone is dramatic, There are a couple of tiny bugs to be dealt with before issue however
Your comments are highly respected and welcomed. Thanks
Great... Yeah the windshield looks great! nice work!
....good mornin', ED!....I been enjoy'n your video's....I'm git'n a Catrike Expedition and I want 2 put a canopy on it kinda like your's, could U tell me where U got it and any comments on how well U like it, have a great day, thanx, ride safe, Jimmy : )
I made the canopy and will be offering components so others can make their own a well as be able to purchase a complete package. Not there yet, some issues need to be resolved before hand. Thanks for asking (I do have some preliminary DIY canopy videos in my CZcams selections) and wishing the best of times with your Catrike.
